In Reference to this thread; Request For A Development Subsection I have read all the comments and have equally talked with the Admin, Unfortunately Sections or sub-sections are not just created without a critical analysis and synthesis of it's importance. Hence, we would like to hear the kinds of topics that would likely be discussed in the new Section. when it gets past 50 topics that are worth discussing on the Development section or whatever it might be called, it would give a clearer picture of what should be and not be in the section. The kind of Topics posted here would determine the success or failure of this commute. Please Don't spam this thread and lets be a little more pragmatic with this, Lets get the ball rolling, P.S Thread would remain sticky for a few days, |

Importance? What more do you want to be convince? More discussion? Or Do you need 7 Point Agenda for that? Or is it a Vision you are waiting for. If you have section for Tribalism, why cant you have section for development? |

This is going to be a great section. One can start with discussing findings of current research that can impact on the sustainable development of Nigeria, especially if adapated to Nigerian situations. Among others, it will be interesting to discuss: Environmentally-friendly alternatives to chemical fertilizers (the present chemical fertilizers used by farmers are toxic to the environment) Biocontrol of pest and diseases (so we do not have to use dangerous chemicals for pests, etc control) Use of bacteria and plants for metal pollution remediation in soil Use of plants to clean up oil spill (Beaf should like this) Nanotechnology and its applications in medicine, agriculture and environment, and how this can play out in a country such as Nigeria. |

We can gather DIY Instructables, for instance, youths in Brazil are using GPS phones to map their neighborhoods. I am particularly interested in discussing ideas to combat corrupt police officers. We can use mobile technology/Internet to expose officers requesting bribes. |

kosovo: That is a joke right? What kind of critical analysis and synthesis of importance was carried out to create the "Racism, Tribalism, Sectarianism" sub-section? The politics section is full of tribalism threads. Someone is asking for something constructive and you ask for 50 topics? Shocking! Epic Fail. *rolleyes* |
Re: Re: Request For A Development Subsection? Inputs Required by violent(m): 3:52am On Jan 08, 2010 |
Mariory: It has to be the moderators idea of a joke!. . . I mean why else will someone ask for 50 topics before he can see a good reason to include Development section on Nigerian's biggest forum, u guys don't get it, the dude is just kidding |

Most of the Topics listed can be found/discussed in several boards in Nairaland, The issue is, most people deliberately leaves such a thread behind. Decision on the issue would be communicated here soon as i am yet to brief the Admin on the status of the Process. Thank You, |

This is one of the better ideas I've seen on NL. Unfortunately, most people don't like thinking critically and so are more interested in useless bickering and shallow musings. |

Input required? Which other input you need again to create such an educative subsection. Abegi use can use it to replace the tribalism subsection that has no objective, but tribal and ethnic war. |

Can we start creating such Developmental threads here? Lets see how it Goes, When the interest level is High, the Admin would be take it up from there, That's the much i say currently. |
Re: Re: Request For A Development Subsection? Inputs Required by Beaf: 10:18am On Jan 09, 2010 |
kosovo: Is that a rejection? You put up very high stakes with the demand for 50 topics and we passed them in less than a day, that shows our determination to get things moving. The creation of such threads has already been tried, it just doesn't work in the politics section. Such topics obviously don't fit into the politics section where anything goes, development is a more deliberate and cerebral thing. Nigerian politics is about talking, taking the piss and promising hot air anyway; whereas, I am sure all who have posted here would rather put things in practice and physically change lives in every Nigerian hamlet, village, town and city. |
Re: Re: Request For A Development Subsection? Inputs Required by princekevo(m): 5:32pm On Jan 09, 2010 |
kosovo:They can go back to their families and continue it there. NL i assume was meant to be an educative site for the Nigerian youths and not an avenue for settling tribal score or tribal hatred, unless the initial vision of founder is lost. Am sure you will never accomodate a mad man in your home jst becoz you are afraid where he is gonna sleep in. There is a place made for mad people to stay. |

@Beaf (and others interested) This may be considered a selfish plug here, but is not meant to be. Sorry nairaland owners. Recall that we had made similar comments on the following thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-355552.0.html#msg4971838. At the time I referred to a potential new board as "Nigeria Solutions" or something similar. I was hoping that the initial request or your latest proposal would lead to the creation of such a board, but this seems unlikely. In the meantime I have set up a forum that is aimed at addressing this need. The forum would be focused on distilling useful information for practical application and as such is a companion to nairaland and other fora out there. What I realized in the process, and that the administrators of nairaland may be getting at, is that the issues involved can be located in many of the boards already on nairaland. However, these are not aimed at getting at practical solutions. It seems to require a separate forum specifically administered for that purpose. The forum is named "NaijaDialogueCentral". It is divided into two main sections. The first is an area where news and commentary on developmental issues occur, known as the "General Category", while the second is "Naija Solutions Central". Both categories have similar boards on them, but the second would host actual proposals and discussions aimed at producing actionable items. I am not an IT expert, so one need here is volunteers to help handle the IT issues. Most importantly, you and others who have posted on this topic could become full members to help moderate boards in either category. Your interest would seem to fit in the second category. The basic rules are the following: REGULAR MEMBERS are promoted to FULL MEMBERS after a couple of posts, and can then post new topics. GUESTS are allowed to leave comments on posts to encourage wider participation. These rules are to ensure that those who actually register are really interested in helping with organizing the forum, since no registration is needed to provide comments on posts. Those comments would be closely monitored to prevent the rapid degeneration that can sometimes occur here on nairaland - moderators would have powers to get rid of posts that are completely off topic or abusive or threatening, especially in the "Naija Solutions" category. The number of posts would however be controlled since GUESTS and REGULAR MEMBERS cannot post new topics. In the initial stages we would need to quickly upgrade regular members to full members to help moderate the boards. So please take a look http://www.nigeriaanew.org/forum/index.php Thanks. |
