Actually it may be the other way round! (who cares anyway!) Jews may be related to Igbos. Remember that Africa is the oldest continent in terms of human geography and anthropology. There are striking cultural and behavioral similarities between Igbos and Jews, but that is all to it! Igbo culture (as African culture) is much older than the Jewish culture.

how are igbos ancient egyptians again, ancient egyptians are not even black at all not that they were white either, they had very tanned brown skin and were different from any groups or races we see today, they were completely different in appearence so stop with that!

how are blacks not cursed, blacks have been exploited and enslaved by everyone, by arabs, by persians and by europeans, how on earth is that not a CURSE! please explain, what has the black man contributed to this world, pls tell me!! not technological advancement, not empires that shook the world, nothing! apart from disease, slavery and corruption, what does the black man have, oh yeah black people can run around a field with balls,we are good at sports (entertaining white people) so prove to me blacks arent a cursed people!!case in point, NIGERIA,nigerians hate each other and are utterly incapable of self help, same with african americans!!!

I know we're, and by 'we're' I mean you, are trying to be Politically Correct, but your above statement is going to far. Tanned? Really? Anyway. Well I beleive that the Egyptians are Africans who happened to have accumulated a mix in their lineage's from the Middle East, after all all the wigs of the queens and consort's were all black, and were of a kinky texture, usually in braids, I don't know another race with kinky hair, but hey. Apart from that, if the Ancient Egyptians "were different from any groups or races we see today" then where did they 'disappear' to? Folowing your theory there should be traces of Egyptian features in their former lands, but all you see in modern day Egyptians are Semites who look like they have black in them.  sad Where did the Ancient Egyptians go?.

Second of all, it's possible the Igbo people and Egytpians are realted, infact I'm going to say they have to be related.

Igbo Jews in West Africa

Ome'n'na
Omenana is the equivalent of the Tora/Judaism for the Igbo people. It is the entire culture - the religious ideas and practices - of the Igbos. Omenana is a phrase, a compound word, which hides much valuable information. In English, Ome'n'ana means "what to do in the land": Ome means "what to do in," n means "the," and ana (in this context) means "land."

In Igboland, it is believed "that the land vomits out people who commit aru (abomination)." Within the framework of Omenana, aru is thought to pollute the people who commit it, as well as make them unfit to reside on the land. Apart from the loss of land, Igbos believe that committing aru and njo ("sin"wink brings about death, sickness, poverty, and suffering. The purpose of Omenana is to help the Igbo Jew establish a positive relationship, so to speak, with Chukwu - the great God.

Chukwu (God)
Igbo Jews refer to God as Chukwu ("great God"wink, Chineke ("God the Creator"wink, and Chukwu Abiama ("God of Abraham"wink. Another title of God is Ama ama amasi amasi, which means "He that is known but can't be known fully." This indicates a key concept of Igbo theology - the ineffability of God. As a great Igbo historian wrote, "The first item, is the being known in English as God. It is the first in having no origin and no ending, in being the creator and ruler of all that has ever existed in the past, that exists in the now, and that will exist in the future, in truth, we do not know its name."

Monotheism is central to the Igbo Jews' beliefs. Not only are there no other gods in the Igbo cosmology but there isn't even a word for "gods" (in the plural)! Although there have been some Igbos who have brought in foreign deities over the course of time, these are acknowledge as foreign aberrations and not part of normative Omenana. Unfortunately, due to the persecution of foreign colonialists, many modern Igbo Jews have taken up Christian beliefs; it is the goal of the Igbo Israel Union to help these Igbo Jews return to a life of Omenana.

Life Cycle EventsOmugwo (seclusion of a woman who has given birth). From the time that an Igbo woman gives birth, she is in a state of omugwo. Like a woman during the time of her menstrual cycle, a mother who has just given birth is viewed as nso, meaning "sacred" or "ritually impure." While the new mother is in the state of omugwo, she is brought to a different house which is festooned with fresh palm fronds.

