President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In a statement signed by Haruna Imrana, Director of Communications for the Head of Service of the Federation, President Buhari said that the dissolving of the board is with immediate effect.

According to the statement, the directive to that effect was conveyed in a letter signed on Friday, June 26, 2015 by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Barr.Danladi Kifasi.

In the letter, President Buhari also expressed gratitude to members of the dissolved board for their services to the nation.

I don't find this surprising. It was always going to happen. I just hope he replaces them with the right team.

Not enough, NNPC needs to be disbanded. I have lost confidence in the Executives ability to efficiently run or structure the NNPC.

We need to wake up, go and check out STATOIL. What they have achieved in Norway is simply amazing.

The wind of change is blowing the smell of corruption away from the NNPC.

President Buhari's expertise in the oil industry will definitely guide the appointment of their successors. Competence and not ethnicity should be the watch-word.
