In the most advanced democracies, Business men bankroll election campaigns because aspirants usually do not have the money to singlehandedly fund their own campaigns . These business men do it to push their own agenda. Either they hope to get contracts or they hope to influence policies that will promote their businesses. When a person gives you a gift ,you owe him a favour and when the time comes, he will come asking for it. It is not ideal ,but such is life. People don't go donating millions of dollars to a cause without the guaranty that their interest would be met. And the interest of a big business man is more big business.
All of these negotiations happen behind the scenes. Here, our politicians do these things in the open and it is not an indictment on them but on us the electorate. Politicians are only sensitive to what the people are sensitive to. Election bank rollers will only put money on candidates that will fly with the people. Your part is to express your pleasure or displeasure. That's all the power you have, and it is no small power.

Atleast the Americans have simplified their process by dividing it into Democrats vs. Republicans. Which basically is a function of ideology. Here both parties share the same ideologies. The only difference is what side of the tribal pole does the party lean towards. And that is why I can't vote the APC nor APC. Sadly, the other non tribal parties are not serious contenders.

So come February, I am forced to vote PDP again.
