Hello Oga Skimanski, Really couldn't help but notice the neatness of the casting of the lintel and pillars A friend just finished his and i noticed some "errors" The pillars weren't "flushed" to the walls post casting. Don't know if it was the coarseness of the mixture or a failed formwork. Wasn't really neat, could see the granite in the pillars and lintel post casting Could you help throw some insights on the above observations Lastly, what's the mix ratio you used. He used 1:2:4. Foundation was inverted "T" similar to this. Regards, Basit |

cooldudeng: The Issue of untidy Casting outcome is an issue faced all the time and everywhere. Experience is the only way to go. There are a lot of factors that might have caused yours which they probably didnt advise you against. Read below to tell me exactly what you think Might have caused yours so as to help you in Future 1- The wood used in boarding your pillars might have been some of the old wood you used in your foundation works. Most times people think its better to save cost by reusing it for pillars, but the truth is you can buy fresh wood for pillars and lintel and keep the old one for Deck, which you can add the new ones to it, because they all will be usefull during deck, so at the end non of them is wasted. 2- The Carpenters Might not have braced the form work properly. This happens due to lack of attention to details on the hand of the form men, and also when the pay is little. many times you might see the form work not braced well with your lay man eyes, but these guys have a way of convincing you that its braced properly, only for you to see at the end that your concrete works have been messed up due to what you saw and the so called professional didn't see. 3- Lack of supervision during casting doesn't help the situation, because the guys might have not mixed the concrete properly also with the right quantity of water, and poured into the casement anyhow. The bottom line is these untidy concrete cast doesn't necessarily have any structural effect, but what is worth doing is worth doing well, and also it makes for easy Rendering which reduces your overall expenditure. Mine is 1:2:3. but 1:2:4 is also good. 2 Likes |

Thanks. You really nailed it! Wood used were all new. I couldn't agree more that the carpenter did't do a good job with the bracing. He, however, blamed it on the wood supplied. Claiming it was wet wood even though he was on site and claimed it was good wood at the point of supply I also agree with you that the concrete weren't well mixed. Visited during the final stages and it was obvious that they weren't doing a good job during mixing. Again, they blamed it on the mix ratio advised, that 1.2.4 made it more coarse. Granite used was 3/4 down. He's kind of job doesn't allow for much supervision, i guess he's kinda guilty there. However, should't one be able to engage "professionals" and go to sleep 4 Likes |

ice4u999: This Building is sitting on a 120ft by 57ft land, which is lesser than a 120 x 60ft land, meaning yes. |
