Nigeria midfielder, John Ogu showed his romantic side at the weekend as he proposed to his fiancée Chiugo Akaolisa right on the pitch after a game involving his Israeli club Hapoel Beer Sheva and Maccabi Peta Tikva on Saturday.

The hosts won 5-2 but it was the marital victory for the footballer that will be the talk of the city for a long time because immediately after the final whistle, Ogu committed himself to his beautiful girlfriend.

The happy bride-to-be, gushing with joy at the sight of her beau on one knee with a diamond-encrusted ring in tow surrounded by his colleagues, happily hugged the midfielder as they kissed.

Ogu then posted photos of the event on Twitter with the words: “Thank you great God. Great result tonight and above all she said YES!!!!!”

In a video which he later shared on Twitter, the midfielder is seen walking onto the pitch after the game with fiancée Chiugo before the stadium’s light is dimmed and a short video streamed on the public display of the player on his knees with the words “Will you marry me?” writ large.

When the lights return, Ogu is on his knees ring in hand as the surprised but happy Chiugo hugs him in acceptance. While Ogu earns his living as a central midfielder, Chiugo is a blogger and entrepreneur by day and a budding novelist by night.