Ibi ugwu (circumcision). All Igbo males are circumcised on the eighth day, as has been the custom since time immemorial and has the authority of Omenana. Igbo scholars point to this custom as proof of the Igbo-Israelite relationship. It is estimated that today there are over eighteen million Igbo males who have been thusly circumcised.

Iba afa (baby naming. An Igbo child may be named on the very day of its birth, although it is customary for some Igbo communities to name the child on the ninth and for others to name it on the twenty-eighth. Every family member endeavors to be present at the baby naming; when all are assembled, the ceremony begins with the happy mother bringing out her child. After handing the child over to the oldest male member of the family, who is the first to name the child, the father is next in line to provide the child with another name. Every person gathered at the ceremony may give the newborn child a name.

Among the Igbo Jews, names given to children reflect experiences that the parents and other family members have had; for example, if an Igbo couple have waited many years for a child, they might name it "Ogwalu Onyekwe," which means "He who is told will not believe, that a child will still come after all these years." It is also a general rule among Igbo Jews to compound their children's names with the names of God, in keeping with the practice among biblical Jews.

After everyone has given the baby a name, the oldest male family member asks for quiet and starts praying to Chukwu, begging that the good deeds of the newborn's ancestors be remembered and considered, and used to guard and protect the child throughout life. After these praises and supplications, he hits his staff on the ground and all present answer Ihaa ("Amen"wink.

Iputa na omugwo (coming out from seclusion). At the end of the new mother's seclusion, she engages in a ritual immersion in a flowing stream or river. Upon her return, the entire family throws a happy feast for the extended family and friends, who come with gifts and presents.

Ima mmonwu (coming-of-age rite for young men). When they come of age, young Igbo men are initiated into the history and deeper lessons of their clan by their (masked) elders. During the night of the rite, the young men are lectured with the accompaniment of music (and the liberal passing-round of palm wine). They are "interrogated" about their youthful misdemeanors and fully educated about the requirements of life according to Omenana. When their lesson is complete, the young men are asked to start dancing and are subsequently joined by their elders. Just before dawn, all that they have been taught over the night is restated to them - and with that, the rite is complete.

Iru mgbe (coming-of-age right for young women). For a young Igbo woman, the process of Iru mgbe starts at an early age. Over time, she learns all the secrets of managing a house and raising a family. The final ceremony is held between the ages of fifteen and eighteen; her parents prepare for her a great feast and a proclamation is sent around to all their relatives and friends inviting them to attend the celebration. The ceremony starts at around noon, with the elder of the girl's family making a speech about this milestone in life and is followed by several other speeches. Afterwards, the feasting and dancing commence and continue until the evening.

Inu nwanyi (marriage). To the Igbo Jews, marriage is the primary institution that guarantees the survival of the family and the society. Individuals who deliberately avoid marriage are scorned, and "bachelors for life" are called ofeke (a "non-serious person"wink. No Igbo likes to be an ofeke, so everybody strives to marry.

The Omenana demands that a man be economically secure before marrying. He must have a trade or occupation, as well as a (small) farm (at the very least). In addition, he must build his own house along with a separate home for his wife. When he is finally ready to get married, the young man will declare his intent to his parents, who will in turn inform the entire extended family of the news, whereupon all will begin to search for a bride. The major quality that Igbo Jews look for in a wife-to-be is good character; as the saying goes, "Agwa wu mma nwanyi" - "Good character is a woman's beauty."

Among Igbo Jews, intermarriage with non-Jews is abhorred. It is preferred that a marriage take place within the clan or with neighboring clans. By the same token, it is forbidden, according to Omenana, for two people to marry if they are related by blood (within the extended family).

The engagement ceremony - Ime ego - takes places in the bride's family's home. Canopies made of palm fronds and sticks are erected, under which the ceremony will take place and everyone will sit during the feast. The ceremony begins with the various well-spoken family members sharing wise aphorisms about successful marriages. After some time, quiet is asked for and the elder of the bride's family begins blessing the new couple. During the ceremony, the groom presents his future mother-in-law with gifts. After this concludes, the feasting and drinking continue, and the bride's and groom's families settle the bride-price.

