Former Minister of Petroleum
Resources, Prof. Tam David-West,
at the weekend in Ibadan, said
former head of state and
presidential aspirant on the
platform of All Progressives
Congress, APC, Major General
Muhammadu Buhari, has never
lost in any election in the country.
He said this at his residence at
the University of Ibadan, when he
played host to members of the
Grassroots Mobilisation for
Muhammadu Buhari, GMMB, one
of the groups championing the
election of Buhari as the president
of the country.
He said what many Nigerians are
ignorant of is that Buhari was
‘serially rigged out’ of the
elections when he contested in
2003, 2007 and 2011.
He cited the 2007 general
elections where the late President
Umaru Yar’Adua admitted that
the election that brought him to
office was not free and fair, with a
warning that election riggers
should be mindful of the danger,
should they want to repeat what
happened in the 2015 election.
While throwing his weight behind
the candidature of Buhari, David-
West described the retired general
as the best candidate to lead the
country.
According to him, the retired
general was the ‘finest man’ to
rescue the country from the
shackles of acute corruption,
which he described as the bane of
development in the country.
The former minister, who also
condemned the withdrawal of the
security personnel attached to the
Speaker of House of
Representatives, Hon. Aminu
Tambuwal, said the act showed
the ignorance of President
Goodluck Jonathan about what
the law says.
He maintained that the country,
given its present challenges,
needs a patriotic personality like
Buhari to salvage it.
David-West, who said he had
worked with many heads of state
and presidents, said: “Buhari is
the only one I can vow for to lead
us now.”
He said the unprecedented level of
corruption in the country needs a
patriotic Nigerian like Buhari to
put a stop to, saying “Nigeria is
the only country that makes
budget for corruption.”
The university don assured that
the first 100 days of Buhari in
office as president would witness
reduction in the price of petroleum
products across the country,
stating that “within 100 days of
General Buhari as President,
petroleum prices will go down.”
The national coordinator of the
group, Mr. Remi Oyebamiji, who
said the group was in the state to
intimate the residents on what
Buhari stands for, stated that the
group intends to organise a
symposium aimed at creating
more awareness on the
importance of Buhari’s
candidature.
He also described David-West as
a patriotic Nigerian who lived
above sentiments.
Oyebamiji, while dispelling some
notions about the personality of
Buhari, said it is unfortunate that
many Nigerians are not aware of
the unique attributes that placed
him above other candidates,
including President Jonathan,
whose administration he
described as the worst.
He said: “The ruling government
has been lying; their
transformation agenda has been
reduced to a slogan. Nigerians are
crying, they are praying for
Joshua, they are praying for
Moses that will lead them to the
promise land, and that Joshua
and that Moses is General
Muhammadu Buhari.
“He is tested, he is trusted; he
has seen it all. He cannot be a
learner. Nothing can change his
personality. He is not coming for
vengeance; he is not coming to
witch hunt anybody.
“All I know is that he is going to
put a stop to impunity and
corruption. He will get Nigeria out
