This has been going on in Kano for years. Government bans importation of textile materials through Nigerian ports but for some strange reasons the rules were lax up north and they ended up having the biggest textile market in Kano through same importation. Majority of textile traders in other parts of the country source from there , especially Ibadan (alakia)and Lagos. They should have done this years back, otherwise look the other way in other regions like they have done for years in Kano. |

Reselling or donating as some suggested here beats the aim of sanitizing the economy. It should be burnt that's how seized contraband goods are treated the world over! Inferior materials should not be allowed to circulate all in the name of helping the needy, if it were adulterated drugs or car parts would you all suggest it be donated? Simply because its a whooping sum to set ablaze? The constitution states that seized contraband goods should be burnt!! No matter the cost involved! let the law be reviewed first to allow some "pass" based on magnitude or relevance to the benefit of the society! Till then all must be burnt. 4 Likes |

We ve got to rethink this burn burn culture. We burn armed robbers in jungle justice. We burn gas resources in gas flaring We burn smuggled poultry products and rice Yet we are ravaged by poverty. How come we don't get to know the final treatment given to hard drugs, Igbo, coke etc intercepted from smugglers at the airports and on the roads? It is reasonable to burn smuggled goods if and only if they are expired drugs and food items that would naturally endanger the consumers like DOra did in the good old days of nafdac. Even if these smuggled textile products cost just N100, it has impacted negatively on the economy ab initio abi did the importers not access forex locally for the transactions with the additional pressure of such on our weakened value of the naira against the dollar? There is need to rethink this burn burn thing as it has yet again proven not to be having the desired effect of deterrence. |

If the customs were doing their job well, how could such textile materials worth billions of naira be smuggled into this country without their knowledge? I smell something fishy here. |

You guys say a lot of nonsense and u think you are making sense. Do u no what civilised countries do to contraband. I was watching a programme on tv. The one I watched, they burn contrabands seized by people at the airport. They don't even allow fake shoes and bags. There is a man there who specialises in distinguishing between fake materials and original. A Chinese man brought in leather LV belts. He said they were for his family. The patrol guy said how can your family need dozens of leather belt . Later they found out the Chinese man wanted to sell it. If u see forensic untop trying to distinguish between a fake and original LV belt. This particular border patrol was in Australia. Do u people not realise that China is spoiling the Nigerian market wiv fake products aided by Nigerians. Seems u have not seen fake China beads. Coral beads and the likes. Do u no we have China kind of Ankara, lace, tye and dye. This things are done right here in Nigeria why should China be Doing fake of it and importing it to Nigeria.. This people are spoiling our market. This are the people killing our youths indirectly. You are using China product made by Chinese people thereby developing their own economy and Someone here is talking of giving them to charity. No be only charity, na blessing! They should be burnt and both the foreigners and Nigerians involved should be paraded and sent to jail. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Nigeria and the habit of waste.. Why burn products worth 315 billion? almost 3 times the amount to be spent on the construction of the second Niger bridge? Instead of burning, why not fine the importers to a tune of like 100 billion and let's see how they will be able to sell the products profitably with a lot of competition from local producers.. 2 Likes |

Beremx:Abiiiiiiiiiiiiii. How come they want to burn the materials? Will they say that the were poisonous substance again that harm human beings? In fact, this government is something else. The NCS dully collected monies from these people but are now conniving with textile producers here who must have paid them to do what they are now singing. Go to the borders, the same frozen foods confiscated by these NCS officials which they claim to burn, 80% of them end up in their wife's shops. These officials are richer than a state in Nigeria. |
