Einstein's relativity is not yet fully reconciled with the law of gravity. Again, the Geologic time scale states that the modern man was among the last to come into existence so the earliest scientists had to study back over 13 billion years to establish the origin of the earth. Can u even start to imagine how inaccurate their facts would have been That's why we stick to the most reasonable theory until a superior one emerges.

I like the way you reason though....every atheist and agnostic claim to have a free mind but every intelligent person need to broaden his/her mind to accommodate the uncertainty. Knowledge is too vast.

I believe you've said it all. It's actually because of the astronomical size of the universe that questions about our existence started. We may not know when mankind started asking but let's say it started from when Copernicus proposed that it's the sun rather than the earth that is the center of our solar system.

You are a scientist and you know how much the rebellion of great people like Galileo and Newton against the church has helped our development. If everyone had shut up and taken everything in the holy books hook line and sinker, I and you will probably never interact even if we lived a thousand years each.

Now why am I concerned about which God or which book is relevant or why we must follow science instead of religion? What is my business in what other people believe in or don't believe in?

Believe it or not, what other people believe in has started being of great concern to everyone. For instance, that Shekau believes he is going to heaven to marry 70 virgins is not my business. But if he insists on bombing innocent people to achieve that, then it's not Shekau's business any more. It's OUR business. And how do we stop Shekau? We proscribe the religion that has warped his mind.

Other religions have the same problem of coercion, blackmail and threats. It's not healthy. My argument is that the power behind the religions is not different from the power of the sun's radiation. After all, Pharaoh Akhenaten that started the worship of a God above all things said that power comes from the sun. (Moses was his high priest.)

Back home here in Africa the notion that everything is the will of God has stopped us from developing. During my service year in northern Borno, villagers refused us to immunize their children against polio. They said their religion forbids it. That's Africa.

Politicians steal billions and you think it is for them alone. You'll never believe the multitude of relatives and followers depending on them. Nobody in Nigeria wants to work. The northerners see their politicians and call them Alhaji and eat their crumbs. When you ask them they tell you Allah had willed that the Alhaji will be rich. An okada man will ply the streets of Maiduguri at break neck speed crashes and dies. He is taken to the burial ground and within minutes he is buried and another okada man will still go at even more hellish speed. When you caution them they tell you Allah has written the day everyone will die. That's the danger of religion.

Let me rest my case here by reminding you that it's not the power behind the universe that is my problem. It's the claim of the religions that I have issues with.
