No, it didnt say that at all.

It said it will take 9 billion rand to replace some of our older equipment and to put our military on par with the standards we have set for it.

We are the most advanced military in Southern Africa, this is an indisputable fact

going by the situation in other regions like europe Asia and the caribean you may be right. But may i remind you that africa can easily be classified as a nation of people binded together by a common skin colour, common history, common failures, common struggle, common injuries and common victories i.e. the victory over slavery, colonialism, apathied , racism and economic woes of newly independent states. We re unique my good friend. You cannot compare the bond that binds african states with that of any other nations on earth except the Arabs
african bond surpassed that of any other continent or region?,what of the european union?,the NATO?,africans by nature are extremely independent people,if african bond was the best why hasnt SA sent aid, health officials into ebola zone?dlamani zuma that is preaching african solidarity, where is SA or egypt aid in somalia, libya and south sudan.even the north africans consider themselves arabs!.we need integration like NATO

www.timeslive.co.za/specialreports/stinvestigations/2013/11/13/rooivalk-plays-key-role-in-routing-rebels

In a fortnight of fighting in the eastern Democratic
Republic of Congo, Congolese army troops drove
the rebels from their strongholds.
M23's shelling of civilians prompted the 3000-
strong UN force, which includes 1345 South
African troops, to join the final battle this week.
General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz,
commander of the UN forces, told the Sunday
Times that the Rooivalk had proved its worth.
Last Sunday, the rebels bombed the town of
Bunagana, killing six civilians and injuring 10. "It
was important to silence their weapons, using a
combination of artillery and helicopters," said
Cruz.

The Rooivalk went into action on Monday against
the rebel positions.
Cruz said the Rooivalk had "performed very well
as reinforcement to the mission" and would be
deployed in future attacks.
"They are very good aircraft - very precise with
very good technology. We need this kind of fire
power for our missions."

The attack on Monday marked the end of the 20-
month M23 rebellion. On Monday evening, African
heads of state meeting in Pretoria, including
Congo president Joseph Kabila, issued a joint
declaration that the M23 must publicly renounce
its rebellion. By Tuesday morning, the Congolese
army occupied all key M23 positions around
Bunagana.
Bunagana is 80km north of Goma, which was
shelled by M23 rockets in August before the
rebels were driven off strategic hills overlooking
the town by an offensive that left three South
Africans wounded.

South African special forces troops said this week
that they had used mortar and sniper fire to
dislodge the rebels. "They fled to Rwanda after
we took their positions," said a South African
soldier.

By late this week, the charred remains of M23
military vehicles were the only visible signs of
these battles.
Life is returning to normal in these towns after
more than a year under M23 occupation. Markets
are thronging with people and peasants are
returning from their fields carrying grass, wood
and sugar cane or pushing chukudus, the wooden
bikes used in the Congo to transport goods.
"Life was going from bad to worse under M23,"
said Amos Kambale, a teacher in Rutshuru. "They
would charge taxes on lorries driving through
here. And when they arrived many people were
killed, so we felt very unsafe."
"People are very happy about this defeat," said
Goma lawyer Tresor Kitsongo, "but the problem
has not been solved. We need real peace, but if
the government doesn't want to develop the
country there will be another rebellion."

.how can you call a country that is spending over N1trillion{approx:$7billion} + a $1billion supplementary in 2014,is has a weak and underequipped military?

First, you are buying sub-par equipment.

Second, your arsenal is pathetic, let me list some examples:

1. ALL of your heavy armor is obsolete (T54/55, AMX, Vickers)
2. Your light tanks are also, obsolete
4. You operate 21 seperate models APC's and IFV's and Scout vehicals - most are obsolete or aging, this mean that they are of limited use and are a logistical nightmare
5. ALL of your ATGM's are obsolete
6. Your artillery is a mess
7. You air defence is completely obsolete and based on a hodgepodge of 4 seperate gun systems and 4 obsolete missile systems

Your arsenal is a mess, is well beyond block obsolescence

It shows that you have no single direct doctrine, it shows that your logistics in operations will be a mess and rumor has it most of them arent operational

,how can a nation that is giving advanced training to its troops in advanced military nations of the world,a weak nation?

The fact that you need to send your troops for training shows you are weak.

if the current military budget were to continue over the span of the next 10 years, then the NAmF is going to be the most powerful military of the continent

And your country and economy will be in the tubes as you are spending 2/3s your budget on your military

f the whole ECOWAS countries were ally together to fight nigeria,we will simply make quick work of them, they know that, thats why the ghanaian military chief said "an unstable nigeria,is an unstable west africa,it also spells doom for africa.that can never be allowed"

Boko haram alone has been whipping you so no, you wouldent

And he is talking about the destabilizing effect of a civil war in a country with a population of 150 million

can the same be said of SADAC?,tanzania alone will pose more than enough threat to SA

The tanzanian military would be target practice for us.

SA.south africa can never lead the black race, its a puppet nation!

The irony of this sentence

South Africa too has thousands of old outdated 1980s generation weapons and 1950s aircraft, we have posted that many times here and tired of repeating them.

Nigeria has the biggest and most modern artillery weapons in sub-saharan Africa, Bofors FH-77 and Palmaria SPHA

Nigeria has the biggest, most powerful, most sophisticated ISTAR aircraft force is Africa, even Egypt is behind us by far.

Nigeria has battalions of amphibious armoured fighting vehicles, while South African army is equipped for dry land warfare only.

Nigerian army air defence missiles have ceiling/altitude of 5km while South African army air defence missile ceiling/altitude is only 1km

Nigeria is the only country from Cape Town to Cairo that has military use spy satellites to watch a whole country from space and locate all their heavy weapons from thousands of kilometers away with pin point accuracy of lacation.

Nigeria has the most experienced army in Africa as at today 2014.

I think you are very lazy to do simple research.

Also, the current aircraft arsenal of Nigerian air force is NOT published, 4th Genration and ultra-modern jet fighters were delivered last month and the Air force chief said they will be shown to public later.

It has been an absolute pleasure obliterating your post

It's your pleasure telling open lies at random.

The archives of this forum proves you wrong.

Egypt had their last ISTAR upgrade around 2008, Nigeria upgraded 2013.

Egypt has no aircraft to match Nigerian Beechcraft and Surveyor aircraft.

NAF beats the whole of Africa in ISTAR, Egypt is under our spy satellite network like a TV, we watch them, but they cannot see us.

Nigeria has both version A and version B of Bofors, we got them in batches, some 1980s some year 2000s, they are the worlds best artillery systems, Swedish arty is world leader.

SANDF has ONLY Starstreak I version and ceiling is max 1km, one of the worst in Africa.

SANDF has no CRAM capability and no Badger IFV in service today as in your posted photo, or else Nigeria too has T-84 Oplot tanks, get it ?

Your Submarines and data-link has not helped you arrest one single pirate after 2 years of patrolling the oceans grin
