EVER DEPENDABLE GOD!

TEXT: JEREMIAH 17:12-18

KEY VERSE: “As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow thee: neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was right before thee.” (Jeremiah 17:16)

One night, a house caught fire and a boy, who was inside, could only escape to the roof. His father, on the ground with outstretch arms, called on him to jump, so that he would catch him. The boy could not see him, except the flame, smoke and blackness. He was afraid and protested “Daddy, I can’t see you.” The father replied, “But I can see you and that’s all that matters.”

In our dealing with God, what matters really is relying on His promises and not looking at the challenges we daily face. In our text, Jeremiah acknowledged God’s supremacy in all things. Jeremiah said God would put to shame those who had neglected Him while their names would be completely obliterated. With faith that God could also rescue him from his enemies, Jeremiah praised and appreciated Him for His favour, comfort and overflowing fullness. In spite of their derision, Jeremiah said that he was not deterred and that he would still look after the people, like a shepherd after his sheep, and would never have pleasure in their misfortune. He asked God not only shelter and protection from his enemies, but also prove to his attackers that they were guilty.

Let us conduct an introspection here! Are you deterred from doing God’s will because of people’s mockery? Do you take comfort in God’s business in spite of your challenges, or you abandon it because of the reproach of people? Yours is to rely on God for protection and help. Whatever challenge or sickness, must be taken to God for healing and deliverance. His hands can bind up the trouble conscience and heal the broken heart. As the greatest Physician, God can cure the worst of diseases. Trust Him.

“The Bible,” A.W. Tozer asserted, “recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin.”
This was what Asa, who ruled Judah for 41 years, could not realise. As a reformer, he embarked on total cleansing of his kingdom with the removal of the priests, who engaged in immorality. He also destroyed all the idols, including the one that his grandmother erected, and even removed her from being queen because of her involvement in idol worship. He was quite sincere in his reformation agenda.

The in-depth account of his reign in 2 Chronicles 16 revealed that when Baasha, king of Israel attacked Judah, Asa did not trust God anymore for assistance. Instead, he bribed Benhadad, king of Syria with gifts to break up all military relations with Israel to make Baasha end the attacks against his kingdom. Benhadad agreed and attacked some cities in Israel, which made Baasha to withdraw his offensive on Judah.

Prophet Hanani, reprimanded him, reminding him of the good outcome of his trust in God when the Ethiopians and the Libyans came against Judah. Instead of repenting in dust and ashes, Asa put the prophet in prison. Some contemporary Christians are like Asa. They begin to serve God very well but with time, they throw their faith to the wind. They often resort to self-management or carnal support. Is God dead or on vacation? No. He says, “call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me” (Psalm 50:15). We must learn to always trust Him completely in every situation. Our resolve during perplexing moment must be to trust less in the arms of flesh but fully in the everlasting arms.

Adolf Hitler, who does not need any introduction in history, at assumption of office in Germany, freely used Christian vocabulary, professed God’s blessing and Christian confessions, showed his pre-war tattered Bible and declared that he drew strength from it. These claims made people to welcome him as a man sent from God. But was he really a believer in Christ?
Our text is Jesus’ clear warning against hypocrisy which He spotted in the Pharisees’ lives. As one of them invited Him for a lunch, Jesus did not wash His hands as expected by the Pharisees. That, of course, triggered their censorship. Jesus, immediately, cashed in on the opportunity and firmly upbraided them for their wrong way of worship. They had many rules, which principally centred on outer things like washing cups and dishes. They emphasized these outward things, while failing to love God and exercise faith in Him. They paid their tithes but failed to take care of the needy. They always wanted to appear superior to others, desiring to be seen and respected. They were like graves with no marks, which people could walk upon without taking notice, and end-up wounded. Though they pretended to honour the prophets slain by their ancestors by building their graves, they did not obey what those prophets had taught them to do. Invariably, they behaved like their ancestors – approving their evil deeds.
Today, many so-called leaders still insist that people must follow unimportant rules while they themselves disregard God’s injunctions. At the end of time, God will tell them, “I never knew you: depart from me ye that work iniquity.” God wants us to have right thoughts and attitudes and be classic models of genuine transformation and purity.

REPENTANCE IS IT!

TEXT: JEREMIAH 32:1-15

KEY VERSE: “For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it” (Jeremiah 32:3)

Gipsy Smith, in his book, ‘The Bible Friend’, told a story of a Dutchman, who got converted during his service in South Africa. The next morning, he returned the watch he had stolen eight years earlier from another Dutchman. When asked why he brought the watch back, he said: “I was converted last night and I have brought it back first thing this morning. If you had been up, I would have brought it last night.”

The Jews, from our text, never considered repentance to be paramount in their lives. Instead, they felt Jeremiah was a threat to their existence. God had revealed their captivity to Jeremiah who delivered the message pointblank. Zedekiah, the king of Judah, was not comfortable with this prophecy. Therefore, he got him arrested and imprisoned, so that he could not prophesy and affect the people’s courage. Instead of going back to God to repent of their evil ways, they felt that Jeremiah was their problem, not their sins.

Today, that situation still plays out as there are those who accuse others of being the architect of their problems. They hardly consider the better option of having a proper self-examination and repenting where necessary. Some would even accuse an innocent elderly woman in their village as being the cause of their problem, while others would hinge their misfortune on their co-tenants or relatives.

As we pass through the challenges of life, our attitude must not be one of paranoia. There is no experience in life that God is not aware of. Even if men are responsible for the challenges we face, we must seek solace in God and commit all things to Him who can save to the uttermost and revenge on our behalf. Jeremiah was focused in serving God and refused to be bogged down by trivia. Do likewise.

