If op can still read my post; Note the following. Two front tires must be very good,ur life atached to it.2nd-ur radiator must be washed(service)and ur fan must be in good conditn. Check ur braking system, replacing ur engine oil is a must b4 embarking on long distance. Those things mentioned above are the major problems the usualy disturbs jorney. If this is ur 1st time long distance! Be very careful/brave. Don't drive above 100km/h. Observe trafic situation carefuly, avoid overtaking as this is ur 1st time. Whenever u see any of these comercial buses coming behind you, don't let them confuse you becos if u r frightening, they will push you enter bush,as they always believe they are road master.but give them way and be brave. Note: while on ur right lane;a mad driver can face you head on! Don't be confuse imidiately just take some secons decission. Safe jorney. Some experiencer we can't teach you! U must learn it naturally make sure u come back and share it here. God be with you. 5 Likes |

Hmmm.....first off highway driving and city driving are different....different for you and the car. You would be driving at much faster speeds....and the car would be much more stressed. First I suggest you check your spare. Do an oil change...filter change and if hoses and belts are not in very good condition change them. Coolant....have that checked ...radiator flushed if need to.....cooling system checked out. These are the ones that can act up and leave you stranded. |

I once drove my Honda Accord 1999 model for 9 straight hours. All he needs to do is check the engine oil, the brake, your radiator fluid, the wheel and how effective your power steering is. Meanwhile, let your mind be at work. Be fully concentrated while driving. Meanwhile, driving is my hobby |

My advice U re not ready yet. Driving on highway is more of d mind than driving a car. Drive 3 hours. Stop at a mech. Have d car checked again U ll be fine but don't ever be overconfident. Trailer drivers re not nice. V8 engines drivers ll oppress u Most importantly. Take 1km at a time Peace |

God bless you sir, A lot of times I see avoidable accidents in the streets of abuja and begin to wonder. One day a took a drop from wuse to kubwa, the guy was doing what he termed driving and I was complaining seriously, when we got to dutse opp the federal civil service training college,he overtook another car at a speed of more than 100km per hour and behold he enter into the connecting road leading to the commercial lane as we were on the major speed lane.its just God.it would have been a real disater.the innocent man he over took tried so hard to control his car, same with him.I told him that he was at fault. He said but he was indicating showing he was to enter,I was teeling him dat you can not trafficate and at same time enter a connecting road with such speed and u are overtaking at same time. It was hell that day. I think FRSC still have a lot of work to do other than checking of papers. Ikenna351: 1 Like |

Meet your mechanic and he will do the needful. Also I will advise you look for a friend that have enough experience so the two of you can travel together. The first time I drove from Lagos to Benin in 2009, I had just 3 months driving experience within Lagos. The state of your mind matters a lot. Once you can make the journey, you have conquered the fear. Safe journey brother. |

If you religiously maintain your car as you claimed.. I can assure you your car would drive better when back from that journey.. That engine would breath better, and would be willing to do more the next morning.. goodluck to you! 1 Like |

Maser: All these points you mentioned don't they also apply in driving intracity? |
Re: Advice On Long Distance Journey by TCD: 12:10pm On Mar 02, 2015 |
Lagusta: lol my brother same rules of careful and safe driving applies both ways. there is no special thing. it's bad driving habit to over speed , it's bad to over take at a bend , it's bad to speed down a bend or curved road , its wrong to drive bumper to bumber. whether city or highway what is wrong is wrong. one should be very alert and careful at all times whether driving in residential neighbourhood or formula one track. the same rules of safe driving applies. 1 Like |

Ikenna351:i will just quote u and say nothing else cos u don talk am finish. interstate/ intercity driving is another ball game altogether. anyone who does not realise it might be looking at a very short lifespan especially on naija roads. most importantly, pray hard before driving on the highway. witches from the village are looking for exactly such opportunity to flex dia muscles. I just lost an office colleague this morning due to accident on the owerri - PHC road. from what I gather, the accident was entirely no fault of his. 1 Like |

These are 2 different driving experience . But if you have been driving in the city for 7 years then ,with extra care and less speed until you will understand the difference you will . Be careful with Speed , be 100% sure before you overtaking . With your mind and experience ,and your car in good condition ,you are good to go . Pay attention to your BRAKE SYSTEM, ALL LIGHT(Especially head lamp, brake light, parking light) ,TYRES ,Jack,Fire Extinguisher,Wheel spanner,C - caution , Oil Guage , and your engine before you embark You know , if you have never driven at night does not mean you can't .It all begin one day. All in 1 , YOU CAN DO IT . |
