Apc’s Billboards, Posters Damaged, Removed As Jonathan Campaigners Hit Osogbo by Johnnyessence(m): 6:51am On Jan 14, 2015
Several billboards
belonging to the candidates
of the All Progressives
Congress and some bearing
photos and messages of
Governor Rauf Aregbesola
have been damaged and
removed in Osogbo, the Osun state capital as members of the Peoples
Democratic Party converge in the state today in continuation of the
campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Our correspondent who went round the town reports that from Abere
towards Olaiya, Okefia Roundabout and Freedom Park venue of the PDP
rally, many billboards were vandalized.
Reports have it that posters of the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen
Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, were
torn and removed along the Gbongan Osogbo Road, Alekunwodo area
and Olaiya while those of President Goodluck Jonathan were pasted on
them.
Apart from billboards bearing photos and projects of Aregbesola,
another candidate whose billboards have suffered same fate is Prof Sola
Adeyeye, who represents Osun Central district at the senate and is
seeking a second term.
His billboard at the Okefia Roundabouts were damaged while all APC
posters around the same vicinity were torn.
However, our correspondent gathered that the vandalisations took place
overnight before the arrival of security agents who have now taken
positions on all the routes leading to the venue.
Also, because of fear of possible looting and other forms of violence,
many of the businesses around the Freedom Park venue of the rally
have closed shops.
A trader in building materials at the popular MDS area, who introduced
himself as Alhaji Tajudeen Adelowokan, queried why the PDP rally
should be held right in the centre of the state capital saying the party
has the option of the Osogbo township stadium, Technical College
Osogbo, St. Charles School among others where businesses would not be
affected.
“This is an attempt to forcefully make traders be part of their campaign
but this is unfair. If I am a party member and I want to be part of the
campaign, I should have a good place to go not where traders make
their daily living.
“Why hold a rally in the middle of the market. Everybody knows this is
a market area.”
A member who had arrived the venue, who identified himself as
Samson Olawepo, said the purpose of holding the rally in the heart of
the city is not because of lack of crowd. “It is because we want people to
feel us. We don’t want people to trouble themselves by walking all the
way to the stadium. The rally has come to meet the people.” He said.
Our correspondent observed as at the time of filing this report that
many party faithful had started trooping into the Freedom Park venue.

Is this the kind of society you want to live in ? We're individuals can just go around and damage things irrespective of who owns it or not , for the fact that these people are coming to the state of Osun for a rally do you really think a mere bill board or poster can give them a change of mind ? It is a pity that Nigeria is not the problem but Nigerians the self , the change is not the world mate the change is you.

I saw those damages myself yesterday. I just thank God the Osun APC guys were matured enough to avoid violence. If a strong APC state like Osun could provide a conducive and violence free environment for the president and his party,(they were allowed to use the Oshogbo city stadium that was completed by Ogbeni during the governorship campaign last year, the freedom park built by Ogbeni for yestersay's rally and even the security patrol vehicles also bought by Ogbeni were used for patrol for the president's visit yesterday), the best the president's party could do to repay them was to tear off their billboards?!
