cjrane:

I usually don't read this thread because i think it is meaningless. Nigeria and South Africa will never go into an armed conflict so that all the noise in this thread can not be tested. So i see it as pure speculative waste of time.

But i wish to point out a fallacy in your statement "Or Angola where we embarsed the cuban army". This statement is completely false.
The Cubans disgraced SADF and did win the Angolan conflict with MPLA remaining in power and Jonas Savimbi even killed in action.Perhaps you were too young to know the truth or you believed the propaganda they fed you in South Africa.

Indeed, the dismantling of apartheid and release of Dr. Nelson Mandela were part of Cuban demands before they would withdraw their forces and stop killing the then SADF.Indeed if it were not for fear of provoking a major US military intervention, the Cubans had every means of crossing the border into South Africa and sacking the racist regime in Pretoria. The SADF was not any obstacle at all. Have you asked yourself why Cuba (Fidel Castro) was about the first country and world leader that Dr. Mandela visited immediately he was released?

Your statement is not only incorrect but reflect the level of your misinformation about the border war. Buy yourself the book titled " The South African Border war" or google the wikipedia.

PUBLIC RECORDS AND EVIDENCE AVAILABLE TO THE WHOLE WORLD PROVES THAT CUBA DEFEATED SOUTH AFRICAN MILITARY NEAR THEIR HOME LAND ON AFRICAN SOIL.

(1) south african ex-president Thabo Mbeki declares the truth confirming that cuba defeated south african military on african home soil

QUOTE : "As we conversed with our hosts, we recollected the period in our region which ended just over a decade ago, which saw the involvement of

apartheid South Africa in a massive and concerted effort to impose its will on the region and thus extend the life of the apartheid crime against humanity.

Cuba's contribution to the defeat of that campaign of aggression and destabilisation against independent Africa was, of course, particularly exemplified by

its decisive involvement in the military struggle to defeat the apartheid forces that had invaded Angola soon after that country's independence from

Portugal.

The Cuban forces were to stay in Angola for over a decade. That stay ended only when, after their defeat at Cuito Cuanavale, the apartheid invaders

(south african military) understood that they would never be able to realise their objectives and that the Angolan people should have the freedom to determine their future
. With

that realisation came the understanding in Pretoria that it could not dictate to the independent African states through the use of force. Neither could it

hold back the tide leading to the independence of Namibia and the liberation of South Africa."

(2) wikipedia south african border war declares that cuba defeated south african military on african soil

QUOTE : " Cuba considerably reinforced its troops in Angola and came to the defence of the besieged FAPLA; the South African advance was stopped at

the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, the largest battle in Africa since World War II, in which both sides have claimed victory. The bulk of the Cuban forces

advanced towards Namibia further to the west, threatening to cut off the SADF-Forces (south african military) remaining at Cuito.
On 27 June 1988, Cuban MiG-23 fighters

bombed the Calueque hydro-electric complex at 16.7367°S 14.9669°E, disabling it and killing 12 SADF soldiers. For some analysts the stalemate at

Cuito and the death toll and vulnerability to Cuban MiGs was viewed with apprehension (fear) by the SADF (south african military )and may have had some bearing on the fact that a

peace accord was agreed soon afterwards."

I think nigerian military is the best in africa coz we got the number and also the equipment and also u can't compare sA with nigeria coz dey gat no war experience at all dey have nat fought any war at all yet dey compare SA to nigerian, that just the first point if nigeria decides to close all MTN & DSTV offices in SA will suffer huge economic loss coz nigeria is there largest market in africa so if south africa decides 2 pick a fight wit nigerian they will lose in the long run and remember nigeria is ECOMOG and ECOMOG is nigeria

Dear Mchudi: it is evident that your knowledge about military is very limited. You have asserted that SA does not have a history of engaging in war. In actual facts SA has a vast historical experience in war as compared to Nigeria. SA played an increasing role in both the 1st and 2nd world war. Notwithstanding, the fact that the longest war fought on African soil, that is the border war. Prior the border war SA waged war against the Germans in Namibia formerly known as South West Africa and overpowered them to seize Namibia to their power. Namibia remained the colony of SA for many years until SWAPO (political party in SWA/Namibia) called for independence from SA with the help of Angola and Cuba. That conflict marked the beginning of 23 year long war fought in the African Soil which was dubbed South African border war.

There are currently no sources which will ever conclude as to who won the battle between SA, Angola and Cuba. Aside Egypt, there was no any other country in Africa that could match or ever challenge SA in the battlefield. In the past South Africa used to enjoy the status of being called the Superpowers of Africa.

You wish it could have been like that, but its untrue. Cubans never defeated South Africa. There were more Cubans who died in the border war than South Africans. There were more than 55000 Cubans who were deployed to Angola to fight against 3000 South African soldiers. Cubans failed to defeat 3000 South Africans to emancipate Namibia from SA colonisation. Apartheid South Africa volutarily liberated Namibia from colonisation in 1990 after the release of Nelson Mandela.

Here are facts;

If you claim that SA lost to Cuba, then why did it take them 23 years to defeat SA?
Until 1990 Namibia remained the colony of SA and there was no at any stage where Cuba managed to demolish SADF military installations as compared to how SA demolished Angola.

Truly you misunderstood Mbeki's comments towards Cubans efforts of having discouraged SA attempts to dominate the entire region, probably SADC. Mbeki did not specifically asserted that Cuba defeated South Africa. Don't make your own conclusions because you will surely fail comprehension tests. The Cubans defeated or in essence discouraged Apartheid SA efforts to colonise the whole region and thus does not translate to South Africa losing to Cuba. South Africa single handily fought against two countries and yet managed to contain them right in their home soil. Get yourself the book titled "South African border war" to learn more about all the operations of the SA recce team in Angola and how splendid the SA special forces were in executing task of crushing down Cuban planes and their failed attempt in demolitions to cut down oil in Angola

In my previous posts I called u a fool and a wanna be and by ur posts I can see ur foolishness haven't stopped.

Tell me was that war a fullscale conventional military conflict no.

Stop writting sh*t here boy.

This topic is abt training standards and proven hardware and ur Rantings has totally derayled the thread u talk nonsense abt ur nations capabilities while the world knows the truth.

I've been in conflict zones on this continent and certainly know a lot more abt ur standards and dissiplinary issues which is well documented in UN reports also even ur generals has raised there concern abt ur soldiers behaviour where they are deployed.

Ur nation may have a credibel military by african standards but is years behind interms of domestic hardware manufacturing and indigenius technological developement of weaponsystems and that remains a fact. I the Russians can ask us to upgrade there MI-28 and to provide maintaince support for african militaries using the systems when will nigeria even catch up.

Let's stick to facts not childish bullsh*t.

Mchudi- I will advise you to go and see a psychiatrist for a check-up. I am not sure if Nigeria has a quality services for your treatment. Unfortunately it's only in South Africa and abroad where you can be offered the best of such therapy. Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Iolo(m): 9:23pm On Jan 09, 2013
Military strength is better measured in terms of amount spent in the military year to year than in number of personnel. For example North Korea has a military of 1.5m plus combatants and they are still no match for the United States.

Nigeria spent $1.7bn on its military giving it the 58th position just behind Sudan. The US occupies the No 1 position with $700bn spent.

In terms of monies spent it seems we are lacking behind a number of African countries including Algeria, Egypt, SA, and Angola.

Does this mean we'd be defeated in a war with the African countries ahead of us? I don't think so.

Here's the reference list for anyone who's interested.