There is no alternative to repentance for any who wants to escape the wrath of God.

4. Make me another Jeremiah in my community; who will not cease or be ashamed to preach repentance to the unrepentant.

When Dan Edwards was ordained as a missionary, Robert Murray McChenye, in a letter, advised him, “In great measure, according to the purity and perfections of the instruments, will be the success. It is not great talents, but God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God.”

From the text, Hezekiah did not take a cue from his father, Ahaz, having known that he did not live up to God’s expectation. Rather, he took after David, his ancestor, who was a man after God’s heart, and purged the land of Judah of all filthiness. The people had been enmeshed in sins and Hezekiah embarked on total reformation of Judah to enthrone the true worship of God. To be able to accomplish this mission, he removed all the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.

He broke into pieces the bronze snake, which Moses erected, under the instruction of God, to heal those bitten by snakes. But the bronze snake later became idol in the heart of the people. So Hezekiah destroyed and cleaned up everywhere, announcing a new dawn for the worship of true God. His trust in the Lord attracted divine favour in whatever he undertook. Hezekiah successfully rebelled against the king of Assyria. He defeated the Philistines, as far as Gaza, though he witnessed Israel’s journey to the Assyrian captivity.

What is your priority in life? To serve God or Satan? Enoch and Noah never allowed the lifestyle and the mockeries of people to deter them from following after righteousness. Moses did not let the affluence of Pharoah’s palace affect his resolve to serve God. Samuel never permitted the evil influence of Eli’s children to soil his relationship with God. SACRIFICE OF THANKSGIVING

TEXT: LEVITICUS 22:26-33

KEY VERSE: “And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will” (Leviticus 22:29)

The sacrifice of thanksgiving is mentioned several times in the Old Testament. It is first mentioned in Leviticus 7:11-15. These verses seem to indicate that the sacrifice of thanks giving is actually a peace offering that is motivated by appreciation to God. This type of offering included an animal sacrifice as well as various cereal or bread offerings. Like all peace offerings, it was voluntary, offered by the worshiper on those occasions when he was motivated to express thanksgiving to God.

Secondly, it was shared into three portions, to the Lord, the priest, and the worshiper. This contrasted with other types of offering, which were either entirely burnt (except for the skin) on the altar as an offering to the Lord, or partly burned on the altar and partly consumed by the priest. But for the peace offering offered as a sacrifice of thanksgiving, the protocol was different. After the Lord and the priest had received their portions, the worshiper who brought the sacrifice would take the remaining portions of the meat and the bread to prepare a feast in which family and friends who were ritually pure could share. Any of the meat not consumed on the day the sacrifice was offered had to be destroyed by burning.

While the Old Testament system of animal sacrifice is now obsolete due to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, there are some principles here that continue to speak to us today. Though thanksgiving honours God, He does not coerce us into it. Such expressions of gratitude must flow freely from the depth of the heart to God who is the ultimate Source of all blessings in our lives. We show gratitude to God practically by sharing His benevolence with other believers: paying fees of the underprivileged, hospital bills for the sick, rent for the homeless and sharing food items with others.

COVENANT KEEPING GOD

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 23:1-11

KEY VERSE: “And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.” (2 Chronicles 23:3)

It is amazing how we sometimes imagine God to be forgetful. Using our own human limitations as a yardstick, we reason that if God’s promises seem to linger in being fulfilled in our lives, He probably must have forgotten, got busy or become unconcerned about our state. But God will not say anything He cannot or will not do. He promised David a sure kingdom and establishment of his throne forever. It was an unconditional covenant which God fulfilled in spite of disobedience by the descendants of David. Not even a rebellious people would negate God’s covenant to David. The message of God’s covenant with David extends beyond the implications of the Old Testament.

God promises a glorified Christ and His Millennial Kingdom to all who will come into a covenant relationship with Him. Covenant blessings always exemplify God’s abundant mercies and flow to us through Christ’s death and resurrection.

Just as David was guaranteed the blessings and benefits of the initial covenant of grace that is made with us through the promised Messiah, “ … the mediator of a new covenant” that those who are called may “receive the promise of eternal inheritance”. God does not make rash utterances. He is everything man is not, when it comes to consistency and dependability. Man often proves his natural limitation whenever he breaks a covenant with another person. It is a reflection of his innate changeability.

But God is very faithful. The faithfulness of God provides a sure anchor that remains steadfast amidst the uncertainties and vicissitudes of life for the true believer. As a child of God, look away from your natural human limitations, the instability of your environment and the inconsistency of your fellow humans, and abandon all your worries and cares in the mighty hands of our dependable God.

Job Purpose

Applicants shall be responsible for the revenue growth of the company’s products and services as well as developing and adopting effective sales strategies to deliver profitable revenue streams through engagement with both external and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

Achieve and surpass assigned monthly sales targets
Identify, initiate and convert leads for the company
Organize and facilitate Interactive sessions
Effectively communicate and follow through with client requests
Maintain and update comprehensive customer database.
Consistently identify value to our customers by leveraging the various resources within the company
Proffer possible strategies/ways to improve sales and relating to customers.
Identify key opportunities outside of the company’s existing network and appropriately position the company to capture the business and revenue streams

Preferred Qualification and Experience

Minimum of a First Degree in any discipline
Minimum of 2 - 3 years experience with exposure in business development, sales and relationship management.
Must be resident in the FCT
