The recent activities of Fulani cattle rearers in the South-East obviously threaten the life and existence of those living within their areas of grazing, especially in the rural areas.

It is not in doubt that there is hardly any community in the Igbo land where you will not find Fulani herdsmen. What is however most disturbing to farmers and land owners is the way they forcefully colonize, kill, maim and allow their cattle to destroy farm crops wherever they set their feet. They have sadly transformed themselves into landlords.

Just last month the people of Ukwulu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State decried the invasion of their farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.

The stories trailing the rampage of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle in Igbo land are therefore as ugly as they are most discomforting.

We need to do something about this situation before it gets out of hands. One would wonder what the situation would have been if the citizens had decided to take the law into their hands during the incident.

We need to do something now to stop this senseless killing and destruction. Ndigbo have been pressed to the wall.

The most worrisome part of the whole story is that the PDP Senators from the South-East have not done much to address these ugly incidences.

The basic responsibility of a Senator is to protect the people of his or her constituents. But unfortunately Senator from Igbo land are just like spectators and observers in National Assembly.

How I wish Chief Sir Dr. Victor Umeh is already in the Red Chamber. He is a man who will represent Anambra Central and Ndigbo the best. His fearless, bold and courageous personality will make his voice heard at the Senate.
