Just then the intercom rang,ivie who has been listening and enjoying their conversation picked it"yes,this is ivie james"she replied in a lady-like manner.
"The meeting starts now"the voice said
"Ok,i will be there in a jiffy"she replied and dropped the phone"babes,i need to go" she said as she picked some files and a flashdrive
She left the office and headed to the conference hall,when she got there,she greeted and sat down
Mr larricot,the ceo addressed them on a lot of issues,then he turnned to ivie and said "miss james,can yyou give us the outcome of the research you carried out concerning the proposals we gave you"
Ivie stood up and addressed them
"Well,the first proposal from the ministry of work is a no-go area because according to them,they wont give us any deposit,we have to use our money to execute the project,then upon completion,they will pay us,the project required a huge amount of money,such that we will have to obtain loan oof 500M from the bank,i spoke with the bank manager who said he will only grant us the loan if we guaranteed that we will pay within a month,and he said he is only giving us based on our past records because 500M is huge,last i checked,this is nigeria,people dont keep promises,if we complete the project for the government,they might not pay us,they might give us "come today,come tomorrow" and if that happens,we might close the company and as well be on our way to jail for bankrupcy,sir in my humble opinion,we cant put all our eggs in one basket,it's way too risky and we have everhthing to lose"

Mr larricot got up "such intelligence" he thought "is there anyone with a different opinion" he asked but no one replied "son?"he asked pointing to martins.

"dad,,what do you want me to say? You always listen to her as if she is a fountain of wisdom,all i know is that ,the first proposal is a good catch,life itself is full of risks" martins threw at his father angrily.

"Mr martins,we cant put everything at stake and i concur with ivie's suggestion" mr adem,a member of yhe interview department said.

"Well,son,we will go with miss ivie,i think that is the best" mr larricot said and turned to ivie "can we have the record for last month pls"
Ivie stood up and inserted the drive into a system and finance record for last month was displayed.

"We have a total net amount of 990B in the bank excluding all expenses such as salaries and tax etc,the three companies we worked with has paid us excluding izel"ivie replied
"Something is wrong,because the bank manager sent me a statement this morning,and it was 970B ,so how come??"mr larricot asked with all seriousness while martins was smiling mischeviously
The whole atmosphere was tensed,30 minutes later of cross-checking,mr larricot noticed where the mistake was "i've seen the mistake,izel hasnt paid us,so the 20B Should be in the debit side and not in the credit side"

"well,our fountain of wisdom is not that perfect and intelligent as we thought" martins said sarcastically
"I'm so sorry for the incoveniences,i will correct it immediately and mr martins,we all make mistakes,so dont judge me by my mistakes,as a matter of fact,i demand an apology" ivie said irritatedly

"Apology indeed!! You dont take your work seriously and that has brought confusion and you want an apology,i think you should apologise for your negligence of duty" martins replied her angrily.
Ivie was so embarassed,she wanted the ground to swallow her
"Lets forget about it and one more thing,my retirement party. And birthday comes next week,these old bones need to rest"mr larricot said
Everybody laughed "we will be more prepared to make it worthwhile"mr adem chirped in.
"So,that brings us to the end of the meeting,shall we pray?" mr larricot said
They all closed their eyes and the ceo said a short prayer and they all dismissed.
Mr larricot signalled to martins to wait behind,"son,do you have any problem with ivie"
"DaD,i dont have any problem with her"martins replied
"Even if you have find a way to work together with her if i am gone.i know she wont make any bad decision for the company.mr larricot said'
"dad,it's okay,can i take my leave now'he asked,mr larricot nodded and martins left the hall
Martins smiled as he left the hall as he thought about what his dad said
If only he knew how deep he loves her,if only he knew ivie is the cause of his sleepless night,if only he knew how he always kiss her picture every nightbefore going to bed.

But his egoistic nature wont allow him to show it,martins was a player in the university,girls flock around him,and he treated them anyhow,he has no respect whatsoever for a lady,but he love ivie genuinely since the day she started working,but he dont wanna show it because he's a control freak that believes only weak men show their feeelings,martins always get what he wanted legallly or illegally.

Ivie is a stubborn lady who cant be tossed anyhow
With those thoughts,he entered his office and started working

Ivie entered the office looking dejected and weak
"Ivory coast,are you ok?this one you. are looking like a drained fellow" nene said jokingly
"I've told you not to call me ivory coast again,am gud justI tried,lafura,the record you gave me is utter crap,izel hasnt paid,so it should be in the debit side and not credit side,you need to see the way the ceo's son was spewing thrash" Ivie spat out angrily.

"It's ok,the birthday and sent-forth part for the ceo,comes next week" Ivie informed.

