franciskaine: Who told you i am living comfortably? What they are doing is illegal according to Lagos laws!! What were they doing before they became hawkers? Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. same thing was said when Oshodi was cleared, when okada was banned in some areas. 2 Likes |

“It is not in our DNA to allow someone to just die by road accident or the way it happened in respect of the incident. But beyond the fact that we lost one person while crossing the road as a result of evading arrest by KAI officials, I need to tell Lagosians that over 49 buses were actually destroyed and it is costing us like almost N139m to put those buses back on the road." - Gov. Ambode The speech above was the governor's reaction to the incident that occurred earlier this week in Maryland, Lagos state. I am shocked that a sitting governor will say "beyond the fact that we lost one person......over 49 buses were destroyed and it will cost N139m." So the life of a Nigerian is nothing compared to the millions he mentioned? Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, that person was someone's son, brother, uncle, friend and above all a creature of God. You did not have to dismiss his death like it was one chicken that got killed on the road. He probably was one of the voters who gave you your mandate after standing in the sun just to cast his vote for you. I am truly shocked and disappointed in your statement and I expect you to retract that statement and issue a public apology to the parents of that Nigerian who could have been you if things had not been the way they are or even your own child or nephew. Law enforcement agents have caused so much avoidable deaths in the discharge of their duties in the most inhumane approach. Why chase someone on the highway? Please chase armed robbers in that way and not unarmed hungry Nigerians seeking for their daily bread. Govern with a human face. All power belongs to God! There is a day of reckoning! Do not destroy what you cannot create! |

useless regime with useless decisions.... those hawkers will now be doing what...if u stop them from doing their business? empty brains.... government should provide something for those else for them...cos hawking is their livelihood.. not making things unbearable for the poor masses. 1 Like |

bigass:I concur with your last point, differing in that alternatives were provided for those u mentioned. Okada riders were removed from risky roads, Oshodi traders were moved to a different location, or those wu can moved to beta places. In the case of hawkers I doubt any of them has the financial capacity to start anew. |

franciskaine: I am not against hawking. It is a symptom of poverty. However public safety is important too. They should be banned on the highways, like Third-mainland bridge, Ikorodu road Lagos Abeokuta road etc |
Re: Lagos To Jail Street Hawkers From July 1- Ambode by Nobody: 9:19am On Jul 02, 2016 |
bigass:now you are being more considerate. 99% of this hawkers are illiterates and don't av alternative except hawking. They can be move from more risky routes to less life threatening like d way okada issue was attended, else, get ready to complain tomorrow. Pick-pocket and night robbery will bcom a trademark. |

mikkypel:In all those places you mentioned do that experience the kind of traffic we have in Lagos. Put things in place and hawkers will disappear without government saying a word. If I can enter my car in VI and drive straight without any gridlock on the road what is my business shopping to buy gala or lacasara. If I can enter train, stop at the train staion and catch a bus that will drop me a working distance to my destination, what is my business with okada? What our government know is ban ban ban. A serious government don't need to ban, create a better alternative and the archaic one does off. Simple. |

Afritop: The Kai officer with his gloved hands would put the lacasera bottle into a ziplock bag, you will be asked to respectful accompany them to the Lagos state forensic centre, once your finger print matches does on the lacasera bottle you would be required to pay the N90,000 charges, plus additional cost for finger print verification which i assume would be about N30,000 and inconvenience charges for initially denying your guilt of about N30,000. i bet every police officer would want to now work in Lagos. Good move Governor Ambode. 1 Like |

ProfyJay: I just broke a tear when I read that part that a young lad was chased to his death to avade arrest not because he stole a dime but while trying to make money to survive n I'm still tryn to hold back tears. How on earth will a Governor commit a blunder by juxtaposing damaged properties with the life of an Innocent hustler. Ambode needs to tender an unreserved apology for uttering such insensitive statement. 1 Like |