The marriage ceremony - Ime ogodo - also takes place in the home of the bride. With much feasting, drinking, singing, dancing, and all-around merrymaking, the newly-married couple will be called up from under their wedding-canopy to dance together. After this celebration the bride's family gives her a dowry and the young couple is ready to officially start their married life.

Since you live in America try going to a Jew tomorrow and telling him you're a Jew yourself. Watch him laugh in your face. Living in a civilized world like America many people expect you to return and educate those you left behind about the stupidity of the above. Its inferiority complex that made Ibo's think they are what they are not. The Igbos are just one of many  African tribes. The link to Jews is only through Christianity and nothing more.
Re: Are Igbo's Really Jews? by gadogado(m): 11:50pm On Sep 17, 2009
@ezeagu

first of all, you have to realize that ancient egyptians lived over 3000 yrs ago, almost a millenium before christ. They diluted and mixed up so their original race is lost, that tanned brown that they had is no longer found anywhere. How can you connect them to igbos, they have nothing to do with igbos honestly! igbos belong to the niger-congo racial group, the ancient egyptians were afro-asiatic with strong semitic presence in their gene pool. so as you can see they are two distinct groups of people!! and dont even have cultural ties with each other!!

Let me ask you this, if blacks are not cursed and if the curse "you shall be the servants of servants" doesnt apply to blacks then why have blacks been enslaved by persians, arabs and europeans? the persians and arabs enslaved east africans, the europeans enslaved west africans!! why is africa so poor and why are their leaders so evil if not a curse upon the fact that there are many resources capable of making africa rich, the people have not been blessed with adequate intellect to help themselves hence the exploitation over and over again. you answer this. blacks are a cursed people whether you believe it or not, their condition speaks for itself. or prove me otherwise!

I can now see the main purpose of your thread. Sad for you!

I don't know about "blacks being cursed" but I know about Igbos and I know we are NOT CURSED!
Far from it!
How can a tribe that produced the likes of Philip Emeagwali (Africa's greatest computer genuis), Chike Obi ( Africa's greatest mathematician), Chinua Achebe (who wrote the most popular African prose), Chimamanda Adichie (an emerging literature genuis), Chukwuma Soludo (an economics wizard), Ngozi Okonjo Iweala (world bank MD), Kenechukwu Nnamani (the man who single handedly stopped Obasanjo's third term bid), Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (the young man who saw the future and created a nation) and many more like them, be cursed? These are people whose actions helped shape the history of the black race and the world; whose actions are still influencing the history of the world in science, literature, finance, economics and management and politics.
Igbo could easily be the most blessed tribe in Africa!

So, next time you want to count cursed black people, please count Igbos out! Thank you!

This discussion is not for idiots. Please those of you who know that you IQ is double digit or less, just stay off.

Let me begin by saying that humanity originated in Africa and as Africans. Shem, Ham and Japheth were all Africans so I really don't know how Ham or Canaan could have been cursed to become African all over again. Please for those of you who have only heard rumours about the curse placed on Ham and his descendants, please, read the entire Genesis Chapter 9 and be rid of your ignorance.

The people who claim to be Jews today, are actually Germans who adopted Judaism in the 17th century and later grew to become the largest group of people who adopted Judaism in Europe so after Hitler they became entitled to Palestine.

Compile a list of about 100 surnames of Jews in Israel today and check for the origin of most of those names, you will find they are German.

The largest tribe of Jews as reported in the Bible are now claimed by these European impostors as "lost tribes of Israel" yet they are there; the Ozubulu.

Someone said the Jews are like the Fulani, nomadic, always moving from place to place. I ask : what Jews? What Fulani? There are several Jews but the Shephardic Jews roam around with animals, just like the nomadic Fulani trek their cattle. There are other Fulani groups who don't even know the first thing about cattle.

Anyway, it was written, my people perish for lack of knowledge.

Jews are originally from Africa and the largest group of jews in the world are a group in Nigeria called the Ozubulu. The most respected group of Jews in the world which is the only set of Jews which must produce Priests is the Eri which also are located in Nigeria.

