meforyou1: I will give u only 10 reasons why goodluck should be held responsible for pdp free fall. 1. Not even one quarel amongst members was resolved amicably. He never brokered as a leader. He instead will look for new friends and allow feuding members sort themselves 2. He gave his wife too much powers. He never questioned her actions. 3. He was fond of calling the igbos pillar of his govt (pls am not a tribalist). This sent a wrong signal to other parts of the country. 4. He showed open admiration towards some members at the expense of others 5. He allowed some very powerful members to leave the party. He covertly supported the move to push them out. He told the whole world that they wont be missed. 6. As a father and leader of a big house he never bothered to question the activities of his kitchen cabinet members. 7. He played politics of pady pdy when he was suppose to be a father 8. He used unconstitutional means to remove obj's loyalist from the party executive commitee 9. From nasarawa to abia to rivers to imo to enugu, ebonyi and even lagos state pdp primaries leading to the 2015 election caused so much disafection. He never bothered to broker real peace and true reconciliation. Some members moved camp while others became moles. 10. He was holier than the pope. As a party leader he openly showed the muslims in his party that he careless bout theor religion. When his spokes persons are not brandishing the entire muslims boko haram, he will openly affiliate with CAN. This would have been ok but since nigeria is a secular stae he should have showen equal respect to all religions. Let me stop here. No insults pls. Constructive counter opinion pls. 6 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: You took your time. I was expecting you. Where on earth would this thread be without the usual "GEJ was a victim of a Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba gang-up" contribution? What happened is that Tinubu (politician) and buhari (politician) defeated GEJ( politician). If you want to make it Tinubu (Yoruba) and Buhari (Fulani) ganged-up to defeat GEJ (Ijaw) then that is your own business. All I know is that your talk reveals the attitude of a failure with a siege mentality and persecution complex. Politics happened. Get over it and learn some useful lessons instead of crying all over the forum about "betrayal" and "gang-up" pitifully. 4 Likes |

reborn1: Perhaps he is right. It might be easier to make KOWA the main opposition than to try and rebuild the PDP which is now a failed brand and essentially a regional Party as things stand. 6 Likes |

tripod: All you have said is true , especially number 1 above, but Jonathanians have no capacity for facing the truth. Jonathan's style was to try and politically destroy those who disagree with him or are unwilling to let him have his ways. The GEJ-backed impeachment of Nyarko and attempted impeachment of Al Makura caused a great deal of bad blood and widened the already big chasm that existed between member of the PDP GEJ had already divided and set against each other. You got it spot-on when you argued Jonathan was never interested in brokering peace. He was power drunk and believed his position meant he was above others and could not be brought down. Do you remember how he handled the whole G-7 governors issue? He bullied them out of the PDP and kept them out with his arrogant and dictatorially belligerent snub of the relatively straightforward conditions the governors gave for returning to the PDP. As usual, GEJ stuck his fingers up at them and told them he did not "give a damn". This is why I personally despise the fans of GEJ who prefer to operate with ethnocentric fervour and revisionism rather than face the truth. They will claim "ethnic gang-up" and that GEJ's "only crime" was to "allow free and fair election" but forget the period below, and many like it, where GEJ arrogantly chose the path of war and discord thus leaving others no choice but to take him on for their political survival. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/g-7-govs-give-jonathan-fresh-conditions/ G-7 govs give Jonathan fresh conditions 1 Like |

Sweetguy25: I'll help you: We all agree pdp was a national party, right? What does it take to be a national party? In the real sense of the word, a national party carries everyone along. Muslims, Christians, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, atheists, Ibibio, Kanuri..name it. To keep all these divergent interests under the purview of one umbrella (if I may leverage the pun in that), the last thing you want to do is play ethnic/religious politics, or allow people willing to pay such dirty games hijack your disposition. This takes an incredible deal of effort and alertness to accomplish. Note that the alternative, that is, doing nothing about it, might maximise your popularity with the favoured group...but this effect is mutual and opposite with the unfavoured group. Jonathan might have been a good person, but he never cared about being perceived to be good. He allowed the likes of Oritsejeafor, Asari Dokubo, Oyedepo and Patience polarise the country with their inflammatory pronouncements. His silence was seen as tacit approval and the preexisting schisms became aggravated, with the resulting effects commencing from under the umbrella itself. Those who felt their interests were marginalised had no further reason to continue to remain with him...remember, to maintain national spread, you must carry everyone along, not marginalise them. Jonathan was the author of his own downfall through his silence; or perhaps, his inability to take charge of his ship. 2 Likes |

ijebubabe: This has nothing to do with Obasanjo. Once you are in that seat, it is at your own discretion to provide the electorates what they require of you and the electorates can exercise their civic right based on your performance. Goodluck, as the national leader of the PDP, destroyed the PDP party by not reconciling warring factions and by allowing disintegration of the party. This is not about winning an election or allowing a free and fair election; which should be the case automatically. However, Goodluck allowed aggrieved members to defect to the opposition and made the opposition stronger. He and the PDP stalwarts should be held responsible for the massive defeat of the PDP. I am also grateful to God that at least the votes of the electorates now counts, despite the irregularities that occurred in some states. I also want to correct an anomaly being represented on Goodluck conducting a free and fair election. The process actually began with the late President Yaradua, after widespread condemnation from both International and local observers on the 2007 elections. However, we must be grateful to President Goodluck for consolidating the process and likewise, for conceding defeat. I also want to add that President Goodluck was left with no option than to concede defeat, if he had chosen otherwise, there would have been tension in the country and he would also be held responsible for it by the international court of justice. Now, it is up to the President-Elect to implement proper democracy structures because, unfortunately, we have never had a true democracy. Nigeria is currently experiencing civil rule but not a true democracy. A true democracy is one where institution works without interference. |

babasanti: IBB said what? Let me help you out. The PDP was an amalgamation of groups. Initiated by G9, comprising Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Chief Solomon Lar, Senator Francis Ellah, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Chief Bola Ige, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, Prof. Jerry Gana, Alhaji Sule Lamido and Mallam Adamu Ciroma, it metamorphosed to G18 and G34. Founded on August 31, 1998 , the PDP has had 11 national chairmen in the last 17 years, including ex-Vice President Alex Ekwueme who was in office for three months before quitting to contest for the presidential ticket with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. Other past chairmen were the late Chief Solomon Lar; Sen. Barnabas Gemade; Chief Audu Ogbeh; Sen. Ahmadu Ali; Prince Vincent Ogbulafor; Okwesilieze Nwodo; Bello Haliru Mohammed; Abubakar Kawu Baraje; Bamanga Tukur; and Adamu Muazu. But the build-up to the fall of the PDP started during its National Convention in 1999 when it began to change its leadership like clothes. At the said convention, Chief Gemade, who was backed by the presidency, defeated Chief Sunday Awoniyi to become the first elected national chairman of the party. It was the first direct interference of the government in the internal affairs of the PDP and most foundation members were disappointed that the then Obasanjo administration was about to hijack the party structure. 1 Like |
