Funny!! If an Umuohi woman is maltreated a phyton appears in the house, the igbos better warn their eke not to appear in a Lagos compound, I swear it will be killed and be served as pepper soup. So primitive set of people going everywhere to make noise how they developed Lagos, Abuja and Kano while they lives with phytons in their village.

What have you achieved for yourself in lagos?
As a yoruba guy, what part of lagos economy have you manipulated to your advantage?

Such culture is found only in Amambra state. In my igbo community, we murder such evil creatures... #war_mood

Western stooge, why insult this beautiful culture
just because you don't like it. Its a common theme
with people who lack identity to insult others,

I schooled in Anambra state and i know that this nonsense culture is VERY pronounced there.
Go to a place like NIBO or NISE in Awka south LGA, they practice same culture.
The funny thing is that they are also scared of going close to eke when they see one.
I once challenged a native of the town to touch it if it doesn't bite.
My fellow students once killed a very giant eke at night and NO shit happened.

I am from Abia state and we kill anything called snake. They are evil.
well, I schooled in okija where we saw these snakes a lot.

One time we were outside the school gates, along the road one was lying down and then one of the guys carried it with his bare hand into the school and the snake did nothing. I dont know what he did with the snake though.

I am from ihiala but not from the said community but in my own community it is the same.you do not kill it.
When I traveled back in January as my bro and I were coming out from our extended family home on top of our bike we saw snake marks on the ground and then my bro said a snake just passed and lo and behold when we turned our backs we saw the snake crossing the road and here the thing people were just passing by without even doing anything like as if the snake was a human going about its own business.
It crossed the entire road and people would just look at it and move on like it was a normal way of life.
My bro even wanted to go and take a closer look but since he is well accustomed to the village and me am a city boy I was like what in the world are you trying to do?
There is even a snake market of sort and a shrine for it.

Interesting. smiley

Go to Nembe & Brass town in Bayelsa state, You'll see Python moving freely on the streets, you dare not kill them because its their god. Houses are even built for them.

How come I never witnessed this during my five years stay at Madonna, Okija?

The only weird thing I witnessed was when we found one old woman sitting on the high school fence behind our hostel one night in 2007.
She claimed to be a messenger from the goddess of Okija river and warned us that our pee used to find its way to the river and the goddess was angry.
From that day till I left I stopped peeing in that gutter.

LMFAO!!!!!
The fear of okija river godess is the be beginning of wisdom.

this is superstition.
i won't agree with ur opinion, here in ondo state, my former gateman from the east had a quarel with his wife and a python came visiting. He killed the python and ate, beleiving nothing would happen bcuz he's not in his native land. The wife refused to eat from the forbidden meat. In short time an undiagonizable sickness started and the gateman was taken to his village where he passed away. So i won't believe its superstition.

Based on two experiences I had in Nnewi in 2008 - 2009, I daresay that Nnewi people (or at least some of them) no longer take this tradition serious.

Which is very interesting because the Igbo groups who hold the python sacred also associate them with water (river) deities, either Idemmili (a river that runs through Anambra) or Njaba (a river that runs through Imo).

Thus you hear the python referred to as either Eke Idemmili or Eke Njaba depending on the locale.
