Niksie:

Please is dis for lagos airport port health? I was going to ask if it's right inside airport building. Then do u mean they work 24/7 which Includes weekends. Thanks

Hmm, i really doubt that o. Most activities/businesses within the airport close by 10pm. To be on a safe side, you should probably go a day before.

Sorry for the late response. I think they work 24/7 because the time I went there, it was to get my yellow fever shot/card before an Air France flight which was at night. I don't think they'll attend to you on a day you're not flying. If you can, you should stop by there during the day and ask them. I also just asked my husband and he says port health has to be open as long as flights are leaving and landing.

KayLayChi:

Thanks alot.
Are they opened all day, my flight is for 11:50pm, will get to the airport for 10pm cos I will check in online.
Will the port health be opened by almost midnight.

Please has anyone used port health at about 11pm?

Yes, I'm talking about Lagos. The office is one one of the floors under departures. Last time I went there, it was before a late flight on a Sunday so yes they work weekends.

Good day Mamas and Papas,
So I arrived Houston yesterday through Atlanta by Delta Airlines at 36+ weeks. No adequate leg space on board Delta (this is something to consider when chosing a flihht) but the flying time was 11.43mins from so it wasn't so tiring.
At Atl POE, it was almost like a joke cos I didn't spend upto 5 mins with the officer. I even thought they are not the real CBP officials I ve read about so much here. Long story short. Interview went thus :
Me:good morning (we arrived US 5.20am)
Officer:morning, why are here
Me:To have my baby
Officer :looked shocked like its not enough reason to travel all the way. Lol.
Me: Taken aback. All I crammed to say flew off my head. I even asked him what He meant by 'why'. How stupid of me! I collect myself and answered as calmly as I could. Well I had some complications with my second pregnancy and I cos am approaching 40, pregnancies tend to be more difficult. I blabbed the rest. Can't remember all.
Officer : Nods his head. How much do you have in currency
Me: None. Just cards of up to 11400 dollars
Officer : place your fingers. Stamps till March 2017. Good luck.
That was it. Went to baggage claim. Carried my bags with dryfish, knorr cubes, stockfish, ugba, pap etc. No more checks and here I am resting in my room in Houston.

A special Thank you to all of you who have amswered my questions here. You don't know how God has used you to prepare me on this journey. He alone will bless you all. Waiting for another miracle in easy labour an delivery. Thanks all.

Hello house, please I need advise on something. I had my baby on the 31st of august at methodist sugarland. On the 1st they did the juandice test and said his bilubrin was high and that they will transfer him to another hospital. Now he was transferred that same first around 2pm after various plead on them to obeserve him since its jaundice. Now they have given us a bill of 2841.50 usd for spending 7 hrs in their nciu. They said they didn't have a level 2 nciu which is what they said he needed. How they arrived at this outrageous bill I don't know. We have requested for a breakdown, they said they won't give us as international patient. We are still battling with the hosppital the reffered us to with their own bills. Please can anyone advise us on how to go about this with methodist.

Sorry abt your bills, who was your baby's pediatrician? If the hospital gives you a pediatrician guess it from Texas children. Bills from specialist of Texas children are expensive.
Try and visit the billing department ask after Sarah, guess she still heads that department, explain and beg her to get the best discount on your bill. Also tell her you are on a package with the hospital.Hope this helps you.

Hello Nairalanders.
Pls I need information about western union or moneygram. What's the minimum amount I can send? I also understand that the rates are different across banks, which banks have the most reasonable rates?
Thanks for your help.

Methodist hospital and their bills,..I had my baby on the 11th of Aug... He spent 4 days in Nicu for Jaundice and they charged us 13500 for just jaundice treatment ..lol.. Meanwhile in 2014 when I had my son in oakbend, he was in NICU for 2days jaundice things too and we were charged 850... it's so funny how methodist gather their liver to dash pple bill. Texas children also sent Bill of 1900 as per pediatrician that took care of the baby's treatment in NICU... it is well with them. Nonsense

I used Methodist hospital. Heard gist about their NICU , so made thatv my prayer point that my baby will not enter there o. That Sarah for billing department will not smile with u. The package doesn't include NICU cos I specifically asked her.

Maybe u negotiate a payment plan if need be.

