To those criticizing this program by the Govt to feed school kids, I see no sense in your criticism. First of all this program is likely to be implemented in public schools. Already children of the rich and and middle class attend private schools. Government is ready to help the vulnerable among us, yet some people are bellyaching. What is wrong in helping orphans and children of the poor? This program will also provide employments to cooks, farmers, administrators etc. Government calls this social intervention. Do these critics understand the meaning of social intervention?
This is one program out many. Government already has other programs for unemployed youths. 30% of the budget is going into Capital project, that will lead to job creation. This is unprecedented in the history of this country.

This is a laudable programme. It is going to have multiplying effects on the economy. School children are going to be healthier and better prepared to learn. The thought of being fed at school alone will reduce school absenteeism.

Yes..... Unlike some short-sighted people. The ripple effect of this scheme cannot be over emphasized;

1. Home grown agricultural products business owners will flourish.
2. The agricultural sector will become attractive to young Nigerians.
3. Cost of expenditure for feeding in households will reduce.
4. School attendance will increase as you pointed out; a case study is Osun state which i have witnessed first hand.
5. Children's interest in attending school and concentration on their studies will increase.
6. These Children will become livelier and happier.
7. Incidences of child illness,majorly caused by malnutrition will reduce.
8. Academic performances will improve.
9. It will even create jobs for cooks around the federation.

Some people just sit down and cast abuses at positive initiatives by the government without thinking deep. Do you expect a government that is just over 100 days old to eradicate the problems created by a 150 years old decayed system in 100 days?

Very disappointing answer. Is it sustainable to give free food to children in schools with no equipment and furniture , and where some classrooms even have no roof , and teachers remain unpaid for several months ? Your kind of optimism is what will kill Nigeria.

This is laudable. It's only parochial and stereotype individuals that will oppose this initiative. Other things being equal, investment in Education has very high returns!

Ofcourse, every programme as this will definitely have one or two potential treats, but then that doesn't negate the plausibility of this programme. With proper, good & intense monitoring mechanism coupled with transparency and accountability this programme will succeed!

However, as school enrolment and other quantitative measures increase, there is also need to give attention to the quality dimension of schooling, in terms of teacher-pupil ratio, learning materials and the likes.

The development of any Country is highly dependent on the quality of her human capital!

Rather than giving destructive criticism, why not offer suggestions on how to block the possible leakages? Trust me, your suggestions will fly
