Mixed reactions have trailed a statement credited to the France ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gauer who said that there is no future for the achievement of Biafra.

Gauer told the Guardian, that his home country would not in anyway work with any group agitating for the division of the nation.

He said France was working with Nigeria and supporting it as a country.

“We are working with Nigeria and we are supporting it as the only country.

“This is absolutely clear and I don’t think there is any kind of future for Biafra. They are part of Nigeria and Nigeria has to remain as the only country.”

Ths statement is coming as a big blow to Biafra agitators especially members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB) considering that France supported Biafra during the civil.

Nigerians took to social media to express their opinion concerning the new development.

While some declared this as the end of the Biafra agitation, staunch Biafra supporters insisted that I will not deter them from their goal.

France will say what they have to say for now. They know Nigeria perpetually accuses France of trying to cut the English speaking country to size. So they have to say what they must say.

It does not mean France will not do what it needs to do at the appointed time.

France are in full support of Biafra but to avoid diplomatic rift they've got to say what's attributed to them in that publication.

Did anyone really expect the French Ambassador to come out and publicly support Biafra?

No Ambassador is going to publicly support the division of the country he is an Ambassador to

If that Ambassador did that, he would be expelled that very day back to his home country.

The French Ambassador just said what any Ambassador would say.

They only thing I think he should not have said is that Biafran has no future. He is in Nigeria to be an Ambassador, he is not here to predict future. It is not for him to predict what the indigenous people do with their land and sovereignty.

He is entitled to disagree with Biafra, he is not allowed to predict the future.
