Well, I was and still am mega terrified of needles!! When I was going to have my first baby, I was induced and the pain was indeed out of this world. I called on all the gods and God almighty and everyone to help me... Lol. But I could not do epidural o! I could not stay still for long enough at all. Anyway, baby came out and the doctors had to take me to the theatre to get 'done up' and I had to get a spinal which is similar to an epidural. Luckily, the doctors understood my phobia and treated me like an egg, calling all hands to hold me tight while they applied the spinal... Couldn't feel nothing from my tummy to my toes! Really weird sha.

For my second baby, the fear of needles was still there o! Fear did not even let me suggest pethidine injection talk more of epidural. Luckily no 'doing-up' either, so I was free to go.

I would say think about all your options for child birth. You never know how you will handle 'that' pain..

Had one for my first. Didn't feel a thing not even when my sons mighty head came out. Decided to go all natural for the second one. Omo see pain that I never new existed. Was proud of myself...Difference between the 2 after the birth? Pain was worse after the first one, codine and co didn't help much! If it ever happens that I am to give birth again I will use epidural cause I have had a natural birth therefore, nothing left to prove to myself kiss

If you've been to the labour ward and hear the screaming of to be mothers one will not waste time in giving consent to Epidural. Labour Pain is painful. I feel for all women. smiley

My dear sister, have been researching it so much, definately an option. In my line of work I have seen too many cases of maternal mortality, post partum depression resulting from pro longed labour etc, if science has made it easier am definately willing to explore.
Can this method be effectively deployed in Nigeria?

As someone who has had children with and without epidural I advocate for epidural
You won't even know you are having contractions
I was watching TV and clicking on channels alternating between TD jakes and the Tsunami ,sucking on Popsicles and gisting with my Oga the whole time
Ladies abeg take the epidural if available
All that screaming and pulling your hair and cursing the blokoss that impregnated you is not worth it grin
During my sister's labor with epidural,I had the laptop on youtube playing flavor nabania and she was singing and wiggling to the beats

I will AGAIN...AND.....AGAIN

My experience....I blame my self for not taken it on time,i was scared because of what my sister in-law told me but when the labour was taking too much time and the pain(MEEEEEEEEEEEEN) and all other pain pacifier fail to reduce the pain,i didn't know when i beg the midwife to call the Anaesthetist for the epidural.

I was given three times, the first one failed, the second one worked only on my left side and they top up the third one and it worked, the type of feeling i had when the whole thing work was something else.( I even doze off because i wasn't feeling anything at all and my hubby was scared and will always wake me up. grin)

When the baby comes, first thing i told my hubby was that the remaining two will be epidural straight..lol

My fellow women,if you have the opportunity to use it...PLEASE do..Eji afufu anya isi?Who like to dey suffer kwanu..

Most women do not want it until that time...

And when they do need it, they don't second I guess.

No. My sweetheart did a research on its use during her pregnancy, while it ensures there are no labour pains, it takes away the flair of childbirth. Besides its administration is said to be a specialist area and could go severely wrong. She told me, I can't really say I know.

What is the flair of childbirth?

Pain? undecided

There is a window of time for the epidural so you must indicate on time
If labor has progressed much, you won't get it
Let the doctor know from day one ,let them mark it clearly on your chart/ record
And make sure it is being done by a licensed anesthesiologist especially for those in Nigeria
Please don't let a quack stick needles in your back, you may get paralyzed for life

My advice for those in Nigeria please ask other women who have used it successfully for referrals, don't go to anyone just because they say they can do it or offer an affordable rate.
