The elite Israeli-trained Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR) of Cameroon and have adopted the Isreali Tavor 21 and the Galil a AR/SAR variants all predominantly fitted with optic sights, considering that theses weapons have an effective range of 550metres + almost double that of the AK47 and far far greater accuracy they have clear advantage add to that they were trained in Isreal not as individuals but the whole BIR Battalion.

The outcome delivery has seen very few BIR combatants lost at the same time inflicting great losses on Boko. Furthermore Cameroon has a number of IFV with remote weapon stations giving them near 100% accuracy even at 2km distance with their 30mm cannons. Finally they have never abandoned their weapons for Boko or effectively conceded territory to them.

I'm sorry, but anytime i read your comment on nairaland, I always feel amused by them.

Please go and join the army. The Nation needs you to join the army. Don't be a coward.

I work in the Oil and Gas Industry..

I worked hard and trained hard to become an engineer.

The work I do isn't one for cowards nor illiterates.

I already have a job. I was offered the opportunity to join the Army after service and didn't. Not because I couldn't be a soldier, but the Nigerian Army isn't inspiring enough for an ambitious person like me.

I take it you haven't joined the Nigerian Army because you are a coward right?

I like Cameroon . If it is Nigeria army, they always use big number and round figure. We kill 1,000 Boko Haram members.

I tire ooo
this sophistication "excuse" is all a hoax,I wonder how light arms became sophisticated to chase an army like d NA with heavy artillery weapons.

My thoughts exactly. Whenever I hear the police say armed robbers had more sophisticated weapons and now soldiers saying Boko Haram have more sophisticated weapons I always wonder if we aren't talking AK-47.

The Cameroon government announced Tuesday that their military had killed 143 members of Islamic extremist group Boko Haram after the militants had attacked a Cameroonian military camp in Kolofata.

The militant group, who was recently responsible for the death of hundreds of unarmed citizens and the burning 10-20 Nigerian villages, has terrorized northeastern Nigeria for the past five years in an attempt to establish an Islamic Caliphate.

Just to tell you that the army is not under-equipped...it's purely sabotage from soldiers sympathetic to their course.

I'm sorry, that was a typographical error. What i intended to type was bemused, baffled, bewildered by your comments. Certainly not amused.

What i find bemusing by them?

Certainly, i fail to understand why despite your strong military knowledge, your comment to that lady, was rather empty (taking into context this COIN campaign), all though you said a lot.

1st off.

Battalion d'intervention rapide of cameroun is the creme de la creme of the camerounian military.

Contrary to reports, the southern part of lake chad in cameroun is firmly under terrorists control.

The BIR can fight, true, but they certainly are not better trained or armed than Nigerian military/ special forces.

I'm not even comparing the rest of the camerounian military, as they aren't worthy of mention.

So, let us compare.

Rifle

BIR = CTAR-21 & Galil ACE

Nigerian military S.F = AK-74 with grenade launcher.
= Beryl (effective range 600 meters)
= CTAR-21
= TAR-21
= MGL

Support Rifle

BIR = Negev LMG
Sniper rifle (manufacturer unknown)

Nigerian military S.F = modern Pecheneg
= Dragonuv and SSG69
= LG3 AGL mounted on cobra.

Fire Support

BIR = Chinese made 6x6 IFV

Nigerian military S.F = light mortar
=BTR-4E IFV
= BTR-3U IFV
= 25mm up-graded MT-LB
= Sagie AFV
= T-72AV, Vickers MK3, T-55.
= D30 howitzer
= Bofors howitzer
= palmaria spaag howitzer
= 105 mm howitzer
= MI-35/ MI-35M

Transport

BIR = Pick-up trucks (i've never seen them in an APC)

Nigerian military S.F = Cobra
= Streit MK3
= pick-up trucks
= CS/VP3 MRAP
= ..... more and more

In truth, we out-class the camerounians in every department as regards to equipment.

Instead, the camerounians have mastered the art of propaganda. there is no verifiable proof the camerounian military, including BIR, have performed better than the Nigerian military......... None!

Firstly the issue of territory if not outright annexation of Nigerian territory by Boko haram has been widely corroborated by both western & African main stream media and further corroborated by a whole range of contributions on social media, the matter is no longer in dispute. Boko haram have been holding territory for months.

Cameroon has an army of 20,000 compared to Nigeria’s near 150,000 excluding reserves, have nowhere near the military hardware of Nigeria. To date Boko have not been able to claim an inch of Cameroon’s territory.

How much weaponry have Boko seized, from the NA it’s embarrassing, APC’S abandoned even T55 tank, numerous LAV’s and countless vehicles. See below most recent Boko acquisitions from Baga looks like carton upon cartons of ammunition and hundreds of light arms including a good number of mortars. See in YouTube video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKb9Xm7CKP8

So what use is it to have all this weaponry assuming it’s all serviceable (considering our maintenance culture) the T55 is so outdated should be in a museum, the Vickers 3 MBT’s are 1980’s technology don’t have any target acquisition software and are not stabilised. But I digress so with all this hardware what have we done with it Boko are running wild for weeks Boko and are still in control of Baga, are we waiting for Chad to repossess Baga for us.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE WITH OUR DEADLY EQUIPMENT then compare what BIR has done quite with their (average)Chinese IFV’s with remote weapon stations and target acquisition FLIR recently chasing boko into Nigeria and rescuing 24 of their citizens from Boko just as they escaped into Nigerian territory of which they were not granted permission to enter Nigerian territory and complete the extraction of the hostages from Boko.

A classic example is the border town of Fotokol of which the Nigeria section is in complete Boko control. All these observation have been widely corroborated across different media and independent witness reports even video footage. Or should I talk about the substandard rejected BTR-4 by the Iraqis for being unfit with major structural defects that were sent back to Ukraine on the ship they came with all 40+ of them. That we seemingly have gone to procure most likely at way above valuation, why we know Egunje at the expense of our gallant soldiers see link below.

http://defence.pk/threads/iraqi-btr-4-shipment-heads-back-to-ukraine.294041/

I could talk about the comparative demerits of the BTR3 but that digresses from the original point, the efficacy of the Cameroon small sized forces with limited equipment in dealing with Boko compared to the Giant armed forces of Nigeria.

I’m a patriotic Nigerian but that doesn’t mean I call blue green because I want to support the Nigerian cause and enthrone lies and deceit.

Let’s not talk of the number of report indeed countless reports of a good number Nigerian soldiers simply turning and running in the face of the enemy, that’s should just too painful the realisation of the bitter truth.
