To kick off,I'd start by giving a brief overview of the land...in colonial Nigeria, the land consisted of these divisions viz
1]Aba
2]Abakaliki
3]Aboh
4]Afikpo
5]Ahoada
6]Andoni(Opobo*)
7]Asaba
8]Awgu(Ogu)
9]Awka(Oka)
10]Bende
11]Enyong(Arochukwu*)
12]Nsuka
13]Okigwe
14]Onitsha(Onicha)
15]Orlu
16]Owerri(Owere)
17]Udi
All these divisions, distributed among provinces that corresponds to the present SE/SS later gave rise to the states of Abia, Anambra, Anioma, Ebonyi, Enugwu, Imo & the upland aspect of Rivers state.
The people, numbering ~45M worldwide speak Igbo as their native language and also the language of the host community for those far from the homeland.

The land is divided culturally into 19 areas and these areas share variations of the same cultural values with moderate to significant influence from neighboring groups especially the Bini(Edoid); Igala(Yoroboid); Kalabari(Ijoid) & Ibibio(Mmoñoid).
The people are believers in a supreme being called Chukwu Abiama who dispenses his rule through deities called Arusi.
These cultural areas are
1]Abakalele
2]Aro
3]Etche
4]Ehugbo
5]Enuani
6]Idemmili
7]Igbene
8]Ika
9]Mbaise
10]Nsuka
11]Okigwe
12]Omaabala
13]Orlu
14]Owere
15]Ukwangwa
16]Ukwuani
17]Waawa(Udi)

As time goes by we'd dwell on these cultural areas and the local governments that make them up.
Stay tuned! smiley

ABAKALEKE

This is regarded as the Igbo Northeast. The term Abakaleke is gotten from two Izzi terms "Aba" and "Nkaleke" .they are also part of the people who form the present day Ebonyi North and central senatorial zones.the people are good craftsmen and great farmers who specialize in yams, rice and maize production.there are currently 8 LGs containing them in Ebonyi and they're
1] Abakaliki
2] Ebonyi
3] Ezza North
4] Ezza South
5] Ikwo
6] Ishielu
7] Izzi
8] Ohaukwu

Due to the British conquest of Igboland(1890-1920),their people are also scattered around 4 LGs of Benue namely Ado,Obi,Oju and Okpokwu LGs.

ARO

This cultural group made up people called the Aros, though having their capital at Arochukwu(spear of God) are widespread around Igbo and Ibibio lands, even to Ekoiland and the Cameroons.
The Aros were originally merchants from other parts of Igboland(some sources say Nri) who came into the cross river basin around 920AD.they engaged in series of battles with the Ibibios called the Aro-Ibibio wars till around 1142AD when they defeated the Ibibio forces and captured Arochukwu.
Having consolidated their power at Arochukwu by 1100AD,they spread out into other parts of Ibibio and Igboland forming colonies and dealing actively on slaves. These activities gave rise to the Aro confederacy(1500-1902) which was the largest trading network as of then and was also a military alliance. The military alliance was crushed in the Anglo-Aro wars by the British army which led to the dissolution of the confederacy in 1902.
The Aros are ruled by the EzeAro and the people are grouped into 19 villages.
