Good day honorable housemates,

your son is stepping up to 48V system in no time;

and based on user reviews . .i am still undecided on which particular inverter brand(s) to go for except the CC (which will be a 60A Tristar)

so i need personal reviews on inverter brand which would do best at 48V at somewhere around 4kWp panels

Thanks

If low budget, the MustPower PowerStar (EP series or VIL) would do fine. I presume you'd be conversant with its idle power consumption and operating temperature bracket of 60oC to 65oC.

A Prag would serve almost as well. For mid-range budget, speak with Victron users (local and international reviews look good).

If you would be willing to splurge, Outback (VFX 3048E or the FXR series) or Magnum (MagnaSine series).

YOUR LOAD IS TOO HIGH, and your design would gulp over 5m naira, in batts/panels/charge controller etc, confirm you are willing to spend upto 75% of that, so as not to waste anybodys time here .
a simple guide, energy in a 12v 200ah battery is 2400wh, energy you can safely use = 1200wh...... 1200wh can power a 1200w load for 1hr, power 600w load for 2hrs, power 50w load for 24hrs etc

Am newbie

i have total watthour of 65550wh

divide the wh by 4 to get watts of the panel required for Nigeria on a good day so at least 16.5 KW panels assuming efficiency loss etc at 20 % at least 20 KWp so for 300 watts per panel you need say 66 panels which itself is 4 million approximately

Now remember almost all energy is generated from 9 am to 4 pm ( in 7 hours ) so you need a battery system which can absorb the 10kwh per hour which is 10kwh/50volts = 200 amp . that is atleast 2000 AH 48 V battery bank for flooded or 750 AH for AGM

Plus atleast 4-5 charge controllers of 80 amps

using 3kva 48v inverter system

how many panels do i need assuming i am using 300w PV module?

what connection arrangement can i use?

what size of charger controller do i need?

it is easier and cheaper to load shed or change the appliances to energy efficient unless you are running a factory or business which justifies the price premium

Despite experiencing few challenging moments with my flooded Trojan T105 batteries. if I am to make a choice again for myself, I'll go for them again.
it's gonna be 4 years ( June 2014) since I got those Batts. Brilliant performance since I began to obey the law ( never discharge below 48.5v except when extremely necessary). My 4kw array ensures daily absorption charge.
I also included a 1KVA 48V Telecom inverter which now works 24hrs daily which powers my fridge (once in a while it goes off due to start up surge) too. The power hungry 5kva Mustpower now works anytime I need to power other heavy appliances.

Surge protector ( MNSPD AC AND DC) is highly recommended Now that the rain loves to strike lightening. For those in their own house, ensure you install a full lightening storm arrestor( the one on the roof top) it should be done according to guidelines for effectiveness.

Here is how to resolve the excessive mustpower series temperature issue by changing the position of the temperature sensor so the fan comes on at 40 degrees vs 65degrees.
step 1: Locate the temperature sensor on the heat sink(first picture)
step 2:Increase the length of the temperature sensor wire by adding additional wires so it can reach the transformer
step 3:Loose one nut of the transformer lamination holder and use a big washer to fix the temperature sensor to the transformer as shown(third picture)

whatsapp me for further clarification(see my signature)

Many thanks!!! Very explicit!!!

I prefer to USE the Single Pole MCB and contractor built in instead of one single contactor. This allows you to force individual loads or circuits to stay on NEPA or inverter if you choose or switch by timer based on your usage .e.g. weekdays keep fridge on Inverter as teh afternoon load is small when kids at school. Weekends Frdidge off but TV on inverter . Added advantage is you just replace the existing MCB no Seprate DB requited or create a DB with Rows of MCB saving space and money

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MKWCT-25M-Manual-220V-240V-Universal-Home-Household-AC-Contactor-Modular-Modulus-25Amps-2P-2-Two/32671904971.html?

[/quote

Sir, you mean you just replace existing MCB with the MCB contactor? Any specialized wiring to achieve this? The control coil of the contactor will be fed from PHCN right?
Your experience would be welcome.
Many thanks
