That Rev. Father should be charged to a labour Court for exploitation, wrongful dismissal and general damages and made to pay backlog salaries of a minimum of #50,000 for a duration of Nine years, to this woman.

Just go to the same school and check how much they charge parents as School fees!

Just like father Mathew Kukah, Bishop Oleedepo (Oyedepo), Pastor Ayo "Bling-Bling: Oritshejafor, ....all these Religious criminals are begnining to scare me!

The school in question are wicked if at all they received such letter they would have at least pity her going by what she experience. Beyond being 'bad or good' is being right or wrong.

Employment in Nigeria is basically a matter of law and contract.
what does the contract of employment state about maternity leave and conditions of being entitled to it?
what does it say about disengagement and severance package in circumstances as hers?

we can only say that the action of the school authority is wrong or right after considering the above.

These are different from the social menace called 'under employment' which we expect this government to tackle head on.
someone that is earning less than 18,000 cannot be said to be even employed at all.

Let us not limit this issue of unemployment/underemployment to this particular case but rise and demand that national minimum wage be implemented across all sectors whether private or public.

The social media should be a medium of positive social change.

We shld blame the government. First public school teachers are not paid living wage then how will private ones pay? In countries like Singapore, Philippines e.t.c., government teachers earn good salaries which at the long run boast the morals of teachers and also draws brightest graduates to the teaching profession. At the end, the country is well position intellectually, economically and otherwise. Till then Nigeria will continue to crawl.

Until we hear from d school authority i cant pass any judgement .for d 10k salary i think its somehow low bt she myt also be a non academics staff and beside its a primary school

So the Director travelled abroad to spend his leave but a pregnant mother with complications was sacked for over staying her leave even after informing the school..

I cant blame you for being so ignorant, but for priests their vacation money comes from the parish they lead, rather than the side business the church has, as a matter of fact they do not get anything from the side business, churches build schools, hospitals, etc to generate money in sponoring other things rather than paying the priest in charge. For an organization like that, you think say them send all this things wey u da here da talk? U re just wasting your time, do not go and look for how to make your own money

1. Was there any approval for the maternity leave?
2. Was there any approval for an extension of leave?
3. What was the condition of service for her job? This includes severance package, termination clause, pension etc
4. Where is the husband?
5. A salary of N10,000 is broken down as follows;

- Basic Salary : N1,250 per month
- Housing allowance: N2,500 per month
- Transport allowance: N2,500 per month
- Feeding : N2,500 per month
- Pension: N1,500 per month
- PAYE: N1,500 per month

I support the decision of the management however, on compassionate grounds, i think she should be re-instated or offered jobs elsewhere by the PTA. There is no need for this uproar as the last government created most of the difficulties we are facing today.

Anyway, is there any account we can contribute peter's pence to support the child

So ur parents earn N10,000 per month. ?

No wonder, poverty has deadened ur conscience. ..

I like your conclusion, it will not be fair to judge based on the complainant's report only. The school management might be guilty afterall but not until their own claim was made.

Problem is...teachers in private schools are not members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, the Secondary School teachers union, or even at university level...ASUU.

That's why private schools...not all of them...can get away with paying such low salaries to their teachers.No union to fight for their rights.

But it is very wrong. In US, minimum wage covers both, government, corporate and private sector. If you are caught, you might go to jail. This why the rich are getting richer and poor getting poorer here.

I'm surprised at how we are always quick to condemn or praise things we do not have the details of. This woman was sacked AFTER SHE OVERSTAYED HER MATERNITY LEAVE. The issue of how long she overstayed the leave was carefully left out of the report. Please consider the facts. 1. The school is privately owned 2. The woman went on presumably paid maternity leave collecting money from the school during the leave, even though she wasn't working. Presumably for 3 months. 3. She decided to extend this three months to x months for whatever reasons. I think the school has a right to carefully consider her case and see if her absence was justified. I think we need to get ALL THE FACTS before we condemn anyone. And in case it matters, I'm proudly Muslim.
