I studied Electrical/Electronics and repair electronics back in those days including TV and still was never excommunicated nor was my father who is a Pastor then.

Secondly, I can't validate nor dismissed your report on Bakare's experience. However, I don't take my GS, Pastor Kumuyi as Jesus Christ but calling TV "devil box" is euphemism for what the available stations transmit at that time which is filled with intermittent pornographic advertisements.

Remember, there were no dedicated stations as we have today.

But in all, there was never a time, Deeper Life explicitly condemned Television viewers to hell rather there was a serious campaign within the church leadership to discourage the workers from the rampant exposure to pornography in the programmes.

If your hand will lead you to sin and to hell fire, Jesus recommends cutting it off, though all persons are not the same.
