Pidgin2: No need arguing with you, you just showed you are a dunce, you sit in your room and assume. I thought I'm arguing with someone who knows what she is saying. Just negodu... See if you lost your passport or wanna correct of change details you must come to abuja even if you have stayed 20years in USA. Its only done on the approval by the ACG passport. People travel from oversee just to replace lost passport or change details like name or date of birth.. Abeg go sleep. |

BabaAlabi: Driving licence is done online. I have done mine repeatedly and paid online without paying any extra cash to anybody. It's only people that are not patient and want to cut corners that pays extra. |
Re: Immigration Bans Cash Payments At Passport Offices by agabusta: 3:07am On Aug 29, 2017 |
erico2k2: This is a very bad idea. The payment mode presently is the best. The person holding the POS can decide to make it available to people who had tipped him/her while the rest of you will be on an endless queue. You can't imagine how wicked and callous some of this govt officials are. They just need more supervision by competent, honest and patriotic Nigerians to ensure the process from start to finish is completed by NIS officials without any mandatory tip. 1 Like 1 Share |

kaikubura: Kudos to you! I just really wish your comment was on the front page. That is the spirit. Nigerians will be complaining as if it is Angels that will come from heaven to make a stand for them. And people like you that make a stand for what is just and right, they will even be talking down on you as if you are not smart or you are stingy. Our major problem is just that we as a people are not organised, like to cut corners and are not patient. We like to get things done ahead of every other person thinking it is smartness, there is chronic selfishness in us. It is this mentality that corrupts the whole process of things in Nigeria and it thereafter becomes a norm. Keep it up. It is few people like you that will drive the change Nigeria requires. That is same thing I always do when renewing my driving licence. I pay online, then go to their office, ready to spend as much time as needed. And I always get my license without paying extra. Which passport office did u use please? 3 Likes 1 Share |

agabusta: Kudos to waste of time. Because time is unlimited. Money . Morals. VS Time. Best to use my time sleeping at home than trying to change a system that's paralyzed. The corruption in the system is caused by the people at the top because they are too corrupt to do their jobs. This is an open crime. it's not hidden. am sure even if their DG walked in there they wouldn't know. but their DG's priority is to rake in corrupt money than do his job. or they don't have HR Department? What are these guys doing there?... what's special about capturing of data. it's data entry work. no different from when a bank takes your details. or what's there in using a webcam, a signature pad and a thumb print. same thing waec and jamb does everyday Let them fire everyone there. Hire fresh ond, hnd and bsc graduates who need jobs badly. Give them daily target of work to be delivered. Install security cameras. And define the workflow expectations on how everything should be. anyone who cuts corners will be suspended immediately. These things are not rocket science. it's just the incompetence of the guys at the top. The fact is that the real problem of corruption is not just the loss of money that people shout about but the real loss is the chaos and incompetence it causes. 1 Like 1 Share |

I was at the Ibadan office if the immigration to renew my passport which they called reissue few weeks back ,I was forced to part with 27k. That is not the story ,but the details is more interesting. When you get to the Ibadan office ,you will hardly found any staff on seat ,all of them including senior and junior will be parading and roaming the streets looking for customers . Tout have been effectively integrated as immigration staff. The files and documentation are all handled by some business centres situated and owned by the staff inside the place just by the area where the visitors are made to seat. As early in the morning you will find them at the adjoining street almost opposite the NYSC office drinking beer and choice bush meats with free money from mugu . I came across a story of lady who paid directly and handled the process by herself , her file has not been found for over 6 months for capturing . Lots of people are frustrated even after collecting the money . A look at the capturing room is a sorry state . The place is fairly cold ,only one Stalin era A/C is working ,the other rusted AC is am eyesore ,and only two machines are deployed to take care of hundreds of people daily ,hence equipments breakdown is in order . At the collection room ,a very small room like a guard post taking care of hundreds of people daily ,the AC is not working at all . Very stuffy and hot with no space , thumbprinting becomes an issue in the afternoon since the manchine will have overworked in a very hot condition ,just a manchine .Therefore you find people soaking hand in ice blocks and water melon and lots have to come back following day to do the capturing for collection . Lots of passports are left uncollected at times due to frustration after official extortion. The senior officers hardly pay attention to the crowd. It's as if they are doing you a favour getting you passports . The solution is that no cash should be accepted ,payment must be made by ATM cards to ensure proper verification ,and monitor shady deals ,secondly please provide the timeline from payment to interview ,capturing and collections . Thirdly give out phone numbers ,SMS, responsive Twitter accounts to call and report cases . Lastly set up a body to move around and decongest the waiting room ,if possible transfer and punish officials doing the delay and the head of the station where service delivery is bad . 4 Likes |

You're part of the people that make the system more paralyzed. Do you think healing a paralyzed system happens by chance? No, it takes time sacrifice from dedicated people. Please change your mindset bro damola1: 1 Like 1 Share |

Bro, do you know that customers possess the power to change a business either positively or negatively. If those who patronise these officers decide to stop, what do you think will happen? Of course, they will have no choice than do the correct thing. damola1: 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: Immigration Bans Cash Payments At Passport Offices by Nobody: 8:02am On Aug 29, 2017 |
ab3458: Bros the application can only be done in abuja by yourself. You have to write letter to the ACG in charge of passport at headquarters and wait for approval which is never approved till you grease their fingers. Anyone processing it for you outside abuja is an agent who knows someone in abuja and will write the letter for you for approval. That you know a sincere officer willing to help you doesn't mean everyone will fall in hands of good officers. Many of them are pure scammers. |

Re: Immigration Bans Cash Payments At Passport Offices by agabusta: 11:56am On Aug 29, 2017 |
erico2k2: The present mode of payment is not a problem at all. It is fine, you can choose to pay online or go physically to a bank to pay. Payment is not actually done at their office, even though a lot of people pay cash to the officers, they will still take it to the bank to pay or pay it online using a card. That is why I said the introduction of POS is not needed at all. As it would give them power over the payment again, something they don't have even now. The major problem are those guys at the office, they are the ones frustrating the entire process making it seem very complicated just to ensure people have no option than to give them cash to do it for them. As you suggested, outsourcing it is another very good option, but the Govt may be concerned about releasing its database to a private entity. What is VAC as per the bold? |

damola1: It is not only incompetence at the top, it is incompetence at all levels ably supported by cowardly masses who cannot challenge the status quo. Change must be driven by everybody at everywhere we get to. The process is this rotten because a lot of Nigerians are chicken-livered and like to get things done fast fast. We want the best of everything, but we are not ready to pay the price. Civilized society where things run normally, they have paid the price in time past! So from your comment, if the Head of the Organisation refuse to drive the needed change and is corrupt, everybody should keep quiet and let things continue, till Heaven brings a saint to head the organisation?? It is this kind of mindset that has made all our institutions totally corrupt. Nigerians are cowards that cannot stand for their right, even when few people want to stand for their right, people like you will discourage them, that nothing can be changed and so the whole process just continue like that. For your information, if more and more people stand their ground and people around them give them the necessary support, the fraud will reduce. It is people like you that are always in a hurry that has ensured the sustenance of the corruption. No matter the system introduced, if the people at the receiving end don't say enough is enough to hanky panky and smart moves by the people running things, they will still devise a means of ripping off the masses. |
