Afonja spotted.

I have spent my time educating Afonjas of Igbo communities in SS and MB so that when another civil war starts, they don't foolishly run into Igbo communities seeking for help thinking we are online and everything is propaganda and joke. Honestly two sensible yorubas have contacted me privately and thanked because they never thought such large Igbo communities existed in those communities outside SE. But the Afonjas among them will keep living in self denial until war starts...foolishly run into Igbo areas like Opobo, Igbanke(Edo), Ikwerre, Abi(Cross River) thinking they are not Igbos, that day they will be used for nkwobi and isi ewu.

You flat headed primitive people trying to drag us into your land locked biafraland, we shall always resist you. Even our unborn children will.

People who are confused about their origin with different accounts (isreal, sudan, uganda etc) can never rewrite our history. Keep dreaming of seeing the Ibanis in your biafraland.

Brother you're quite unscrupulous. The kingship tussle was due to the fact the king's Ijaw subjects wasn't to topple the Jaja family and ascend a throne that wasn't theirs for the taking because it was ab initio stated clearly that the kingship resides within the Jaja family. You portray Ijaw in bad light on this board.
See story tell that story to the illiterates people that will believe you, for the same opobo wey i from, every kingdom has a ruling house and everytime the stool is vacant, its subject to claims from every legitimate son of opobo, so keep your lies to yourselves and the rest of red mud kingdom

Okay. Jaja's family remains the ruling family and Opobo remains their personal estate and no one else's. EoD.

History has it that Jaja was captured during the slave raids in Igboland, he was sold by the Aros to slave merchants who latter sold him to merchants from the Oil River protectorates. Jaja's real name is Mbanaso Okwaraozurumbaa but was named Jubogha by Chief Iganipughuma Allison of Bonny, who bought him. He was later sold to Chief Alali, the head of the Opubo Annie Pepple Royal House.

Jaja was an astute business man , earning his way out of slavery at an early
age. He adopted behaviour patterns of the Ijaw culture.

The war of supremacy between the Manilla Pepple House and the Annie Pepple House led to the emergence of Jaja on the political scene .Coincidentally, both houses were led by characters of Igbo origins - Oko Jumbo of the Manilla House and Madu (after him Alali his son) of the Annie House.

Jaja succeeded Alali. Under Jaja's leadership, Annie Pepple House absorbed a number of Bonny's trade Houses until a dispute with the Manilla Pepple House led by Oko Jumbo forced Jaja to break away and found Opobo city-state in 1869.
Opobo dominate the region's lucrative palm oil trade, and was later home to fourteen of what were formerly Bonny's eighteen trade Houses.

The prosperity of Opobo attracted inhabitants of Bonny kingdom and others from far and near to settle in Opobo lands which had been in existence before Jaja's coming but made the place prosperous in trade, rich, influential and strong in war. His successes provocked the Pepple family to attack him in a bid to control the Palm Oil trade but were defeated severally.

Jaja is of Igbo descent and carried it everywhere he went but Bonny and Opobo were not Igbo speaking until the slave wars and later the trade in Palm Oil which helped to swell the population of settlers, adoption and corruption of the language of the settlers.

Igbo is more of linguistic identity than tribal identity though it has various distinct dialects. The denials of most who are Igbo is more political than linguistic. In pre-coloinial times they were all Igbos but the hijacking of the political system by some Igbo elites during colonial rule forced most of them to resort to their distinct tongues as their ethnic groups. The civil war and contemporary politicking made it even worse. But when it comes to defending their interests they run under the canopy of Igbo. Azubike, Chibuike, Chidi, Chioma, Chima, Chibueze, Nneka, Nnenna, Nnenda, Worgu, Nwogu, Nworgu, Nwagbara, Wabara, Uloma, Unoma, Emeke, Omeke, Emeka, Ubani, Nwankwo, Wankwo, Nwanosike, Wanosike, Nwuju, wuju, Nwanjoku, Wanjoku, Nwaike, Nwike, Wike, Nwankpa, Wankpa, Wakpa are all Igbo names regardless of modern spellings as some represent micro identity. Ade, Olu, Soji, Tunde, Wande, Ola, etc are Yoruba names though used by Itsekiris and Edos

I don't blame this igbo bastards its as a result of inferiority complex to the great Niger Delta, God has blessed us bountifully with resources both natural and human, thats why igbos are moving away from the east(aka red mud kingdom) to find greener pastures down south, osu is really the best term to describe these igbos rejected by themselves and Nigeria as a whole

This forum is for education and not for insults. i doubt ur identity, no rivers man or woman will descend so low. they may not agree on all fronts but their relationship is stronger than you imagine. Igbos rely on Ijaws, ogonis, Ibibos, Efiks, Annags as allies and vice versa. marrIages between them is common and will continue forever.

The Igbo land you sought to portray as been poor and backward aint true. you obviously dont know Igboland. Yes roads especially federal roads are an apology, yes there are manifest absence of infrastructure but indigeneous efforts at industrialization are in top gear. Aba though choatic tells the story of a hard working people, Onitsha, Nnewi and Akwa are also there. There are also deposites of oil and gas in Igboland. Above all, the Igbos are immuned to insults they will continue to push the frontiers of development. Igbo presidency is not the answer to the problems of the igbos but unity of purpose. please spend your energy to positively grow your community.

Your story has so many flaws Jaja was sold by his people because he had a broken tooth(a taboo to igbos) he was adopted and acculturated in ibani ijaw customs, and in that way lost any foreign connections he took an ijaw name(jubo jubogha) the ubani name you mentioned is an adulteration of the word ibani, ibani apu have always traded igbo slaves and palm oil with the aminadokiari(ndoki) thats why there are ijaw towns and families in abia state

Am struggling to understand the essence of this thread because an o level history student knows the events surrounding Jaja. Please do your research properly. Please hunt for ethnographic data at the nearest archives and you will be properly informed. You can avail yourself of the interviews he granted the British

Jaja was caught and sold as a slave. That Jaja traced his root is enough for you to know that he was not a toddler when he was sold. He Jaja gave accurate accounts of his name, his origin and how he arrived Bonny. Ndoki's are Igbos. Sorry, there no Ijaw settlements in Abia State. I would also want to know if you are Ijaw or an Opobo man

Ndoki(aminadokiari) are Ijaws, akirika, okoloma, oruama, azuogu, osobie these names are ijaw just like the families of ubani, opusunju, uranta and epelle etc

i repeat consult the archives. Ndokis of Ukwa land aint Ijaws their brothers are the Asa people. Aminadokiari is your own name for Ndoki just like the Igbos have names for riverine people but they are not Ijaws infact ijaws never came that close the people that came close are peoples' from Akwa Ibom. aminadokiari is how the ndoki name came about and they dont see themselves as Asa, they reject that claim vehemently, mr consult your archives or oracles for the meanings of those names and places or claim they dont exist, ubani is different from uba ani. This is an idiotic analogy. The people of Opobo (Opu Obu) speak Igbo without ever leaving Opobo. Most Igbo people can only speak Yoruba if they had lived in Yoruba land.