"Really? I cant wait o" nene replied excitedly

"it's almost time,you guys aint going home huh?" Ivie replied.

The three friends left the office,and went to the spot where Ivie parked her car.
"Damn,this car stinks" nene mocked

"Yeah,i know,i will wash it today,let's go" Ivie said and zoomed off.

After some minutes of driving,the three friends chatted almost about everything.Ivie dropped them in their estate.

Ivie drove to a car wash and greeted a young man she saw "good evening,please i wanna wash my car"

"No problem,do you want it done now or what" the young man asked

"No,i will pick it tomorrow,very early" she said and dropped the key and took a cab to her house.

On getting there,she picked up her phone and called her dad who is living outside with her mummy,Ivie is the only one living in nigeria,she has two elder brothers who are based abroad.

"Hello dad………how is mummy………dad,my birthday approaches………thank you very much ………my regards to everyone………i miss you dad"

She dropped the phone and slept off.

Ivie woke up early,she cleaned her room,and took her bath,she too her breakfast and left the house,she took a cab to the car wash,ivie was excited when she saw her car looking new

"Thank you very much" she said as she paid the young guy who gave her,her car keys
The guy gave ivie her change but she refused,"please keep the change ,you've done a wonderful work" Ivie replied

If only,people could be diligent in their work,if only people could be committed to their work,no matter how demeaning it is,this country would have been a better place.
But then,everyone is looking for a way to make fast money,no one wants to work their butt off to get money.
Young people of nowadays,are using unemployment as an excuse to defend laziness,find something to do,a little drop of watervmakes a mighty ocean.

This is the first time she is washing her car in a different environment.she has a particular joint where she normally wash her car,but like they say"over-familiarity breeds contempt" they took her granted.

What happened was very simple,she took her car there to be washed,but they didnt wash it,and when she queried them,they gave one silly excuse that the dust had it's way,whereas they didnt wash it,Ivie instructed them to re_wash it,but they demand another payment,that was the last straw for ivie
The aftermath was that ivie vowed not to step there again.
IN THE OFFICE
Nene was listening to celine dion's loved me back to life,with headphone and she was singing it loud

Martins entered and shouted at nene "hey,this is an office and not a party,try to composed yourself,and. Stop behaving like a sex-starved idiot" and he left

Nene mumbled "douchebag" while lafura and ivie laughed
there isnt much to do,iviee sat down and was playing game on her system when kelv entered.
"Hey,ivie,i called you like seven times yesterday,but you didnt pick up"kelv said
Ivie didnt bat an eyelid as she focused on the game she was playing.

"Hey,i'm talking to you"kelv said

"I knew you are talking to me,that was the reason i didnt answer" ivie said.

"Ok,fine,pls can we go on a date" kelv asked

"With a gun in my head,i'm still going to say no" she rUeplied with a smirk.

"Get out and fvck off" ivie barked angrily and kelv left in shame

"Ivie,that was rude"lafura said gently

"Did u say rude? That was wicked and harsh,for crying out loud,it's just a date and nothing else" nene said

"Yeah,i know,i just dont want to entangle myself wiith any guy for now" ivie said.

"Screw that ,i understand if you have a painful relationship in the past but i'm sorry but it happens,but you imploding your pains on other guys may be the pettiest thing you've ever done,and i think it's high time you start you start dealing with your crap" Nene said angrily

This was too much for ivie to take,she picked her bag and left the office,she gave lafure the"i cant take it anymore" look.

"Nene,that was too much,you should atleast hear her out before passing judgement"lafura said.

Lafura left the office also

Ivie got home with tears in her eyes "how could she judge me without hearing me out"she thought,if there is anything she loves doing when she is sad,it would be cooking.
She entered the the kitchen,she was preparing fried rice and chicken.Halfway,she heard a knock on her door,she rushed to the door and opened it,she was suprised to see lafura.
"Pls,come in" she said politely

"Oh my God,ivie are you crying?"lafura asked

"Not at all,i was slicing onions in the kitchen,that was why"she lied and continued "let me quickly check my food,keep yourself busy,i will be back" she replied and rushed to the kitchen.

Thirty minutes later,she came to the living room with a bowl of fried rice and a plate of chicken,she heard a knock on the door,she dropped the food on the table and gave lafura a quizzical look of "do you invite someone",she went and opened the door,and was shocked to see nene.

"What do you want?"she asked

"Ivie,i'm so sorry for my outburst the other time,i was just angry,biko no vex"nene apologised

"It's ok,come in pls"she said and smiled dryly

They both entered.

"i knew it,my legs dont disappoint me,so you people were organising a party and you no wan call me huh?"nene said jokingly when she saw the food.

