manny4life: Manny4life, you need to learn how to debate in a civil manner without being emotional. You get angry when things are not going your way. It is also clear you are not as non-partisan as you are claiming to be. The guy has explained that the savings from wastage in government spending and also savings from far less corruption practices and leakages could fund APC's social policies. If you dont agree with his points, please tell us why? No need for personal attacks. 3 Likes |

Its quite commendable that APC saw it fit to respond to the questions that Soludo's article raised. Upon careful scrutinization of their plan however their response has more questions embedded in it than solutions. Embarking vigorously on industrialization, public works and agricultural expansion. In the quote above APC state that they intend to focus on agriculture, industrialization and public works as avenues to provide the funds and jobs they promise. Supporters of the incumbent party will say that the present administration is already doing these things; GEJ has been pointing to his government's efforts in agriculture, manufacturing (the newly commissioned auto-mobile plants for example) as one of the areas his administration has achieved some measure of success. I have to ask, how is Buhari's plan in this regard better than GEJ's? This question also marries the concern of policy reversals, something virtually all governments in this country suffer from, when a new administration begins they tend to discontinue plans and policies made by their predecessors even when some progress has been made. 1 Like 1 Share |

arresa: This is the gross generalisation I think that APC suffers from. While one is not trying to underplay the harmful effects of corruption we also have to ask ourselves whether nations like Spain and Greece are in difficult economic straits because of looting and stealing? Are there no corrupt people in the US or UK? Sound economic policies is the way to growth. |

@Kororugged, This is not about being emotional or non-partisan or not; in a debate, respect is mutual. I made that last comment about APC because your guy was on attack mode. Why can't I criticize APC without being called clueless like GEJ? That's why I said no wonder Soludo referred to APC "Aggrieved People's Congress". Anyway, I am open to such debate based on the facts provided in both articles. |

Let us be clear that Buhari does not present the total package Nigerians want at this time. He is human, he is not perfect. But at this point in our history, at this time, at this moment, he presents the only viable option and avenue for the people to vent their frustrations and anger against an inept and clueless Federal Government. He represents the rallying point for the frustrated and teeming masses of our people. He reminds me of MKO Abiola (with some of his imperfections) who became the rallying point in the struggle against military rule. That is the change we are talking about. It is not a change from imperfection to perfection. It is a change from hopelessness and cluelessness to some hope and to some expectations. 1 Like 1 Share |

cesareborgia: Please read the APC manifesto. I extracted the following from there on Structure of Governance: "I, Muhammadu Buhari, believe that our politics is broken. Our nation urgently needs fundamental political reform and improvement in governance more transparency and accountable. If you nominate me in December, 2014 and elect me in February 2015, my administration will: Initiate action to amend the Nigerian Constitution with a view to devolving powers, duties, and responsibilities to states in order to entrench true Federalism and the Federal spirit; Strengthen INEC to reduce, if possible, eliminate electoral malpractices in Nigerian’s political life; Attract the best and brightest of our sons and daughters into our politics and public service by aggressive recruitment of private sector people, academics, and professionals within Nigeria and in the Diaspora through internships, fellowships, executive appointments, and special nomination to contest elective offices; Prevent the abuse and misuse of Executive, Legislative and Public offices, through greater accountability, transparency, strict, and implementable anti-corruption laws, through strengthening and sanitising the EFCC and ICPC as independent entities; Amend the Constitution to remove immunity from prosecution for elected officers in criminal cases; Restructure governance for a leaner, more efficient, and adequately compensated public service sector, while promoting effective participation of the private sector for more robust job creation programmes to employ the teaming youth.; Require full disclosure in media outlets, of all government contracts over N100m prior to award and during implementation at regular intervals; Reform and Strengthen the Justice System for efficient administration and dispensation of justice with the creation of special courts for accelerated hearing of corruption, drug trafficking, terrorism and similar cases of national importance; Fully enforce the Freedom of Information Act l so that government held data sets can be requested and used by the public and then such data sets be publish on regular basis; Amend the Constitution to require Local governments to publish their meeting minutes, service performance data, and items of spending over N10M. |
