Crime in South Africa,
The high rate of crime in South Africa is of major concern for expatriates moving to or living in South Africa.

South Africa has got the highest crime rate per 100,000 residents in the world regarding assault,
despoil and murder as shown in various statistics and was getting lots of undesirable attention recently
for being dubbed as the 5th most dangerous city, so called "murder-capital" in the world.

South Africa is often referred to as one of the high-risk areas in the world with a murder rate on par
with that of Rio de Janeiro according to the United Nations in 2006.

With 1797 murders with a population of roughly 4,785,000 residents in Cape Town the murder ratio
is around 55 murders for every 100,000 persons. These are shocking figures for sure. But you should
know more about Crime in Cape Town and learn where most of the crime happens.

According to the survey, 140 cities were ranked 30 factors, such as healthcare, environment, culture, education, and security, to mention but a few.

The Canadian coastal city of Vancouver tops the list of 10 most liveable cities in the world, closely followed by Vienna, Melbourne and Toronto. The others include Calgary, Helsinki, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland.

African cities dominate the list of less liveable cities with Johannesburg, one of the designated venues of the 2010 World Cup occupying the 92nd position.

You know that is why you mofo's can't think outside the box much. who is defining the meaning of "livable" in this context. Aren't ther 150 milliion people living there. Have they droppeddown and died.

If you are accepting the definition of "livable' in the western context then bro you might as well peel your skin white so you can become 'acceptable' as well in the hierachy of definitions provided by your masters.

I miss intellectuals like BIKO who were real gems in the South African populous. People who could argue political and social issues with a reasonable IQ not the ones who keep comparing skyscrapers, how many tourists come to the country and how westernized their societies appear.

I haven't seen any leaders in your ANC who possess such intellecutal prowess and are able to chart or present a vision for the future of your country yet.

Some of you have become disllusioned Uncle tom's who are now content on Nando's chicken  and driving the latest cars, the rest are scrambling for money and power trying to become the new BEE elite.

Check your backyard before mentioning anything about South Africa. If we were the capital city of murder we wouldn't have 1 Million Nigerians roaming our streets like wild dogs. If crime was so bad, why are they here then? Why don't they go to Mozambique, Zimbabwe or Zambia if South Africa was so bad? You must just ask yourself that question. How many South Africans that are in Nigeria? Less than 1000, then ask yourself why there aren't many South Africans in Nigeria. Its ecomonical, simple as that.

You are proving my point exactly by making ridiculous statments like the ones above.

What is your point? That South Africa is a destination where one is able to progress judging from the capitalist system, stable infrastructure and economic opportunity. Thats a non issue Dummy,

The question you should be asking is why are your unemployment rates high, crime statistics high as compared to your developed world peers you seem to equate yourselfs to frequently.

Only smart intellectuals can dissect the problems properly instead of coming up with silly arguements about how many Nigerians are in South Africa and how 'foreigners' are influxing the country and taking your jobs away from you(though this is a valid issue)

If Biko were alive today with his intellectual level I doubt he would be concerned about the issues of the Nigerians and instead would be formulatting aggressive agendas to curb the disparities of  the townshiped underclass which are undoubtedly the root of urban problems of crime, illiteracy, despoil and HIV.

The above situations beind exacerbated by economic struggle between Capitalist entities that feel threathen by socialist agenda that give rise to pressure on capital  thereby creating possibilites for exploitation of 'foreigners" who are willing participants to an unfair wage or those who participate in underground business in a existing marketplace

Please listen to his excerp again and pay attentiion to the portion where he prophesizes on the outcome of your country if the government did not implement certain controlled socialist agendas concerning the redistribution of wealth in an equitable manner.

You seem to be agreeing with what I am raising. I don't see any incongruity on your retort. The point that I am raising is why South Africa is still attractive from people from outside while its crime stats speak much for themselves that South Africa is hell. The stats say South Africa is a murder capital of the world and is still Africa’s No.1 tourist destination. Trouncing the likes of Egypt and Tunisia, this considered very steady countries.

I am by no means trying to preserve South Africa with its crime. Yes, there is crime, but I have always said it before that crime in South Africa is embellished. I have never been robed myself; I have never heard a gun shot in 12 years. I have never seen some one shot dead on the street. I don’t know where this crime thing is coming from because I have never seen or experienced it.

People who are round the bend about the direction the country is taking are the ones who are making a lot of din outside of the country. Those who have left who did not want to be ruled by black people are the ones spreading the wrong message in Europe, Australia and in the US. We don’t give a damn about them; we are enjoying this beautiful country. Life is going on, they thought once they left every thing was going to disintegrate. They were wrong, we are about to host the World Cup and they are not content about it wherever they are. They started by saying the stadiums are not going to be ready. We put down the lid on their mouths, all the stadiums are completed. Now they are talking about the tickets sales, 2 millions tickets have been sold.

