yeah. We both know that's the most mined and IED ridden place on earth. Just because they ain't engaging in war doesn't mean Sambisa can outperform it. Except we want to say "the most-ied-ridden-ACTIVE conflict area"

[Quote]I watched a documentary on Aljazeera two weeks ago; sambisa forest in Nigeria ranked first when it comes to all sorts of I.E.D.....!!
Av got some horrible images NA troops , E.O.D and armored Brigade personnels blown into pieces, some roasted and over 70% burnt.

AMISOM force apprehends Al-Shabaab leader in S. Somalia

Somali government’s army commander in Qoryoley, Ahmed Gabow Bule confirmed that the allied forces captured Mohamed Ali Gele, the militants’ commander who was operating in many areas in lower Shabelle region after long search for him.

“The joint forces captured Mohamed Ali Gele, Shabaab’s Commander for Qoyoley, Janale towns and many other villages in the region. We were looking for him for a period of time. We arrested him in a security operation which was conducted in the region,” Bule said.

“The police are questioning him; we will transfer him to the central government of Somalia after the investigation. This was a very successful operation that resulted in the arrest of one of the senior Al-Shabaab commanders,” he added.

Government and regional leaders said they are going to intensify more security operations against Al-Qaida linked group of Al-Shabaab across the Horn of Africa nation.

The group lost many key towns in south and central Somalia, but it still carries out deadly attacks in Somalia including the killing of Kenyan soldiers in Gedo region on Jan. 15 and attack on a beach restaurant in Mogadishu in late January. Enditem

I like that the soldiers are becoming increasingly better armed individually. Still a bit to go though...

Also the momentum against BH is extraordinary. The goat shaggers are getting smashed from all angles!
I look forward to a template like the Sri Lankan example of total vanquishing

Military in gun battle with Boko Haram in Borno...

There is a heavy fighting going on at strategic  Bita town near Gwoza in Borno state  between Boko Haram and the Military.

The fighting that started last night when insurgents in an attemtp to capture Gwoza attacked a military facility at Bita where they met a stiff resistatnce from the army, went on throughout Monday night and continued Tuesday morning.

The fight was said to have forced the military to deploy fighter jets from Yola to support ground troops who were being overwhelmed.

A source  close to the ongoing war said the quick response by the jets was a big relief to the troops.

Gwoza is one of the Borno twons recaptured from the militants, and some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the area returned there recently on the assurance that normalcy has been restored to the area.

US drone strike ‘kills 150 militants’ in Somalia

A US drone strike has killed 150 suspected al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia, the Pentagon announced on Monday.

The strikes were conducted by manned and unmanned aircrafts on Saturday against the Raso Camp, 120 miles north of Mogadishu, where the al-Qaeda affiliated terror group supposedly built a training facility.

The fighters who were scheduled to depart the camp posed an imminent threat to US and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces in Somalia," Pentagon officials said in a statement.

US defense officials had been monitoring the camp for several weeks and said that more than 200 fighters were planning attacks against US and African Union forces.

"We continue to assess the results of the operation and will provide additional information as and when appropriate," the statement read.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that the mission “is exactly the kind of counterterrorism strategy the president has laid out."

However, Earnest added that the Obama administration is unaware if the airstrikes had injured or killed any civilians in the area, USA Today reports.

“Avoiding civilian casualties is a very, very high priority, both for moral reasons, but also because terrorist organizations like al-Shabab will just use that for recruiting purposes."

The Chief of South African National Defence Force, General Zakaria Shoke has re-affirmed his country’s willingness to work with Nigerian Armed Forces to the benefit of the two countries.

General Shoke made this known when he visited the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin in his office in Abuja.

The Chief of South African National Defence Force promised to support Nigeria in its quest to end Boko Haram in the country. General Shoke further maintained his Armed Forces commitment to the development of the Nigerian military in the area of capacity building, exchange programme and logistics support, among others. He said Nigeria is very important to South Africa, hence the need to working together for the benefit of both countries, especially now when Nigeria is fighting Boko Haram.

While responding, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olonisakin thanked the South African Chief of National Defence Force for the visit and solicited for more cooperation in defence related matters. This, he said would go a long way in strengthening the two countries bilateral cooperation.

General Olonisakin also requested for training of more Special Forces and other equipment that could be used in the operations against Boko Haram which has been substantially decimated and degraded. He said the war against terror is closing up and would soon end.

The occasion also witnessed briefing from the 3 Services of the Nigerian Armed Forces who stated the need for logistics and training support to further terminate the war against Boko Haram soon.

TROOPS REPELLED ATTACK IN PULKA AND BITTA

Troops of 26 and 28 Task Force Brigades repelled an early morning daring attack by fleeing Boko Haram terrorists on military locations at Pulka and Bitta in the fringes of Sambisa forest.
Today, troops of 114 Task Force Battalion came under three-pronged attack by Boko Haram terrorists fanning out of Sambisa forest from Damboa, Tokumbere and Pulka axis.
At the end of the debacle, 2 Boko Haram insurgents paid for their atrocities with their lives while several others sustained gun shot injuries. The fate that befell those that attacked Pulka was more dreadful.
The ever ready and vigilant troops rose to the occasion by repelling the attacks and killing all the 16 attackers and captured one of them alive during the exploitation. The gallant troops also recovered 11 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 1 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) and 2 Toyota Hilux vehicles. Others are a 60mm Mortar tube, 7 boxes of 12.7mm ammunition and 1 belt of 12.7mm ammunition.
It is gratifying to state that there were no casualty on our own troops except for 3 soldiers that sustained minor injuries.
The troops remained on maximum alert and are equally busy consolidating and continuing with their clearance operations with high morale.
Kindly disseminate this information and attached photographs to the public through your medium.
Thank you for your kind cooperation.

Nigerian Air Force, army troops liberate Iza from Boko Haram

Nigerian troops have chased out Boko Haram insurgents from their camp at Iza, Borno State.

During a joint operation of the Nigerian Army and Air Force, the terrorists were forced to flee into Samba Forest after their location came under heavy air attacks by the Alpha Jets.

This was disclosed on Wednesday, March 9, by Ayodele Famuyia, Group Captain Director of Public Relations & Information.

“The success of the air attack paved way for the follow-up clearance operation by own troops of 121 Task Force Battalion who consolidated on the gains of the air strikes to flush out the remnants of BHT as well as destroyed their leftover camps.”

“During the ground movement, the Mi-35 Helicopter gunships were overhead to provide Close Air Support for the advancing troops while the Beechcraft aircraft supported with Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.”

“The combined air and land operation against the Boko Haram Sect was conducted during the early hours of yesterday 8 March 2016. The fall of Iza and its liberation by own troops further attests to the recent gains recorded by the military in the combined efforts to rid the country of the menace posed by the religious sect.”
