The Royal Marines or British Paras are not SOF, not even close to it. I can only speak of the British Paras because I was in the same brigade as them, trained with them, and deployed with them. The only difference between the Paras and other British Army troops is that the Paras have a higher physical fitness requirement to get in and remain in, they also need to do a jump course to get their wings. This doesn't make them SOF though, anyone in the wider Army can undergo the jump course, pass it and get the wings. The UK isn't like the US where anyone can do undergo a physical fitness course, do a few jumps and call themselves SOF. It's a separate pathway entirely outside the regular Army. When I was with the American 82nd Airborne, 99.9% of soldiers I saw there had a SF badge. It's because they have a different 'easier' system there compared to the UK.

Plus, when you talk about 'the Paras', it's a bit of a misnomer because there are 4 units in the Paras of which only 1 Para is ever held at high readiness to support the British SF. 2 and 3 Para are regular Army troops as I mentioned above. 4 Para are a bunch of wannabe civilians who claim to be a reserve airborne unit. Personally, inasmuch as I acknowledge the high physical regime and winged up status of the Paras, I wouldn't even consider them to be 'elite'. A guy joins the Army, undergoes and passes a fitness course, gets his wings. It doesn't make him 'elite'.

Whatever you say.

http://www.eliteukforces.info/16-air-assault-brigade/

What is in a name? A country's forces that respond first to a crisis can be regarded as the elite and in essence, SOF. Just like the Panthers.

BTW, don't turn your nose up at reservists. I have a friend who was in 10 Para TA before they were disbanded in 99 and I recall stories of them out performing regulars in exercises.

PRESS RELEASE

TROOPS THWART BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACK AT MAGUMERI VILLAGE

Troops of Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Magumeri, Borno State had a fierce encounter with Boko Haram Terrorists on the 3rd of May 2019. The criminals came in numbers to infiltrate Magumeri village in order to loot food items and other valuables. The indefatigable troops effectively thwarted the terrorists' plan through superior fire power.

During the encounter, the gallant troops exterminated scores of the insurgents and many escaped with gunshot wounds. A pursuit/ clearance operation has been sustained to deal with the remaining fleeing criminals.

Recall that the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) launched Operation YANCIN TAFKI in February this year, the operation has denied the terrorists freedom of action and access to foodstuffs and other logistics which forced them to resort to looting vulnerable communities and villages for food stuffs and other necessities.

However, during the encounter the terrorists suffered heavy losses/ casualty. Unfortunately, five soldiers paid the supreme price. Troops have continued to intensify vigilance and high level of alertness to deny the bandits freedom of action. The Commander Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE Major General Olufemi Akinjobi has on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff commended the troops for their gallantry, resilience and patriotism. He charged them to maintain the momentum and the successes achieved so far to ensure the final defeat of the terrorists .

#Tunisia- MoI photos of equipment seized in operation in which 3 militants (officially attributed to #ISIS) were killed clear out the confused reporting- it is in fact 2 AKs & 1 Steyr AUG.
Not shown in the photo unfortunately are the 2 reported explosive belts.

PRESS RELEASE

ENFORCEMENT OF BAN ON THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES IN EX HARBIN KUNAMA AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Nigerian Army (NA) over time has observed the use of motorcycles by armed bandits, kidnappers, criminal elements and their collaborators as enablers to perpetrate their heinous crimes especially in the states within the north west geopolitical zone of the country.

This informed the decision and directive to ban the use of motorcycles within the hinterland particularly around the Forests where the armed bandits, criminals and kidnappers hibernate and all around where troops are conducting operations alongside other security agencies.

While this may cause some inconveniences to some law abiding citizens in the area, the need to use all means possible to stop the dastardly activities of these bandits across the North West part of Nigeria needs no emphasis.

The general public, particularly in the North West and some parts of North Central in Nigeria where Ex HARBIN KUNAMA is ongoing are enjoined to bear with the NA as concerted efforts are being made to combat the insecurity menace ongoing within the area.

In this wise, it is hereby reiterated that the use of motorcycles remain banned within the forest areas in KANO, KATSINA, ZAMFARA, SOKOTO, KADUNA, KEBBI and NIGER States. Anyone caught using motorcycles within the named areas will be taken for an armed bandit, criminal and kidnapper with dire consequences.

The respective State Governments are enjoined to please disseminate the ban on the use of motorcycles in the named areas and enforce the ban in conjunction with the Security Agencies.

Egypt has the most powerful military in the continent and the twelfth globally (out of 137 countries) with a score of "0.2283, global fire index. With more than 211 jet fighters, Egypt is the ninth world's air power.
Egypt is really making Africans proud, 12th out of 137 countries... shocked
Currently Israel ranks 16th in the (G.F.P 2019) military ratings strength? These translate that Egypt is really investing in its modern military modernization. Can Egypt defeat Israel or will it be a stalemate in the eventuality of another Yom Kippur War.... ...... grin shocked

My brother it's one thing to have equipments but its another to know how to use it on the battle field. you also have to take into consideration the soldiers fighting or using the pieces of equipment, their officers in command of those equipments. A clear example is Soudi Arabia. The houtis in yemen are giving them hard times and they have to rely on mercenaries and on their airforce.but can't win a war in the air only, you need soldiers on the ground and we have seen what caliber soudi soldiers are made off grin grin grin grin grin. The Israeli army isn't big in question but my brother but their abilities to wage war is outstanding and they keep learning with foes like hamas and hezbollah.Taking into consideration factors such as Intel collection, Outstanding officers corps who are perfectly drilled, Force multipliers such as the airforce who are top notched in every aspect. in case of a war between Israel and Egypt, I won't say Israel would come out as a clear winner as before because it would be hard but israel would win at the end.

LOL so egypt won't recieve help it's muslim brothers such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and others. BIG LIE.Who provides the funds for Egypt to equip it's self like that, SAUDI ARABIA. Without them Egypt would still be flying F-16s and Mirage-2000s. Yes the US provides funds to Israel but know this with or without Us aid, Israel is still a force to reckon with. You can have sophisticated weaponry but if yoy don't have the know how to use it its as useless as not having it.Why has Egypt not been able to deal with insurgency in the Sinai with all those sophisticated weaponry? When you see the training schemes of the Egyptian military, seriously you have the impression it is a mirror image of the soviet military in the 70s.Heavy, Static, with Officers who can't take initiatives and are not flexible. The Egyptian military still functions with soviet doctorine and know that such doctrine isn't valid in this period. I on't say the Israeli Military is the best but lets be sincere, they have the best Officer corps in the region, well trained and drilled, able to adapt to the battlefield, flexibility and above all battled hardened troops.. One also has to take the other aspects such as forces multipliers like secret gathering. We know the Mossad and the SinBet are the one of the best HUMIT AND SIGNIT organizations in the world and I bet you they have already infiltrated the Egyptian High command and other command and control centers. The Israeli Airforce is second to known in the region and you won't argue that, both in areial warefare and ground support. We saw the what the Egyptian Airforce can do when they attacked Isis in Lybia, they didn't even cause any major damages with their attacks.
Yes war won't be easy to win but lets be sincere Israel would come out Winner though shaken, the Egyptian Military has progressed but they still use doctorines of other generation.Equipments isn't everything in WAREFARE
