Communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting of Anambra state Disability Forum (ASDF) Comprising representatives of Disability Community from the 21 LGAs on 16th August 2017 at Awka.
The Disability Community has been informed of the attempt been made by some people and certain Politicians to give money to certain Persons with disabilities to criticize the executive Governor of the State, the number one Disability friendly Governor in Nigeria running the most Disability inclusive administration in the country. We also heard that they are making a calculated and pretentious move to dislodge Akpokuedike Global from this enviable position of ''Number one Disability inclusive Governor in Nigeria''.The Disability Community further states that the only way to compete with Akpokuedike for this position is to do and surpass what he has done.At this point, nobody has and nobody can.Therefore, we make it clear that Akpokuedike's position as number one Disability inclusive Governor is incontrovertible for for the following reasons:
1.His Excellency Governor Obiano increased feeding allowance of BASDEN Isulo from #50,000 to #500,000 on assumption of office.
2.BASDEN Isulo which was under disrepair was rehabilitated
3.Building of two accessible rehabilitation centers in Anambra State for the training and empowerment of PWDs
4.Provision of over 500 artificial limbs to persons with Physical Disabilities through Her Excellency's pet project.
6.Recognition of Persons with disabilities for the first time who won medals during Para Olympic games by given cash reward,
Promotion and employment
7.Appointment of Senior Special Assistant on Disability matters (a visually impaired who is a legal luminary) which is the first time in the history of Anambra State.
8.Appointment of two Persons with disability into a prestigious rank of Permanent Secretary
9.Appointment of Special Assistant on sign language Communication to give deaf community sense of belonging in Government programs and activities
10.Appointment of SSA on special education and SA on Special schools respectively.
11.Empowerment of over 200 skilled Persons with Disabilities with tools and equipment to sustain them economically.
12.Free transportation scheme to PWDs(red buses)
13.Free Education to Pwds
14.Setting up an advisory committee on the establishment of Disability service commission
15. Directing that all projects executed in Anambra State be Handicapped accessible.
16.Above all, His Excellency Chief Dr.Willie Obiano under this economic recession where some states are finding it difficult to pay salary has the moral courage to employ Ndi Anambra with disabilities with different educational level into State civil service etc
Persons with disabilities in Anambra State have not had it so good until APGA Government came on board and as a result we deemed it necessary to unequivocally stated that the votes of the Disability Community in Anambra State are not for sale.
We hereby Endorse Akpokuodike, Ogugua Ndi Olusi for second tenure.
