Thanks bro.

No! A reader is otherwise called an associate professor. It is the last rank before becoming a professor. However, once a lecturer's professorial status is confirmed, it is usually backdated to take effect from the day s/he became an associate professor (reader).

Becoming a professor after obtaining a PhD is dependent on a lecturer's rank at the time and the school's promotion policies. Some schools (UDUS, for example, if s/he were an LI before the PhD) promote a lecturer to a senior lecturer status immediately after obtaining a PhD, this means he'd have six years waiting period before becoming professor (3 as a senior lecturer and 3 as a reader). On the other hand, one could serve a minimum of a 4-year waiting period and apply for professorship straight (skipping the readership stage)

In schools where accelerated promotion is still practised, a fresh PhD (usually a senior lecturer) could be promoted to a professor in just 3 years.

I hope I'm of help, brother

sure, you have.

Please, What does LI mean?
And again Sir, I saw the list of new post graduate students in my school, in some, they wrote (M.phil), in some, they wrote(M.phil/Ph.D conversion), and in some they wrote, (M.phil/ph.D protocol). Please, explain Sir.

LI stands for lecturer 1.

M.Phil is for candidates who are studying for a master of philosophy (an upgrade from an MSc but a step below a PhD). M.Phil/PhD protocol is for candidates who are studying for an MPhil leading to a PhD (due to not completely meeting up the admission requirements such as 4.00 CGPA) in the same field as their MSc. However, MPhil/PhD conversion is for candidates that are switching their area of specialisation.

Thanks bro

Did I offend you darling? grin grin grin

No need to get mad sweetheart, if you attended a good University and not that animal farm masquerading as a university, you would have realized that "MadCow" is my UserID or Moniker and not my name and secondly that you don't need to argue with me but rather 'debate' with me.

But it's alright, your beauty would get you through life just fine so you don't have to bother about brains.. cool

yea. professor on paper. Theory professors, NO PRACTICAL!
Most Nigerians can write about something but cannot produce them in the lab.

Professor of chemical engineering? when it's time to separate kerosene and petrol from crude oil, they call Chinese small boy with OND to come do it, and become their master!

Most Nigerians go to school but school does not go through them!

Nigeria: country of educated\illiterates!

That is the problem my friend... We pay too much attention to titles, we want to back about paper qualifications without knowing or learning anything.

Nigeria professors are. Not that productive and the school system only trained people that will turn out for examination.

China is doing well because of their level of devotion to learning and they have been able to build product to solve human basic problem.

I learned much after school through Internet tutorial videos than in school.