You must be a fairly young lad. The hustling days of Nigerians in South Africa are over. If yo uhave family or firends there whou can school you or have legitimate businesses there then they maybe be able to support you while you try to go to school and increase your skill level and value.

The key is you need TO GO TO SCHOOL!! or create an avenue to become skilled. If you don't have tha skill already it will be very diffcult for you.

The South Africans are not very friendly to Nigerians who are competing with them for limited unskilled labor.

Why do't you go on holiday. Scout the place out for yourself before jumping in with both feet
Re: South Africa by MWayne1: 7:40pm On Feb 17, 2010

How can I be discouraging you when I told you to visit first and see for yourself how things work before going over there to hustle.

The hustling of any kind of job you are talking about is not as easy as you may think. The only place left where people can hustle without being continually harrassed by the indigenes and the government I am sad to say is the USA and Canada. Although they are gradually tightening their laws.

The unemployment rate in SA is well above 20%. that of the us is steady at 10%. That should give you and idea of what is going on right now

Morpheus24 is wright, its difficult here. The days of hustling are over. Nigerians used to hustle on the streets and any where from the nineties to around 2006/7. The unemployment rate is around 20% and you will be competing with locals on jobs if you are coming to find work. Not only you will be hustling for work with locals, there are other foreigners also. You have around 5 million Zimbabweans who are also looking for work desperately, on the other hand you have around 1 million Somalians who dominate the informal trading. Around 1 million Mozambiqans, 1 million Congoleses(DRC), 500 000 Sudaneses, 1 million Nigerians who are hustling, Camerounian, Ivorians, Ghanian, Senegalese, Angolans, Malawians. You can see its a scrumble for resources. All of these people are looking for work, competing with the locals. Its not Surprise when you see the Unemploymnet at around 20%.

The employment sector also absorbs the foreigners in some low paying jobs like Security Gourds, Gardeners and domestic workers which are dominated by people from Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Informal trading dominated by Somalians. Nigerians no body knows what they do. I am just giving you a summary of the whole picture. When you are here you wont be coming into contact with South Africans only, you will meet all sorts of people from mostly African countries and Asia. There is lots of Pakistanis, Indians and chinese. There is just too many foreigner who are scrumbling for resources to survive. Its a concrete gungle, it can eat you up and spit you out.

DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COME. WE DONT WANT TO SEE YOU BECOMING STATISTIC.
Re: South Africa by RSA(m): 12:04pm On Feb 18, 2010
Yes Wayne listen and take this old men advises,it's not as easy as you've been told.Education is the key,the problem in South Africa is not the lack of jobs, there is plenty of Jobs but you must have an education, experience and skills.

You don't want to hustle with a poor uneducated South African man for same jobs grin they will eat you alive grin.

But if you have all the things mentioned on the top, you'll enjoy a peaceful and happy life in RSA I promise you.South Africa is two countries in one, you've got the poor third world SA and rich first world SA,and based on your education,Skills and experience it will depend on which country you'll live in.

The poor third world RSA is tough, that is where alchohol is abused, most crimes happen there, most foreign people are found there, and because the resources are scarce there, people don't trust each other, xenophobic people live there.

First World South Africa will offer you good infrustructures, good private health system(medical aid is a must),safe neighbourhood, good schools for your kids, good nightlife, good life just like any european developed country. If you live in this South Africa your life will be complete and there wont be any need to go to europe for a better life cause every thing europe have SA will have it and more.

So choose Wayne you want to hussle in the third world SA or go to first World SA? Choice is yours.

Its true man. We dont really know what you guys do down here. But you are here, how you make a living, we really dont know. I always see a group of around 20 standing on the street for the whole days doing nothing, checking ladies. You ran away from Hillbrow to Sunnyside Pretoria. Every corner its a group of Nigerians. Good luck guys with whatever you are doing, but one thing that i can tell you is this place is not for the faint hearted. Its rough and no mercy. If you try to be clever you will meet your make very soon. If you obey the law, every thing becomes easy.
Re: South Africa by RSA(m): 9:26am On Feb 19, 2010
^^^1,2 I won't go to the extent of saying I don't know what Nigerians do in South Africa although the is a quite significant numbers of Nigerians and some West Africans in South Africa who just sit in the street corners in Hillbrow and Sunnyside and one wonders how they earn their living. But I also know a lot of Nigerians who are owning small busineses like Internet Cafe's,Clothing Stores and Hair Salon also there are lot of Professors,Doctors, teachers and other professionals in South Africa not forgeting that there is a big percentage of Nigerians who runs churches, big and small.

My point is we don't have to generalise, lately I have seen changed of attitude among most Nigerians in South Africa, there is less arrogance and there for make it easy to befriend locals or develop relationship.