@ Onlytruth, gadogado is a Labanese delirious Islamic jihadist and a reprehensible sharia apostle. He is known for his brazen derogatory racial rhetoric usually aimed at blacks. When it is time to bask in the "glory" of global racial antagonism, he becomes the Lebanese hurling bags of flaming sheit at the ''negroes''. When it is ''open season" for the the Nigerian brand of racial antagonism, he throws on his Hausa or Fulani skin and informs us authoritatively that Igbos were naked disheveled, ghastly, lawless, barbaric ooga-booga-gibberish-muttering savages until the white man brought them civilization.

Notice how he used "we'' when describing ''negores'' as baboons who are only capable of running in a field to entertain white people (the same white people he loves the way a hungry cat loves a mouse)  LWKMD grin grin grin grin. One his greatest dreams is do dip the koran into the Atlantic and make us all bang our head on the floor in the name of Allah, unfortunately that is a pipe dream because the Egbesu, Ifa, Amadioha, Jesus and Abasi Mbok people have filled the Atlantic with their ''books'', there isn't any room left.

I must fault your response to the delirious jihadist on the ground that you cannot be selective in your defense. Your response in a way validates his derogatory view of ''negroes''. The Igbos are not special people and nothing separates them from all the other African ethnic groups apart from language and to some extent culture. The picture I got from your response is: "Sure, blacks are cursed but definitely not Igbos", which IMHO is no different from the diseased inflammatory views of the delirious jihadist.   My understanding of your post might be erroneous.

@Nex. Good one.

Your point is well taken. That wasn't the intent of most post though. Nevertheless, I stand down on that.

they are gentiles, the sons of esau, suffering from the curse on their fore fathers, unrepentant in their idle worship,

their only hope is to change their ways when there is still time.

the ibo hate every other tribe and even their own blood. they are selfish, greedy unscrupulous , will even sell their mother for 10 naira( imagine how much they will sell their mother in law)

ibo is the only tribe that i know who travel far and wide but never ditch their toga barbarism. we hope the young generation would not make the mistake of their elders.

talking about elders who are the ibo leaders who have improved the lot of their pple? is it azikiwe or ojukwu or orji kalu? or madam rebranding who shd have retricted herself to chasing fake drug barons but just had to go and make a fool of herself in the wrong environment. thats the lot of all the ibo, they all end up badly. we need pple like chimamamnda adichie to come and save the day

truly they aint no jews. they are more likely Iraqis.

THANK YOU!!!!!

I really meant it. Look at it this way: If Ken Nnamani took bribes from Obasanjo and supported the third term bid, do you think he could not have rallied other senators in support? He could have accepted huge Ghana -Must-Gos and shared them among the senators and third term would have happened. He didn't and not only that, he gave the most insightful leadership speech I've ever heard to scuttle the third term bid. How can we forget so quickly? I think he would have succeeded in buying over the other senators, and I think he would still be the senate president today. He sacrificed his political future for integrity. Yes, he stopped Obasanjo! For that by the way, he lost out and Igbos lost out too! And I'm proud of him!
He is Ezigbo nwa!

While not trying to derail this thread, I need to know how sure you are, is this your final answer? grin grin grin

My brother when these politicians talk at high level tribe is not really a factor. I will advice that you dont stick your neck out for these men. FYI the senate is not comprised of men where issues are just linearly considered. If the pro 3rd tem men needed to share GMG, it still could have been done without even passing through Nnamani. We all know GMG went round all the rest is history.

Nnamani could have collected money and still find the task for rallying the senators an impossible task, because the 3rd in itself was really a hard sell.

Do you know  Nnamani was initially  talking of voice vote to decide the decision of the senate for a matter as sensitive as that? A lot of Nigerians were really really suspicious of him then, the bid failed for the following reasons
1. nothern senators were never going to compromise the AREWA POSITION which was totally against the bid.
2. The pressure put on the senate by the House of reps. because the  reps were summarilly more proactive and progressive .
