OP, what happened to Wellington Basey and how did he die? Again, how come he was not appointed the GOC nor handed the command of any of the two brigade commands after the exit of the British officers?

I believe W.U Bassey died in 1988.

Where do you get your information that Maimalari attended the listed institution--Stop writing what you think and making it look like what you know--nonsense
kingzizzy:

Think of it this way. Someone with HND and another with masters degree start working in the same organisation. Which of them is likely to be be promoted faster? Of course the Master Deegree holder.

Take Bassey(N1) and Maimalari(N5) for example. Bassey was a serving soldier when he was selected from the lower ranks and sent on a 3 months "short service" officers course to England. On completion of the course, he became the first Nigeria officer and was given the Army number (N1).

Maimalari finished secondary school, was recruited into the Army and sent to :

Regular officers training school (ROSTS)

Eaton Hall military cadet school, England

Royal military Academy, Sandhurst.

It took Bassey only 3 months to be an officer while it took Maimalari 3 years.

Maimalari was far more qualified than Bassey. Thats why by 1965, Maimalari was already a Brigadier and Bassey was still a Lt Colonel

This is why Ijaw were the major complainants during the old eastern region, they lacked the human resource, but they claim igbos were marginalizing the minorities, meanwhile the Ibibios had huge human resource and occupied prominent positions in old eastern region and nigeria at large

I see a balanced list of army officers from all the tribes of the nation. Unlike now where the people from the northern extracts have personalized the Nigerian army....as a matter of fact, the Hausa language is the official language if the army.

How did Ojukwu rise ahead of Philip Effiong when Effiong was already a Captain while Ojukwu was just a lieutenant?

There are too many foolish dolts in Nigeria and these animalistic elements are aware of history but choose to distort it.

All tribes were well represented in the first ever Nigerian military coup with Yoruba and Igbos toping the list. Even the north, middle belt and south south were well represented.

Funny thing is, whenever these demons talk about the coup, they blame Igbos but when we tell them Delta-Igbo (home of Major Kaduna N.; one of the major mastermind behind the coup) are Igbos, they begin to foam in the mouth.

Why are you rejecting your own when it comes to putting searchlight on matters. In your ears, does "Nzeogwu" sound Deltan or Igbo? Why clinching onto Delta-Igbo appellation just because of boundary and demarcation of the Nigerian states. Please accept the fact that the destruction of the destiny of the entity called Nigeria was orchestrated by ONLY ONE TRIBE and that's the reason for the distrust and anger in the land.
You owe the Nation an unreserved apology and stop blaming anybody for your problems

Bassey joined the Nigeria Army in 1936 so, he was already an experienced soldier before he was commissioned. I am not sure Maimalari attended all the schools you listed above before he was commissioned as an officer and before this picture was taken in 1959. Again, why was he not sent on similar training like his other colleagues?

Maimalari was the first Nigeria to attend Sandhurst. He was commisioned in 1953. Bassey was commisioned in 1948. Google Zakari Maimalari

Going by the comments here, there is simply no love or unity among Nigerians. Why are we pretending that Nigeria is best the way it is now. We are only postponing the dooms day.
