Will Shiites be allowed as members of this Islamic parastatal and in drafting the Islamic curriculum to be applied in the schools? Or is it going to be another Sunni way of exploiting the country just like Jigawa is not building a single Shiite Mosque in the awarded contracts for mosques construction.

From the many replies here it is evident stupidly is rampant in Nigeria. And most people would speak negatively of anything just so long they don't like the “way it seems ”

It is obvious all of you failed to read the purpose of the board so I have brought it here

“NBAIS was formally established in 1959 by the government of the defunct Northern Region to perform the following functions: To develop curriculum and syllabus for Arabic and Islamic schools and centres; to supervise these same Arabic and Islamic schools and centres; to ensure high enrollment of learners into the formal school system that would have otherwise been out of school with the attendant security implications; and to impart specialized knowledge on Arabic and Islamic Studies through the Arabic medium as well as other formal school subjects in English.

The Arabic school and Islamic centres are also to provide a platform for regulating Islamic educational contents that are sound, appropriate and geared towards the acquisition of positive values for moral, human and national development; to conduct final examinations for students in all relevant schools, in line with its nomenclature and mandate, and be responsible for the issuance of Junior Arabic and Islamic certificates and all other functions expected of such a parastatal”.

CAN and the Unions are barking up the wrong tree, if anything this board if run effectively would regulate Islamic and Arabic teachings and ensure any child within the system is put through standardised education. This is a common system in most advanced countries ; all schools be they faith schools, grammar schools ,private or public schools are standardised to guarantee all modules within the formal curriculum are thaught and a state approved examination and governing boards with state grants coming in

It may be best if the board is independent of FG and ministry of education but rather a recipient of state funds based on adherence to strict FG defined , a FG appointed representative can also sit on the board

It should be so with schools including private schools all over Nigeria be they Muslim Christian or otherwise this would ensure standardised study and government control of what the young mind learns and ensure we have a society full of different minds with same purpose

this is a blessing in disguise, but some people might not like it, I support the sharia or any other moves, even they can declare Nigeria a sharia country they'll will help in disintegrating this country, what i am trying to say with these northern muslims we can never live normally, that religion they practice is a curse to them, and nobody within their reach shall know no peace despite theirs is a religion of peace.

StOla:
The minister might have his own parochial reasons for re-establishing a defunct board, but I'm certain Buhari would not even consider government funding for religious boards that don't have any positive contribution to the country.

There's no board for Latin, so I wonder why Nigerian Muslims hold on to Arabic as if it is Nigerian culture.
Such boards should be a privately funded NGO at best.
There's presently enough organisational resources at the ministry of education to cater for religious studies.

A government of a republic should have no business funding or propagating 2 choice religions. Religion should be the personal matter of the citizens, and privately taught to their family.

Nigerians have never learnt or used Latin in a relative manner at any stage in our history. I'm sure There must exist an organisation which promotes the use of Latin language , I know well of that which promotes the improvement adoption and learning of the French language which is heavily funded by France and Switzerland globally with an heavy footprint in Africa

It's useful to reason before commenting !

you dont get it.
how does this agency grow the economy?
religion is not our problem but incompetent leaders who latch unto religion when they have nothing to offer. Adamu should better concentrate his efforts in making other agencies work instead of wasting time on the mundane

It takes a sane mind to understand that in a country like Nigeria and a continent like Africa where religion is most fervently practised as compared to any other continent on this globe of humans, moral decadence is the reason why we continue to regress.

Only in Nigeria does a FG appointee pay tithe and contribute graciously to a religious organisation from the proceeds of fraud , misappropriation and embezzlement of collective wealth

Only in Nigeria have religious leaders attempted to justify what is morally indefensible

The Chinese and Japanese don't practice religion but they know what is appropriate and their century long undestanding of moral codes has been to their economic advantage

What business does an English speaking country have with promoting a language that is not indigenous and not official?

Christian are in darkhearted time. Islam was established in Northern Nigeria over a hundred years ago. Since then the region was developed its educational background through Arabic and even developed its form of writing which called Ajam or Ajami.
But with coming of Whitemen they are supprised to find a black people with such remarkable development all round human needs... eg school, court, law and order etc unlike the other countryside where the darkness covered their faces. With this regard the whitemen untroduced wester culture and religion to subtituted the present way of life.
Now-a-day every things were changed from element of Eastern culture to Western culture. The way of life of Nigerian changed totally to Chrustianity ( ). We write in chriatian traditon, we communicated in Christian tradition even our medium of instruction and weekly holidays are Christian tradition to mention just a fewer. Please what does Islam have as element of religion in this country?
