The general stereotype about Igbo guys where I come from is that they are hardworking. Its quite unusual to see an Igbo man who would let his family suffer and do nothing about it. As for the ladies they are known for being industrious. |

Funny thread, stereotypes indeed! There's beauty in diversity obviously. This topic is just something to laugh over and not to take to heart. @ OdenigboAroli, whatever made you think that Anambrarians are superior That's why other tribes keep laughing at us over our 'disunity' and boastful attitude. At least pretend to be proud of your Igbo- ness first before shoving your heaven-made Anambra down our throats. Ndi b'anyi, ekene m unu.... 3 Likes 1 Share |

OdenigboAroli: My dear I totally understand what you are saying but it is even unfortunate that u don't know that we anambra people do not speak the same ...we have different dialects Some sound like IMO eg those from ihiala axis some sound okigwe eg those from uga , amichi and orsumenyi side while some sound aro like those from ajalli and oko axis Which one come be your own sweet anambra Bros rest let anyone speak any type of Igbo ..we anambra people seff ana aguko Kedu ife na eme anyi ...ana ede anambra na iru? Re: Igbo Stereotypes by OdenigboAroli(m): 4:05pm On Sep 26, 2015 |
tonychristopher: I know the Orlu and Ihiala area more than you think. And yes they are a mixture of Northern Imo dialect and central Anambra with some exclusive internal items but that's not the issue. My issue is with Igbo Izugbe. It is corrupting our original lects. I will like every Igbo to write in their own dialects that way we can learn other people's tongue with losing our own. Today,Odumchi writes in Aro and I in Idenmili tongue yet we communicate well without losing our original tongue. You don't create new language like the white man did with Izugbe they form by them selves. What you hear in Onicha,Obosi,Nkpor and Ogbaru is a combination of dialects from the original inhabitants of these places. Stop trying to write what people can understand, rather let them ask and learn your dialect. And don't forget that a lot of these groups in Orsu,Orlu and Okigwe migrated from Anambra, hence the similarities. 1 Like |

OdenigboAroli: My brother, asides the constant knack for bragging about superiority and nobility, praytell how does all you wrote up there correlate with the simple explanation given to @Gurgle about how Ebonyi was carved out from mostly Enugu and not Imo? We are all proud of our heritage but it doesnt make other groups less human. As for change, it is constant. No language or culture remains in its truest form. Enculturation and acculturaton must always occur. Even medieval contemporary English language has been replaced by modern English and even that too would someday be replaced by current trends in sms chatting techniques and all what not. Sometimes it is from these corruptions of languages and cultures that new dialects and variations thereof spring off. I would worry more about the preservation of the language and not its corruption. The latter is inevitable, unless society devices a means of severing interaction with other groups. What you know today as your Omambala dialect is probably a corruption of its first form forged through time. Some languages have gone extinct e.g Aramaic and our duty should be to preserve the Igbo language and culture the best we can, but note that there must always be external imfluences. 5 Likes |

Gurgle: I am by no means an authourity in Igbo history, but I will give you my little opinion from some of the researches conducted by scholars in the field. The etymology of the word Igbo is still subject to debate. But it has been established that it has been used to ascribe identity to folks east of the Niger before the advent of the Europeans. Whereas Igbo consciousness may have been enhanced and brought to fore by the balkanization of the bight of Biafra and the entire Niger area by the Europeans, there are schools of thought that suggest the notion has been there for a long time coming albeit in its subtlety. The Igbo history is an interesting one and I dont know why it is not incorporated into our primary and secondary school curriculum beyond introductory classes which barely scratch the surface, yet we are subjected to Roman, british and the Ottoman empire studies when we have enough of our own to deal with. That is hypocrisy and short sightedness on the part of our government. |

tonychristopher: My guy, its the truth nah! Even yoruba and hausa languages have not retained their innocence as they have been influenced by Benin, ife, kanuri and fulani patterns over the centuries. It is a normal process. It would be foolhardy to think one can retain anything in its purest form over long periods. Even stories change from narrator to narrator, with the main message remaining intact most times while details would naturally vary. |

DocAdray:well said.....The Anambra man factor is actually a cause of disunity over the igbo race...they dont know wen and where to brag.sometimes they do it unconsciously.i doubt if igbo will be one again bc they have dashed the unity of igbos by their mere speculations of superiority..is quite unhealthy and thats why other tribes despise the igbo...God help us all 1 Like |

Ihuomadinihu:thats the problem with igbo and thats why they cant be any unity..Anambrarians keep on bragging about everything....what i have noticed is that most Anambrarians that brag are actually the ones who have little or nothing to contribute and will always hide their inferiority complex on their clan..thats so uncalled for.thats why other tribes keep mocking the igbo bc of this silly attitude..is time to change 2 Likes 1 Share |

murphyibiam15: What a full load of crap! If I brag about my heritage what did it take away from you if not that you are simply insecure and paranoid. Americans openly brag about their nation and accomplishments yet ,it doesn't make what they boast of lies. And this Igbo unity crap is stupid ,today I still see people calling Anambrarians NDI OGWU EGO AND ILLITERATES. So,take your emotions and shove it down your throat. If my Omanbala pride offends you nigga, jee kwuo udo. I don't take prisoners; The failure of Igboland to develop has no correlation with the unity of her people. If the right man is chosen he will give you what you want. People need to chill the ffuck out what this redundant and over emphasised Igbo bull crap. People mock you not because you aren't united but rather for the failure of your leaders starting with the war to voting people like T.A Orji and Rochas Okorocha who are like logs of wood. I intentionally didn't mention Imo because I know how they get but I am sure you are happy with reading the tongue lashing cum stereotypes listed of the Omanbalas. If I haven't insulted your people you have no cause to get offended with my giving. |

It's your life and you live it the way you want...Stop bothering about how other people live their live,as long as they haven't offended you. You are here tearing yourselves apart over what somebody who doesn't know you think about themselves. You want me to live my life according to your standards...see me see wahala ooo. Open a thread and shout Abia to high heavens and I wont mind , as long as you haven't offended my people. |

OdenigboAroli: the truth though is that a lot of anambra guys castigate other Igbos. its something I have witnessed countless times. well, those who did it before me will never forget how I returned the favour bountifully to them. dude, boast all you want, but don't directly or indirectly castigate other IGBOS, cos its not healthy for Igbo unity. mind you, I respect anambra guys. 1 Like |

SonOfEl: It is this open disdain and contempt some of our Igbo brothers show for others thus regarding themselves superior to others that really beats me. Strutting around like the rest of the world should bow at their feet, when in reality, they are just low-lifers with acute inferiority complex they'd rather not let you come close lest you noticed it. It is really a waste of time and intelligence trying to school people who behave like that. Just ignore them and see how it works like charm. 3 Likes |
