I always laugh at threads like this where the op feels the invention of words by Nigerians should not see the light of the day perhaps because it is Nigerian? And nothing good can come from us? Yet the Hot boys(Lil Wayne,Birdman,Juvenile and co) can invent bling bling, southafricans can invent kraal from their dutch/"boerish" tongue and other word inventions that are been added to the English lexicons frequently (especially the techies own!!!) But Nigerians cannot invent theirs? What is the meaning of dab?the expression itself is what I do when I sneeze yet some no chains/migos peeps can turn it to a lingo that would soon be accepted in the English lexicon? 1 Like 2 Shares |

Op that one na ur headache. I go de speak English anyway I feel comfortable as far as my fellow 9ja man flows with me. Go to China, India, some European and American countries, even in US, they don't bother themselves whether their English is correct or not. But here we are killing ourselves because of a foreign language. Abeg Park one side joor. 1 Like |

This is cool; I had never heard of these Nigerian words, with the exception of "opportuned" - I've seen that on the internet. Every country has its regional linguistic variations. In the Western world, we all know about the differences between American and Australian English, but we don't often get to hear how English is spoken in non-Western places. Is there much influence of native Nigerian words on Nigerian English? |
