Hello in the house,

The class starts today as promised and the first topic that shall be treated is

DEFINITION OF HAULAGE

Haulage is taken from the word "Haul" which means pull, extract or drag out forcibly.   Hence, Haulage means transporting of goods(products) from one place to another.   This distance(mileage) between the place of origin to the final destination is what the haulage business charge for.

Therefore, haulage business can simply be defined as business of making goods(products) available when and where they are needed.   Haulage starts from the point of extraction, loading, to the point of delivery of the goods(products) for the satisfaction of the final consumers.

Goods that are usually carried include:

a.     Petroleum products such as kerosine, petroleum, gas, diesel

b.     Building materials such as sand, clay, granite, etc

c.     Agricultural product

d.     Containers, generators, transformers, PHCN poles and other such heavy duty equipments

e.     Solid minerals and other finished products.

The distance charged for can be within the state of operation which is called "Local" or outside it called "Inter State". As well haulage can be done outside the country with other neighbouring countries such as Togo, Ghana, Republic of Benin.

Here we stop for today, I want you to comment on this first before we meet again on Monday. Have a nice time

Enjoy your SUCCESS!

Re: Free Training On Haulage Business In Nigeria by fullforce: 4:42pm On Jan 18, 2010
Hello everybody,

You are welcome to the class of free training on haulage business in Nigeria, I goofed a little in the last class by saying that:
Petroleum involves gas, diesel, petroleum, I mean to say petrol and not petroleum. Please forgive for the mistake.

Now please be informed that this class would be taken place only on Mondays and Thursdays, for I have my own business to pursue as well, as you know haulage business is not for a lazy man, especially when you are managing trucks for investors who are not ready to hear any kind of story.  Therefore, please bear with me.

Today's class is going to deal with:

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF HAULAGE IN NIGERIA

Haulage suppose to involve both railway and road, but since the collapse of rail system in Nigeria, road haulage has taken the lead. The transport sector is been given major boost by the three tiers of government.  The country has the enough population and roads' networks linking the 36 states to one another for smooth running of the business, though not as smooth as expected .  The transport sector is an important component of the economy impacting on development and the welfare of populations. When transport systems are efficient, they provide economic and social opportunities and benefits that result in positive multipliers effects such as better accessibility to markets and additional investments. Transport also carries an important social and environmental load, which cannot be neglected.

Haulage has the following importance in the society:

1.    Removing the material from their natural stage

2. Conveying raw materials to factory

3. Helping the producers conveying their goods to wholesaler (Distributors)

4. Helping the producers to reduce the content of the warehouse.  An efficient transport system offering cost, time and reliability advantages permits goods to be transported over longer distances. This facilitates mass production through economies of scale because larger markets can be accessed.  Thus, the more efficient transportation becomes, the larger the markets that can be serviced and the larger the scale of production.

5. Helping the wholesalers (Distributors) to get their purchased goods to their stores. Improvement in the efficiency with which firms have access to raw materials and parts as well as to their respective customers. Thus, transportation expands opportunities to acquire and sell a variety of commodities necessary for industrial and manufacturing systems.

6.    Increased competition. When transport is efficient, the potential market for a given product (or service) increases, and so does competition. A wider array of goods and services becomes available to consumers through competition which tends to reduce costs and promote quality and innovation.

7.    Increased land value. Land which is adjacent or serviced by good transport services generally has greater value due to the utility it confers to many activities.

8.    Haulage also contributes to economic development through job creation and its derived economic activities. Accordingly, a large number of direct (freighters, managers, shippers) and indirect (insurance, finance, packaging, handling, travel agencies, transit operators) employment are associated with transport. Producers and consumers take economic decisions on products, markets, costs, location, prices which are themselves based on transport services, their availability, costs and capacity.

9. The final consumers would be able to get their products.

In conclusion, Haulage makes goods and services available where and when they are needed.  It provides market accessibility by linking producers and consumers.

We are done for today, see you on Thursday 21st Jan,2010. I hope you are not bored by the lengthy lecture, am waiting for your response.  Keep login

It is WELL!

Hi,

One nairalander just sent a message to my email box requesting for my phone number and to include my email address in my posting for the public and these I never intend doing alongside the teaching, but for those that are eager to speak with me, please send your request to my email: strikerealgold@gmail.com which should include the following:

a.    Your full name
b.    Your phone number
c.    Your purpose of wanting to talk to me
and I shall send reply to your email.

Please forgive me if my action looks like a pride, I don't just want people to think am doing the posting to woo them unnecessary, though am not saying that am not open to doing business with people, infact I manage trucks for investors, but that is not my primary aim for this training. I want to share my three years worthwhile experience in haulage with everybody and you shall be a success this year.

See you on top. It is WELL!

hello class,

Am very sorry for not coming to class on Thursday as promised to deliver the day lesson. It was on Wednesday late in the night when I got home that my old woman reminded me of her appointment with the doctor the following day (Thursday) because she had eye surgrey on 23rd Dec.,2009 and She always love me taken her to the hospital and even I like it too because I owe everything I am today to her.

Secondly, my church had a 2-day marathon prayer programme on 22-23rd Jan, which just ended today not too long. by the Grace of God, the class resumes full on Monday 25th January. Thanks for your understanding. Together we shall make it.

See you on top, It is WELL!
