AfricanGod2: How can Anambra have a Higher GDP than Ogun, Ondo and Osun in 2007, anf then in 2010, has a lower GDP than all three? Are you telling me that These states Outgrew Anambra? These are 2010 figures, from the NBS 3 Likes 1 Share |

customized07: And by what statistical analysis, metrics or benchmark did you arrive at that nonsense you just spewed? Based on the last released official GDP stats, Ogun was in the top 10 -- it ranked #9 on the list of states with the highest GDP in the Federation, and that was in 2010 -- facts and figures don't lie, and am pretty sure it's position will improve in the next official release. But i guess your bad belle hatred for the SouthWest and Yorubas has clouded your sense of reasoning. Smh. 8 Likes |

customized07: Pls, If I may ask What parameters are you going by/using to quantify the standard of living of the people in Ogun, relative to the rest of Nigeria? Does Aba, Onitsha or Nnewi look better or cleaner, or more advanced than Sango Otta or Ajuwon or Akute for example? 5 Likes |
Re: Ogun State - Nigeria's Emerging Industrial Capital by Nobody: 12:10am On May 20, 2015 |
scholes0: Apparently it did in 2007. The thing is there isn't reliable information on state GDPs. The NBS data is outdated, and inaccurate since it hasn't taken into account the rebasing of the wider Nigerian economy. If say, we use Renaissance capitals report of 2013 - the same one used by Osun state on it's government website to claim that Osun has the 7th largest economy in Nigeria- then Anambra has an economy of $8.9 billion (9th largest), after Imo state which has an economy of $9.1billion (8th largest), whereas Ogun has an economy of $4.2billion. Obviously this list is also dubious in it's accuracy, and can be found here:http://osun.gov.ng/2014/04/19/report-osun-7th-largest-economy-nigeria-renaissance-capital/ . The important thing is not to claim Ogun has a larger economy without solid stats to prove it, since the other side can also claim the same using a different set of stats.

Re: Ogun State - Nigeria's Emerging Industrial Capital by Nobody: 12:23am On May 20, 2015 |
OduaVanguard: I didn't outrightly reject anything... read again. However I doubt it's relevance since, like the NBS data, it gives information about the GDP of states prior to rebasing. *modified* I'm derailing this thread so I'm going to stop responding. |
Re: Ogun State - Nigeria's Emerging Industrial Capital by scholes0(m): 12:36am On May 20, 2015 |
AfricanGod2: lol, like you said, that list is dubious.... It claims Ekiti has a Higher GDP than Ogun, which is nothing but laughable. Ren Cap is not a Nigerian based company...so I can forgive their inaccuracies. I am quoting official figures from the Federal government. .... You can visit their Website here: http://services.gov.ng/states Official GDP of Southern Nigerian states: (2010) South-West Ogun: 10,470 Ondo: 8,414 Ekiti: 2,848 Lagos: 33,679 Osun: 7,280 Oyo: 16,121 Total: 78,812 South-East: Imo: 14,212 Abia: 8,687 Anambra: 6,764 Ebonyi: 2,732 Enugu: 4,396 Total: 36,791 South-South Edo: 11,888 Cross River: 9,292 Delta: 16,749 Bayelsa: 4,337 Rivers: 21,073 Akwa Ibom: 11,179 Total: 74,518 (Obviously this is mostly based on the Oil economy which is not very labor intensive, and not very reflective of the real situation on ground in the region) Obviously, like you said, these figures do not reflect the rebased economy, in which the percentage of oil in the Nigerian economy has dropped drastically and Services and Industry has increased. With these put into consideration, i think the figures for South Eastern and South Western states would have increased drastically in the New Nigerian economy, and most especially states like Lagos, Ogun Anambra, Oyo, which have 100% completely non-oil economies 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Ogun State - Nigeria's Emerging Industrial Capital by OduaVanguard: 12:43am On May 20, 2015 |
scholes0: This is the kind of reliable counter evidence/breakdown i was asking to see to counter the Osun govrnment's figures. Clearly it refutes their data and appears more credible. But like Afigod said, i think we may be derailing this thread with this back and forth exchanges. We are waiting for more eye-candy o op. 2 Likes |
