andersonbaba: We are in a recession because of a bad exchange rate policy which has led to chronic dollar shortages which Sanusi Lamido has criticised relentlessly. Agriculture won't get the economy out of the woods. The agricultural sector no matter how fast it grows is expected to shrink as a % of GDP every year. If it increases, it's symptomic of something wrong. Anyone who travels to Dubai or Singapore and says the country needs to return to farming isn't serious 3 Likes |

andersonbaba: You made a statement that was perfectly fair and which showed that Nigerian farmers are rising to the challenge. Some time ago it seemed like cheap tomatoes were an impossibility. In fact someone says whatever goes up in nigeria never comes down. Happily this was not the case. Unfortunately you didn't take into account that NL is heavily polarized ( especially the 18-30 crowd)and that people who never asked a single question while in university are now trying to make up for lost time. Maintain your optimistic mindset. Things ARE getting better. Ignore the crowd. 99% of the time they are wrong. Positivity allows you see opportunity while the pessimistic huddle over their half empty glasses. Wishing you a prosperous New year. 1 Like |

Some nairalanders are hypocrites and I believe some people do not reason logically. Its the same people that blamed Buhari for tomato scarcity last year that can't see any thing good in the basket the OP bought for 1,500. When tomatoes was expensive the way they were shouting Buharis name, I had to wonder if he was the cause of scarcity. I never attributed the scarcity to Buhari, neither will I say buhari is the cause of the surplus we have now because the dynamics are different, people closed their eyes to the fact that there was a tomato disease last year, if you can blame buhari when it was expensive because of a reason beyond anyone's control then you should praise him now its surplus which I know should be normal. Nigeria won't move forward until we stop seeing things via the lens of political affiliations, religious and ethnic sentiments. Can't you all just try to be logical for once? |

Two months time from now, You wont find any to buy. its not the production, its about preservation for months. I have been waiting for a minister who will make provision for local preservation centers for Plantain, tomatoes, mangoes, cashew, onions, and all the perishables in the market. 40% of our production perishes after it hits the market and is not sold immediately. |

This is the season of tomatoes, by February there will be no tomatoes in the market, so try and store it. Its fridge friendly. |