"Ivie ,now close your eyes,breath in and let's hear your story" lafura said

"Well,i'm quite unfortunate with my relationships,my first boyfriend was the guy i wished to marry,but then fate,has its way,i love jeremy very much,my first love,we went to the same school and we started dating,he told me,his dad asked him to study abroad,but unfortunately,he couldnt make it,so he schooled in nigeria,we lost contact,but i was still holding on,i distanced myself away from guys,because i believed he will come back,and yes he did,we met at a cinema,the feeling was mutual,we hugged me tightly for some Minutes,and then we started planning our wedding ceremony,three month to the wedding,he had an accident,and that was it,some said he's still alive,other said he's dead,it took me a trip to a therapeutic centre and 3 month of crying before i could move on,i still care about him though"Ivie said with tears welling up in her eyes.

"Ivie,i'm so sorry"was all nene could say.


"Yeah,my two other relationships were nothing to write home about,i. was duped,he said he loved me,whereas he loved my money,he got away with my money and he married someone else,while the last one treated me like thrash,i dont feel the pain,cos it's more like a re-bound,nothing special,so i cancelled guys from my life

After some minutes of convincing,Ivie agreed to be lenient with guys.

Ivie entered the office and realised most staffs have gone for the party.

"Nenne,dont tell me you are going for the party dressed like this,i'm sorry but the cloth is exposing alot" ivie explained

"Let's be on our way jor,i feel comfortable in it and that is all that matters"nene replied

Nene was wearing a red strapless mini gown that barely covers her butt,most people would mistook the gown for a top,because it's very short.

The rate of indecent dressing among our youth today is alarming,they want to look good and thereby dress to kill,but we should know that the way we dress is the way we will be addressed,if we cant dress peoperly,then we shouldnt be pissed if someone is saying rubbish to us,we all used the excuse of "i feel comfortable in it",indecent dressing breeds a lot of unfortunate vices.

"Alright,let's be on our way,but you guys have to wait for me,let me buy a present from balina supermarket" ivie said

The three friends left the office while ivie quickly rushed to balina supermarket,a classic supermarket where most rich people do their shopping,it's directly opposite LARRICOT COMPANY.

On getting there,ivie realised,she has a greater problem,the ceo is over 60years,and she dont know what to buy for him.
If it were to be a young guy's birthday,she knew she have to buy a designer top,a fashionable belt or probably a sneaker,but a man up to 60 wont cherish that.

She was lost in thought,when a masculine voice jolted her back to reality

"Hello,how are you doing" the voice said.

"I'm doing fine" ivie replied shakly

Ivie did a quick estimation of the guy in her head,everything he was wearing screams wealth,he is tall,dark and handsome,with a sexy dimples when he smiled.

"So,are you shopping for your partner" the guy replied

"Not at all,i'm shopping for my ceo,today is his birthday and i dont know what to buy,i mean he's up to 60," ivie explained.

"Well,i can be of help,because i've a dad who is up to that age and i'm closer to him" the guy said

"Really? Please help me out" iivie pleaded

"Well,i will be more pleased to help a beautiful damsel like you" the guy said

Ivie blushed,but she hid it well

"Now,you can buy a classic masculine cologne and probably a suit,then a fashionable suitcase,trust me,he will appreciate" the guy said.

"Oh,thank you very much,i didnt think about that,and who are you shopping for? Your significant other??" ivie asked with a smile

"Nope,my sister,her birthday is tomorrow,and i dont know what to buy also"

"Come along,let me show you what girls need and cherish" ivie said excitedly.

After a few minutes of selecting,ivie picked a cologne and a suit while the guy picked a beautiful flower and a necklace with the help of ivie.

"So we've been chatting and i dont even know your name?? I'm dave by the way"

"I'm ivie james"

"Wow,lovely,do you live around?"

"No,i dont,i'm working at larricot company,dave,i'm running late,let me be on my way" ivie said

"Cool,let me see you off" dave replied

They both left the supermarket,they giggled,chatted and laughed hard.

Martins was on the balcony and he saw them,he felt a sharp pain in his heart,he gave ivie the "you are a ho" look and walked away

Nene and lafura were suprised seeing a guy with ivie,when ivie noticed the shock written on their face,she quickly introduced dave.

"Hmm,dave,meet my co-staffs and my friends,lafura and nene and babes,meet dave,a guy i met at the supermarket" ivie said with a smile

"Nice meeting you girls" dave said

"The pleasure is mine"lafura replied

"Ivie,i needbto be on my way,i will call you today" dave said and left

"Alright,take care" ivie said and smiled

"He's cute,very cute" nene said

"I'm not a killjoy,but i've a bad feeling about him" lafura replied.

"We will see to that later,we are running late" nene replied and they entered ivie's car ans she zoomed off to the birthday venue.
