No Igwe of orlu was recognized as a first Class chief o,your source is incorrect.The 8 First Class Chiefs in old Eastern Region as recognized in the constitution of 1963 or so, are;
Obi of Onitsha,Obong of Calabar,EzeAro of Arochukwu,Amanyanbo of Bonny,Amanyanbo of Opobo,Obi of Oguta and Amanyanbo of Abonema.
Theres no Orlu there.Even Eze Nri wasnt recognized because hes more of a priest than a King.Oguta and Onitsha got their civilization from Great Benin, while Arochukwu got its civilization from Old Calabar-thats why they had organized kingdoms.
What do you know! The royalty of Orlu is far older than even that of Opobo, Oguta and Abonnema you mentioned. Show me that constitution where you read that the Igwe of Orlu wasn't a First Class King and I'll show you a link where he was listed.

MY FRIEND, STOP DISPLAYING CRASS ST**PIDITY HERE.
nobody is saying that he's not the most well-known igbo chief in the minds of nigerians.
any non - igbo will mention his name first before others..
don't compare him with emir of kano or ooni etc.
Those regions have always had kings, rulers etc......that's why the europeans loved them.....they were easier for them to govern.
Igbos never had kings....That's why Onitsha has never claimed to be igbo....they claim allegiance to the Oba of Benin.
Get your facts right pls.
Most of you misunderstand this concept of Igbo enweghi eze. What is means is that Igbos don't have absolute rulers whose single words become laws. We had leaders in various capacities but no absolute kings. Even the Obi of Onitsha or the Obi of Agbor doesn't have such powers as the Oba of Benin. Yes both kings got their stool through the inspiration of the Benin monarchy but because of the nature of Igbos they can never wield such powers as the Oba. Even the Eze Nri with his sacredness was not seen as a representatives of God on earth. This doesn't take away the fact that the Onitsha and Agbor people revere their kings more than how other Igbos value theirs.

Point of correction....there is nothing like '' greatest king in igboland, and custodian of igbo culture''.
He is the Obi of ONITSHA and not of the whole igbo.
We have a saying....'' Igbo enwegh eze ''.....have u heard it before.
Pls don't mislead others.
The pics are fine...i agree.

The Obi is a great and refined ruler
of his people. Onitsha people trace
their origin to Benin.Read Ziks
Oddysey. They call others Nwa onyigbo
meaning son of Igbos. They are
geopolitical Igbos rather than
cultural Igbos. Therfore the Igwe
can be chairman but not custodian
of Igbo culture. He is a great
geopolitical assert of Igbos world
wide.
