N315b worth of textile! shocked shocked shocked smuggled into Nigeria and some blockheads want to waste it by burning it down!

Hmmmmmm! We really do need a total overhauling of public servants!

As an aside, I wonder why the media has not beamed it's light on this Nigerian Customs. If it were run by a SE/SS, haters like cramjones aka FFK would have written so many "takes" on it/him and deployed the PhD (pull him down) method on him. Now the one sided media is completely blind on the happenings in this very corrupt Customs.

One of our major problems here in Nigeria are the Nigerian customs and the Nigerian police force.

Abiiiiiiiiiiiiii. How come they want to burn the materials? Will they say that the were poisonous substance again that harm human beings? In fact, this government is something else. The NCS dully collected monies from these people but are now conniving with textile producers here who must have paid them to do what they are now singing.

Go to the borders, the same frozen foods confiscated by these NCS officials which they claim to burn, 80% of them end up in their wife's shops. These officials are richer than a state in Nigeria.
you're very correct. If you wanna buy cheap rice, vegetable oil and frozen chicken, you will get them in a custom wife's shop. They own big cold rooms that keep the frozen birds and they sell at cheaper price to attract buyers.

Dem plenty for my area.

In a country on the brink of bankruptcy where several states can't afford to pay there workers for months why should any reasonable individual suggest destruction of private investment worth 350 billion ... duties should be alloted to warehouses that are yet to pay custom duties while those with correct custom papers should be allowed to go on with their bussiness since our local fabric industry refuse to work despite GEJ massive investment into the sector ... for those chanting retribution they should remember that those living in glass house are not expected to throw stone...

The Comptroller.....how he came up with the total value...one warehouse had N4.2 m worth of material...therefore 75 warehouses would have 75 times N4.2m. Are all the warehouses the same size?...and more importantly contain the same quantity of material? No wonder he can't think of auctioning the seized material or making it available for use by the corpers, hospitals and such public institutions....all he can think aboit is burn burn burn because so and so did that in 1901.

had it been the contraband were drugs or food items then we should consider destroying, but clothing is mostly donated to less privileged in the developed world. that what they do to especially counterfeit designer clothes.

Instead of burning the textile materials, why not donate it to the less priviledged?
They should neither burn nor donate but auction them openly and transparently to the public with the condition they are not to be resold or traded in any markets. That should pay the salary of customs for several months

I think the best thing is just to give those seized materials back to the owner. I do not believe that there's no duties being paid for the goods. I think there has been some phillyphilly things going on between the NCS boss and the traders 'cos according to the traders union, they've been importing those materials for the past 15years.

What will destroying of these goods achieve? The money is already paid to china or dubai or usa, if we destroy, you lose the goods and money. It is about time we put appropriate tax on goods instead of banning.
Re: Tension In Kano As Seized N315b Textile Materials Await Burning by sunnyolads1(m): 1:55pm On Jun 07, 2015
It is a wickedness of highest order if NCS should burn those goods worth billions of naira,if at all it was brought into the country through govt unapproved way or method they should calculate the tax on it and duty on it and let the owners pay or better still, let the goods be auctioned back to them to generate revenue for govt as it applicable to seize vehicles. So NCS want Nigeria to be great and a conducive environment again by throwing many to unemployment and abject poverty after completely destroyed their means of lively hood. You are joking!

THOU SHALL NOT BURN....................;;;;;;;;;''''''''''''

This is an exposure of the corrrupt system we have in Nigeria. BURNING this contrabands at this time is just callous and at the PERILS of the northern state KANO --------- Can you spell a new front for BOKO HARAM!!!!!

Read the excerts from many interviews of our wise president on the root cause of fertile source of recruitment for insurgency we now face------- unemployment and restless youths. Now the life savings of their parents to go up in smokes.....Walahi this will be mistake!!! . The agents of misfortune in Nigerian customs & Co want to use this to derail this GMB /gov't focus on recovery in the heart of the north ....Please DO NOT TAKE THIS BAIT !!! .................

DO NOT BURN the contrabands but rather burn the corrupt custom officials who took the bribes over the yrs of GEJ administration to cripple our industries!! Set up a committee which involves the locals in the business /the importers and you will hear names and solutions by the people it has affected. If we had serious govt , making laws for industries to survive then who will need contrabands. We cant even get electricity to support the local guys in their factories so how can they be competititive How many of our leaders patronize the local fabrics? Read about Sankara of old Burkina Faso and support of local industries . Can we do the same starting with our leaders, some of who are hypocrites.

We need good laws applied and adhered to from the beginning not at the end and on poor Nigerians trying to make ends meet. It reminds me of selective application of Sharia laws to amputate poor guy who steals a goat and members of the Hous of assembly / HoR steal billions and wealth they cannot account for on their salaries. The poor again bears the brunt of bad set of corrupt practices..So they wisened up and joined insurgency.... Does Sharia corrrelate with birth of Boko Haram We need govt paid informants/ WHITSLE blower program at all level of federeal & state agencies vital to the economy to find the ROT in the system and get corrupt people out of the system and unclog the wheels of recovery. We cannot have the same people in place vital to our economy if we expect a change!!!

Our politicians have immunity, perpertual injunctions and the poor fools ( The MASSES) have their live savings go up in flames and their leaders laughing all the way to Dubai, UK , South African and Swissbanks!! How many of these leaders in last 6yrs can you say got the type of justice we want to unleash on the poor people of Kano ... No I am not from the North but I am a Red blooded Nigerian fed up with the ridicule in our system and corrupt dispensation of justice based on social class ... Fellow Nigerians our country needs us to speak with wisdom, temper justice with mercy and not hasty decisions that engulfs this new govt in flames adn into the ABYSS !!

Corruption eating deep in NCS! All they want to do is share it among themselves and get enriched, that's why a custom officer with less than 100k salary is living above his means cos of much wuru wuru at the boarder, thieves every where angry

What is expanding the size of those hips daily? Those hips are beginning to drive some senses into my head. Lol.

Beremx:

If that is done, the whole materials will find its way back to the Nigerian market. The main reason behind most social vices in this country is because of this kind of useless sentiment. There shouldn't be any sentiment in the law. Even if the goods is worth a billion dollars, it should be destroyed to serve as deterrent for next time. Their actions is one of the main reason why Nigerian Government is always broke coupled with the complete destruction of the local industries.
