Ibadan set for new, ultra-modern housing estates

In recent times, the global housing sector has been witnessing a great transformation in the conception, design and delivery of new and revolutionised housing units complete with modern facilities. This global trend is set to be replicated in Ibadan, Oyo State and obviously, the largest city in West Africa with the plans to complete and deliver the Lakeside Estate, Idi-Ishin and Transformation Estate, Elenusonso, both Ibadan. With these, the city is set to join the league of major cities in the world with exquisite housing schemes that will give exciting times to residents of the city.

To be developed in phases, the two projects are to be handled by Transformation Housing Development Company Limited and HCP Architectural & Engineering Limited, in conjunction with the Oyo state government. The two estates would provide affordable and quality housing in Ibadan.

To be built under the state’s Transformation Housing’s Luxury & Affordable Schemes, when completed, the estates will accommodate no less than 2,000 families or more. By their conception and design, the estates would revolutionise the Residential Real Estate market in Ibadan and the South West in general with several innovative and complementary facilities that would be built into them.

The housing units will come in different typologies including: Three-bedroom bungalows, three-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses; four bedroom maisonette and detached houses; as well as five bedroom detached houses. The prices are estimated to be in the neigbourhood of N10 million for the three-bedroom bungalows under the Affordable housing scheme, and between N20 million to N50 million for the Luxury units.

In line with the state government’s transformation agenda, this partnership would be building a self-sufficient housing estates, which would boast of such modern facilities like modern landscaping and green areas, Sewage Treatment Plant, recreation ground, schools for the estate residents and the neighbourhood, all round the clock security system, 24 hours electricity supply through renewable energy and solar power etc.

In their quest to own their dream homes, subscribers would enjoy the benefits of making payments through a flexible plan, with the possibility of a mortgage option.

Transformation Housing Development Company Limited and HCF are not unaware of the challenge of maintenance of real estates in Nigeria, as a result of this, at the completion of the two estates, the companies plan to engage the services of a reputable facility management company. This is to ensure that subscribers continue to get great value for their investments years down the line.

Speaking on the project, Prince Jacob Esan, the Managing Director of Transformation Housing Development Limited, said the objective of the scheme is to deliver the projects as swiftly as possible.

Also speaking, Olawale Demola, the Managing Director of HCP Architectural & Engineering Limited, said the projects would transform the state by the development of an excellent residential estate, using the two companies’ expertise and experience acquired on the field for many years. According to him, the choice of Ibadan for the estates is strategic because of the numerous business and commercial opportunities that exist in the state.

Esan agreed with Demola and gave reasons for the choice of Ibadan. According to him, the projects were borne out of a necessity to provide accommodation for the growing population of Ibadan. The Ibadan Master Plan estimates that the city will have a population of about 11.3 million by 2036, especially in Ibadan Central. This, Esan said implies that there is a serious need to decongest the city by building new settlements and mini-towns.

Besides, he said, the increasing number of Ibadan indigenes in the diaspora wanting to relocate to the city, the increasing population of Lagos a ‘neighbouring’ city, have made it imperative to embark on the projects. This, according to him, is more so, because “Lagos is projected to be over 25 million by 2025, and many more Lagosians are seeing the ease of working in Lagos, and living in Ibadan.”

Not only these. Esan said the projects are also “buoyed by the fact that the Federal Government has recommenced the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Way, and the take-off of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project. With the increasing emphasis on regionalisation in Nigeria, Ibadan would rightfully take its place, once again, as the capital of the South West.

Aje House, Ibadan, Nigeria

Competition winning entry for the redevelopment of Aje House - an iconic modernist tower at the heart of Ibadan’s Central Business District - and adjoining parcels to create SMART offices and a mix of supporting facilities.

As part of an invited design competition, a Master Plan has been prepared for the redevelopment of a core area of Downtown Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria. This includes the rennovation of Aje House - a 14 storey tower, podium and cluster of smaller buildings and structures amounting to 2,560 m2 of prime commercial space.

Within the resultant proposal, the core of the existing structure is retained while the podium is extended to provide a range of supporting retail, commercial and hospitality activities and present a ‘front door’ to Lebanon Road; one of Ibadan’s commercial spines. A separate structure seeks to accommodate parking requirements while a roof top restaurant, bar and lounge frames a view to Mokola Hill and Agobi Gardens.

The Company Disrupting Ibadan’s Tech Ecosystem.

The Spontaneous rise of technological need in Ibadan has gone beyond the rails due to the continuous existence of human life and the voracious hunger for a better standard of living.

So it is of necessity that certain liaisons should rise that will cu short the long line between the People and Technology basically Networking.
We live in a digitally dominating world. Technology is shaping our culture like never before. Yet over and over again I hear the same question: “how does it affect my business, school, home, laundry, my profession, church, laundry, career, education, my children? How can I leverage on this opportunity to gain a competitive advantage and keep up with trends?”

That`s why the eventual consistence of structural internet platforms like iBridge is of utmost importance, so that the networking of the business and tech space is always on the run. Structures like this will effectively contribute to the building of a well engineered tech-ecosystem. This will give a rise to newly arising startups that will make use of mediums like iBridge to foster the growth of their products and services.

On October 1st, 2012, the founder of iBridge Hub, Francis Madojemu began the iBridge Hub as an inspiring contemporary open space where young entrepreneurs and innovators in the city of Ibadan can bring their ideas to reality. iBridge Hub welcomes people from every profession, background and culture are being united by the imagination and drive to pursue enterprising ideas for the world.
A platform where Children, Youths, Educators and Parents can learn this essential 21st Century skill. To give every child in our community the chance to learn to code. To equip the nextgeneration with this essential skill.

