AKWA Ibom State government has concluded plans to break the existing world record of the largest number of carol singers ever assembled in one place on the face of the planet.
The state is putting together a 9,300-man choir to sing Christmas Carols on Boxing Day, 26 of December, 2008,

A statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Pastor Anietie Ukpe said the event tagged “AKSG Carol Night 2008”, which is packaged as a tourism act, would be declared open by the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.

The statement reads in part: “the event would seek to best the former record set at Bob Jones University in the United States, when 7,514 carol singers assembled to sing carols and left a record which had received hallowed mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for years

“Akwa Ibom”, he explained, “is set to beat that world record with a surplus of 1,786 carol singers above the Bob Jones University record, and have served notice to the Guinness Book of World Records Committee in London of its ambitious intentions.”

The statement further said: “the choir would perform on a special dais set up at the Uyo Township Stadium, the venue of the event, and would be supported by a resonant fifty-piece brass band.

“The conductor will be on a separate elevated dais where the singers can see him. Several governors, ministers, National Assembly members, members of the diplomatic corps, etc are expected to grace the event.”

Accordingly, the governor’s pointsman said the 9,300-man choir would be drawn from the state, adding that each of ten villages would contribute 30 choristers and this would add up to 310 choristers per local government.

Akwa Ibom State has 31 local government areas and with each contributing 310 choristers the total number of choristers would be the record-breaking number of 9,300.

The event was showed LIVE worldwide on different stations.

Tourism act for who? Who's coming to visit? What do you have to offer your "tourists"?!

The statement reads in part: “the event  would seek to best the former record set at Bob Jones University in the United States, when 7,514 carol singers assembled to sing carols and left a record which had received hallowed mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for years

See idiots, America got road, light, food, housing, water, everything you don't have. And all you can think of is to compete with them on Christmas caroling.

"Several governors, ministers, National Assembly members, members of the diplomatic corps, etc are expected to grace the event.”

You impoverish your people on a daily basis, yet these fools have the nerve to "grace" an event and show their face in public. Should the 9,000 + hungry souls feel honored? But then again, they probably felt honored that their leaders came to watch them sing.  undecided

Accordingly, the governor’s pointsman said the 9,300-man choir would be drawn from the state, adding that each of ten villages would contribute 30 choristers and this would add up to 310 choristers per local government.

It's a shame all 9,300 of those people didn't turn on those "dignitaries" and beat the daylight out of them until they cough up all the money they've collectively stolen.

Akwa ibom and nigeria in general is on the guiness book of records again, i have seen many dumb things nationals of the so called "developed" nations have done to enter the book of records, and those things have nothing to do with their country's national development, Akwa ibom assembled 9300 people in one place to the glory of God and the enjoyment of people who came to listen, i think we should give credit to what people come up with ideas like this in nigeria and not condemn anything we try to do, however, it was not a govt idea, govt only supported a private initiative and it worked. Lastly, Akwa Ibom will soon become a tourist destination like its sister state cross river. Nigeria is changing though at a snail place but i believe that one day , WE CAN, all you people who think WE CAN"T, stay abroad and never come back but don't interfer with our country because you don't belong here.

I LOVE MY COUNTRY cheesy
