So when police arrest bank robbers and recover stolen money, they should also keep a percentage ?

I concur..

But it should be handed to them via the proper channels.. Menaing they recover the loot, account for their recovery to the Finance Ministry or whoever is in charge and then it is given to them from the top.

Same for the Police. They should be allowed to keep a percentage of monies the recover from Tickets, fines and the likes..

No it doesn't and shouldn't work that way. This is why there is a budget. We don't deny the Magu-led agency deserves more funding but it should receive any funds from its own official finance channels, after spending proposals have been duly received, analyzed and approved.

To create a direct funding system from the loot recovered is capable of creating conflict of interest across all levels of the agency. And we certainly don't want that.

I bow to your superior argument..

At the point where you spoke of conflict of Interest, I couldn't even find a rebuttal to that.

No body is fighting corruption in this country
Is it not the same EFCC that says government cannot lay hands on the recovered loots to fund the economy?
Are we going forward as a country or we are going backward?
Is it not the same governments that fund the EFCC?
What name will be giving to this percentage?
And this is to show that this governments has been using this money recovered since! And the economy is still this bad.
God will help us the youth

Ehenn... me sef I was wondering.I knw say one day those billions go enter oga magu eyes Olé

The recovered funds should be sent back to where they were stolen from.

Or is d EFCC not entitled to allocation From the govt..he should be talking to them about increasing this monthly money and not advocating for his share in the stolen funds.

“In some jurisdictions like the UK, proceeds of crime are further used to strengthen the agency,” he said.
“In EFCC, we have been struggling for years to build our headquarters and when I think of the billions of naira we recover, I can see what would have happened if we are allowed to apply a percentage of this recovery into our operations.”

Baba eye don dey dey the money...na joke i dey o because i feel u die..《《nice1》》

Apart from the clear loophole retaining a percentage of recovered proceeds of crime will create, the idea of requiring an accused person to bear the burden of proof means that the EFCC is not prepared to do its work anymore. It means any person can be picked up, have his business and other sources of income and deposits frozen until he can tell the EFCC the source. That will amount to witch hunting and victimisation. If they are too lazy to do their investigative work and collect credible evidence with which to nail any suspect, they should be disbanded, no need to constitute a drain on public resources and still keep searching for statutory escape routes from responsible diligence in their work.

An angry toaster working or with a contact in EFCC can decide to haul in a high class babe that makes her money from being a call girl for instance, that has refused to give into his advances and then proceed to incapacitate her because the duty is on her to prove her source of income. She is no criminal but she will be subjected to public disdain and marginalisation because of her line of work.

I also hate this idea that the basis of making certain laws would be because it is supposedly obtainable in other climes without context and availability or existence of similar circumstances. Yet they will not say let them operate our hospitals and the health industry for instance, the way it is done in that UK he is calling. Nothing to benefit the masses and actually put more money in the hands of ordinary Nigerians is considered as they exist in the UK. When it comes to more avenues for theft and provision of tools for oppression, they start making obscure references to UK and US and co! Nonsense people!

You are the first person to make sense 4rm the article!!! Magu just pointed out the reason why 90% of dea cases are thrown out of court! The burden of proof.. The efcc is a lazy agency! Look into corruption loopholes, make policy and technological advancement to block dem and TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE MONEY.

Spoken like a true Naija policeman. . .

In other news, where is Ibrahim Lamorde? All current EFCC activity will remain mere charade & empty posturing until that man is brought to justice.
Re: Magu Wants EFCC To Keep Recovered Loots by Charly68: 3:08pm On Oct 19, 2016
Does the EFCC act support that? In any case it is going to be a good incentive for the outfit. The Govt can even ask them to be financing themselves through commission received from loot recovery.

So that they too can share from the loot. Magu should be sacked for this reckless statement and if knows that efcc is not comfortable for him any longer, he should resign immediately rather looking for ways to enriched himself and his cronies. After all he was brought inn to sanitize the place but to wreck or enriched himself.