Programmes since inception are monthly fireside chats, Internet Marketing Classes, which were both offline and on-site, ICT and IT trainings, active web and social media management workshop on strategies to help the community grow faster, better, smarter in business, life and ministry. They have also incubated and cultured a number of community projects and co-created events that are geared towards bridging technology for the benefit of the public.

We are facing tremendous times where corruption, recession, poverty are almost ravaging every sector of our economy, In the midst of devastation, there is an opportunity for innovation.
iBridge Hub is evolving to leverage the talents of the local tech industry to address some of the needs in the wider community. Social opportunities are as important as the economic opportunities created by entrepreneurs and tech experts.
They are also recognizing existing technology that can be applied to solve problems across local businesses, professions, individuals, schools, and are creating a bridge for these communities to know, experience and meet with the appropriate tech communities and learn how to apply this solve their local problems.

For this to happen, they must build a community of passionate and motivated group of people who want to do something more significant with their gifts than making money.
The way they accomplish this is in four steps:
Identifying existing relevant innovation that can be applied to our environment, culture and businesses;
Presentation of these innovations to relevant corporate organizations and entrepreneurs across businesses and careers

Collaboration and development of these new innovations- innovating solutions to address these needs as it relates to our society and corporate organizations.

Their Big Hairy Audacious Goal is to become the most impactful, the most service-oriented, the most far-reaching hub community network that has ever been.

‘The tech landscape in Ibadan is rapidly evolving’

‘We are sure that great technology solutions are going to rise faster to create a revolution’

iBridge Hub is really making more waves in Ibadan these days than before and Oluwamayowa Oshidero, is the Head Ninja in charge of the hub. Few weeks from now, the hub will be hosting Summer of Code sessions for kids and teenagers. In this exclusive interview, Oshidero tells IBPulse all about the program but I started by asking for his opinion on the tech landscape in Ibadan.

What can you can say about the tech landscape in Ibadan?

I think the tech landscape in Ibadan is rapidly evolving, with agencies like TinklingD working day and night to attract, create and support interesting initiatives to develop the eco system. And with rise of hubs like Wennovation hub, iBridge Hub, C Map IT Hub, we are sure that great technology solutions are going to rise faster to create a revolution here. The serenity of the city is a great thing too and a lot of technology companies are gradually migrating and expanding their base into Ibadan.

What can be done to speed up the growth rate of the ecosystem?

The most crucial thing needed now is sponsorship and funding for local tech products and ideas here. We are really glad with the Aso Villa Demo Day initiative and it’s power to help the nations tech landscape if done well, actually one of the innovation we put forth at the iBridge Hub was one of the ideas that earned a spotlight. So we are calling the IBM, the Oracle, the Samsungs, the Google to look into Ibadan and finance great initiatives, sponsor code labs, workshops and even meetups like IBPulse ‘s After5ive.

In simple English, tell me about the Summer of Code

Summer of Code is a program that was started by CC Hub years ago. It’s a fun and interactive programming school for kids and teenagers at their summer holiday. iBridge had been organizing iCode in the past years too, but thought it would be a better way around to work with CC Hub to extend the Summer of Code into Oyo State (as other hubs and centers are extending it to other parts of the country) in a bid to create a huge impact.

What is ccHub contributing that made you decide to set aside iCode for Summer of Code?

Well, their more experimented curriculum and then for the main fact of creating a connected impact in the country.

Who are you targeting with Summer of Code?

We are targeting, kids in primary school 5 – 8 years, growing ones also in early secondary schools 9 – 14 years and then school leavers of age 15 – 18 years. We are reaching them through socials, and widely read platforms like IBPulse. Fliers for this would be out in days time for pickups at popular stores, schools and other public places.

THE NEED FOR YOUTHS INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS.
By
Okafor Benjamin C 08165200568

For The Team That Works(TTTW)

Politic by definition could be said to be actions or activities concerned with achieving or using power in a society,
It can equally be defined as the ways that power is shared in a society/state and also the practice of the distribution of power and resources within a given society cum interrelationships between communities .
It is often said that politics is about power as many people opined but even at that , it affects our daily lives and is everywhere, so the need to participate in it actively is highly appreciated and solicited .
Aristotle once said that a man is by nature a political animal i,e , politically inclined yet vast majority of Nigerian youths chose to be apolitical but crave for change, it may interest you to know that in Nigeria today, that approximately 60 percent entire population is dominated by registered eligible youths who can vote, and a likelihood that 50 percent of those youths are under 30years who can vote but not be political aspirants due to the unfortunate circumstance of the Nigeria political system, why then should majority of us be apolitical?
....Meanwhile, the few are important of youths participation in politics
1: Civic engagement--- the involvement of youths in politics leads to civic engagement as it includes health education and charity work
2: Political engagement---This is a more targeted aspect of civic engagement as it can be expressed through voting and electioneering
3: Breaking the status quo in the countries of dictatorship, this will give room for younger generations with fresh ideas to be engaged in the decision making as protests or rebellion led by youth leaders can force stubborn government to succumb and do the needful
4: Youths active involvement in politics will lead the government attending to their needs holistically and wholesome because, keenly looking at things our apolitical nature has made most of our needs or issues go unheard.
5; Lastly , A better and workable society--- Our involvement will possibly change the mindsets of our representatives as they will be afraid of being removed from their various elected positions should they fail to fulfill the promises they made....
So, as 2019 is fast approaching, i urge each and everyone of us to identify with this common umbrella 'THE TEAM THAT WORKS'(TTTW) as it has reached virtually all the 36 states of the federation in educating our teeming apolitical youth on the need to be involved politically in the building of this great nation of ours and desist from hallucinating............
