The FG is in quite a dilemma! It would have been easier to carry out repairs at night like is being done in some countries, sadly, Abuja has ONLY ONE RUNWAY. If there were two or more runways, arrival and departure of aircrafts would have been easily diverted to the other runways while work is being done on the faulty runway. Dunno if Kaduna airport will be able to handle the traffic but the Abuja-Kaduna road is in equally bad shape just as the Minna-Abuja road. Who would want to take a flight from Lagos to While the FG is trying to get its head out of this dilemma. I will advise them to prepare for the construction of a second runway at Abuja Airport. 1 Like |

Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by Enice(m): 5:19pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
ephi123:fuuls also reason you know but the difference is that what comes out from a fuuls mouth is rubbish. First of all, Heathrow airport has as many as 2 or 3 major runaway. So in case of repairs, others can be used. Secondly, the aviation industry is one of the most safety regulated. Do you expect aeroplanes to be landing and taking off while buldozers are working just like the way it is done in road construction with a diversion sign saying turn left or right, slow down etc? Please get some sense or remove that hatred of Buhari from your mind so you can see clearly. Now on the construction of the runaway proper, what is used is concrete before asphalt is poured. Do you expect the concrete to take a day to cure So you can use it the next day? |

Leopardd: This is daft... Extremely daft! While we may argue that the size of Kaduna airport wont be able to cope with the number of flights coming in from Lagos, it is the only realistic way/option to have flights come in and get closer to the FCT My only issue is how we got here, how an international airport like Abuja only has one runway I fly in and out of Abuja, infact today i still flew in from lagos, and trust me, that run way is extremely bad! To say it is an arrangement to have a slice of the federal revenue go El-Rufai's way is very stupid tho! Think!!!! |

Do you know how many potholes exist that have broken landing gears of aircrafts on ABUJA runway? Is it wrong to fix it? What solutions do you profer? Is just to come out and criticize money was marked for fixing this runway under Yaradua they ate it, it was marked twice under Jonathan they ate it another person wants to fix it you complain....are you and your likes not enemies of progress 1 Like |

Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by OFFICIAL336: 7:47pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
banki:Am not against fixing of the airport. Kaduna relatively unsafe and the airport can't even handle int'l flight. Why can't they redirect to Lagos and use helicopter service to reconnect to Abj. We should stop playing politics with our security. |

Leopardd:unfortunately for u and ur legislative fool that only wants to be seen as being active nd doing d people's bid, the executive never needed their approval. It's just like stopping fashola from performing his duty by closing down abule-egba to put a bridge there because it's a fed. road. it doesn't makes sense. you go talk say I talk am. They are only pained because it didn't come from them to the executive. Which is their job to remind d executives in a normal society. yeye people. They can't stop it. It's already sealed. they can only rant. |

OFFICIAL336: You see why I am pained Listen to yourself....they should redirect the flights to Lagos and then go by helicopter? Have you seen that most of the critics against this project are enemies...... 6weeks closure of the airport for safety reasons is raising so much dust, I just watched channels and discovered that senator hope uzodinma who raised the objection to the project in the senate, was the chairman senate committee on aviation in 2010 when they proposed this project they chopped the money then.....7years later he wants to stop the project , if they had done it then would we have the problems that we have now! |
Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by kevoh(m): 6:27am On Jan 11, 2017 |
OFFICIAL336:No, you can not just use helicopter service. It's quite expensive. How many commercial passengers can a helicopter airlift per day to Abuja before the engines start begging? Besides, if you redirect flights to Lagos, how about travelers planning to leave Abuja to other parts? I agree people are playing politics with the whole issue. Kaduna airport can find it difficult handling the traffic load, the Abuja-Kaduna roads are bad and even if the road is somehow good it's not an option when convenience for the average flyer/traveler is considered, repairs can not be done on the single Abuja airport runway without shutting down operations. The FG is in much quagmire about the whole situation. Right now, the lesser evil which is Kaduna Airport seems to be their only option. |
Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by OFFICIAL336: 6:50am On Jan 11, 2017 |
banki:I have you ever been on an international flight? I guess not. NAIA is the 2nd most busiest airport in Nigeria and redirecting all int'l flights to Kaduna will overwhelm that airport. That airport can't handle int'l flights, and the city itself is relatively unsafe. Last week, fulani terrorists murdered over 100 Nigerian souls, Boko haram had been dislodged from their base and don't u think they might target Kaduna to proof a point, the shites are equally there, religious tension bw Southern and Northern Kaduna is high, the Abj-Kad road is not even in a better condition. Kaduna is not safe for this diversion. They should redirect to Lagos and reconnect using helicopter. Like they intend to do between Kad-Abj. If this is not an option, then they should redirect to Minna which is about 151km to Abuja against Kaduna that is 209km. They can still upgrade without closing the airport entirely. |

Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by OFFICIAL336: 8:12am On Jan 11, 2017 |
kevoh:Kaduna is not even a lesser evil. It shouldn't be an option. That city is relatively unsafe. Kaduna-Abuja road is not even good and the distance is about 209km. What stops the FG from redirecting to Minna which is about 151Km to Abuja, if Lagos is not an option to them. I think it is time we stop playing politics with our safety. |
Re: Senate Rejects Closure Of Abuja Airport by OFFICIAL336: 8:28am On Jan 11, 2017 |
Phobia1:I think you need to go back to school. The last thing the executive will ever dream of is a war with the legislature. They have the capability to shut down the government in case you don't know. They can cut funding to the aviation sector and the executive will never do shit about that. If it is as easier as you think, Sariki and Ekweremmadu would av been in prison now. But it is not easy for Buhari. It didn't come from them to the executive? Lol. Who approved the fund for the executive? |