@happytbaby,

For Methodist Sugarland, pls we need to get aggressive with them.

It is your right as a patient international or not to see your breakdown. Did you not pay your money? When they are collecting raw cash they don't say you are international. Mtchww

Ask for LaChaundra. I think she is a more senior billing person.

In d spirit of giving back &to say thank u to all dat answered my silly questions& bashed me. I found dis thread abt 1 month afta getn our US visa. All my peeps dat i asked abt birthn in d US were just not giving me d right info. So google directed me here. I read almost all d pages frm part 1 to dis page.

Wifey arrived Houston POE on Wednesday. 1st bought $4k @ travelex @MMIA to add to d small USD piggy bank savings we have been working on for a while. She is nt a Nairalander but i picked all i could here &gave her d training.

Below is d transcript according to her;
CBP:Hello, Welcome to America
DW:Thk u,Gud evening (Bush girl forming toosh, so na Oyinbo go 1st greet u)
He request for her passport.

CBP:Y are u here
DW:Vacation &Childbirth

CBP:What was d main purpose u declared when u got d visa?
DW:Vacation.

CBP:But there is an additional purpose
DW:Yes. She explains why we could not make it to d US despite our initial plans to come.

CBP:Did u inform d embassy abt dis
DW:Yes i did.I have a copy of the email &reply i got here (hands it over to him).

CBP:Have u contacted a hospital&doctor?
DW:Yes. I have d documents here. (She tries to hand it over to d guy but he replies dat she shld keep it &he continues to type into d system.

CBP:How much cash do u have on u?
DW:Over $7k. Do u want to see it.(Also adds) My husband will join me in abt 2 weeks.

CBP: No.Keep ur cash safe, u dont know who is watching. Pls place ur fingers here. Who are u staying with?
DW: A friend.

CBP: U have no clear address on ur form. Can u fill a correct address as i cannot allow u in wtout 1.
DWsad Na so yawa gas o, She didnt have network on her phone to call our friend. So she ask d CBP if she can use his phone to call, He tells her dey dont allow dem bring phone to work for security reasons. He advises dat wifey asks any1 dey flew in 2geda to use dia phone to call. 2 cut d long story short, a fellow naija helpd her call our friend who now gives d correct address).

CBP: Enjoy urself, pay ur bills. Hope u have a great time here.(Stamps her in till March,2017)

On her way out, 2 other officers accost her &asks to see her passport. Asks if she was sent 4 secondary inspection &she answers no. Welcome to America dey say to her again.

She picks her bags and walks out.(It all took her abt 4-6 minutes in all)

My sincere appreciation to you all. To all d aspiring visa applicants, may u experience favour. To all expectant mothers, wishn u successful deliveries, good news &good success.

I will soon share d birthing &billing testimonies to d glory of our Lord Jesus.

You can't book an infant ticket for baby dat has not been born. You will add the ticket for your journey back to Lagos.

Fellow Nairalanders,

I'm sorry it took a while to share my own Point of Entry story. I travelled on Etihad and had a connecting flight at Abu Dhabi. Also, the Abudhabi airport has an alliance with the US Immigration system such that you are expected to meet the CBP officers before connecting to your US flight. Also, bear in mind that i travelled with my toddler son who is a Canadian Citizen. And i was 34 weeks old and wore a maternity winter Pea Coat.

So Please see below my conversation with the CBP Officer.

CBP Officer: How you Doing
Me: I'm Fine Thank You
CBP Officer: Can i have your Passports?
Me: Hands him me and my son's Passports
CBP Officer: Please Place your hands on the Scanner
Me: I did as asked
CBP Officer: Where's Your final destination?
Me: IAD in Washington
CBP Officer: Stamps our Passports till Marc 2017, hands them over to me and says "You folks enjoy your holiday"
Me: Was shocked at first that he didnt ask me what we were going to do in the US. I quickly gathered myself and tells him "Thank you".

I collected our Passports and briskly proceeded to the our connecting gate.

My sisters and brothers, na so God do am for me o. I was already over prepared with cash and documents, but i ended up not requiring them. All i can say is that it is the Hand of God at work.

I look forward to sharing my testimony of child birth and hospital fees too very soon by God's grace.

Goodluck to everyone. and remember, Prayer changes things!
