The National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) today commended Governor Samuel Ortom led administration, saying it has scored excellently on their welfare.
Speaking on behalf of the Benue state students, National NUBESS President Comr Akase Vera, congratulated Gov. Samuel Ortom for his charity and fatherly care towards Benue state students.
Comr Vera who made the commendation on behalf of Benue state students at 2017 Democracy day celebration held at Ibrahim Babangida square (IBB square) Makurdi made it clearly that Governor Samuel Ortom has placed Benue state students higher in his administration, saying the Governor has done a lot for the Union.
She called on the Governor to put more efforts to execute more projects that will have direct bearing to Benue Students and for the Union, pointing the National secretariat and construction of more classrooms and conducive lectures as examples of such projects.
The president also appealed to Governor to explore all ways to end the strike embarked upon by Benue state University Academic staff Union (BSUASUU), and called on all Benue state students to support the administration of Governor Ortom for more dividends and other benefits from the state Government.
The NUBESS boss was accompanied by Rt Comr Bobby Tavershima Bem the Fmr student Union president, Benue state University, Rt Comr Kehtyo Solomon, Fmr National president community of Tiv students and many other Distinguished student unionist In Benue state.
In a related development, Governor Samuel Ortom today announced government's subsidy on assorted fertilizers.
"Government has provide more fertilizers for farmers this year at a highly subsidized rate. Farmers would be required to pay only N4,000 per 50kg bag." He said
He also pledged to support farmers to access loans from the apex bank and other financial institutions for the development of the value chain of cash crops.
The governor who highlighted some of his achievements in the last two years stated that his administration executed a successful amnesty programme, secured accreditation for key health institutions in the State leading to the graduation of 152 Medical Doctors from the Benue State University and resumption of academic activities at the schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Makurdi.
He said he has completed the roads from Oshigbudu to Obagaji, and Zaki-Biam – Gbeji started by the previous administration.
In the health sector, he also listed the construction of 42 Health Care Centres, procurement and supply of ambulances and essential drugs as well as execution of water and sanitation projects in 31communities across the state.
The occasion was attended by thousands of Benue state indigenes at home and abroad.
